Looking for a pair of $500 speakers for a spare room, don't mind active or passive as i've got a few old amps if needed. Anyone know what i should get? Looking at kef q100s?

I had good luck with the Aktimate Mini years ago, they are a little directional and you want them a few inches away from the wall, but sounds good and easily fills a small room with loud sound. Didn't even feel the need for a sub, though it would have helped.
I would look at the Andrew Jones designed ELAC speakers. The bookshelf Debut 2.0 are cheap (under $500) and sound as good as $1500+ to my ears.
