How Have You Been Disappointed in 2018? Happy Festivus OzBargainers!

How have you been disappointed in 2018?

Have you missed out on any great deals, not received what you expected or received poor service from a supplier?

Perhaps you have a grievance with another OzBargainer, moderator, colleague, neighbour, friend, partner or relative. Or perhaps you're generally annoyed with people, politicians, motorists or the world. If you've got problems, I want to hear about them!

Feel free to also share reports, pictures or videos of any feats of strength you may have accomplished.

    • Second this my god they've murdered them.

    • Did they add CC's?

I have a problem with people who use a leaf blower early on Sunday morning. If it's not blowing away, pick it up, or use a f@#king rake!

      SERENITY NOW!!!

Disappointed that Buzztelco and Mungi went broke.
Disappointed that NBN for smaller retailers going broke.
    Disappointing NBN for 2018

    • +1

NBN changed my life (for the best surprisingly)
Went from 7mbps to 96mbps and have never been so productive. It's a shame it's not everybody's experience 😔
At least we still have Aussie Broadband!

    • +1

At least there are more options now than when I got FTTP in 2013. Telstra or nothing.

    • I was a loyal Mungi customer! They had the best customer service. Guttered they went under

Some really dumb users and comments made it into ozbargain this year.. many times I was just shaking my head or wondering why a comment was even posted at all.

Thankfully mods and reporters have been on the ball this year.

Really great moderation this year (against myself included which is good because it means the moderation is universal and doesn't discriminate against any specific users).

    • How have you been lately? Any plans for the holidays?

      • +1

I am ok thanks for asking though life is never ending thanks again for asking Scrooge McDuck my man.

Holidays will just be with the family then back home to get in some sleeping or gaming haha whichever I need most or first.

How about yourself got any plans for the holidays?

        • So what's new? Haha. :P

What are you playing at the moment?

I won a Switch but don't have any games yet. Brawlhalla if F2P and pretty fun though. It's quite cathartic to smash a random dueller into the abyss!

I don't celebrate Christmas so the public holidays are a slight inconvenience for me. I'm planning to GTL (Gym, Tan, Laundry).

          • @Scrooge McDuck: Well I finally got fallout 3 for pc and have been smashing battlefield v every night nearly.

Joined some hardcore gaming group on discord that do huge battlefield games like twenty man plus discord squads pretty fun when we get it right otherwise a bloodbath not in our favour.

Congrats on the switch oh man I hear there are some great games on that. I won some elgato hd capture card worth like 170 euros or something so will try to sell that and maybe put it towards my computer or something no clue yet.

Ah fair enough.. Yeah usual family thing for xmas then a few bdays and things then back to the usual.

Interesting do you do the spray tan or the light thing?

Probably just still figuring out how to fix this house so many issues with it but other than normal cleanup and making sure everything is running and working just the usual keeping things where they should be.

I got a new mop that can rinse out the water.. no idea how long I have been needing that and also learnt some simple plumbing tricks like replacing taps and shower heads etc among other things life is amazing you never know what might happen next!

            • @AlienC: Years ago I played, I think, about 20 hours of Fallout 3 before asking myself, *When do I get the armour on the box art!?* I checked a guide and it turns out I was only ~10 % of the way through the main campaign, so I put that down. I have an obsessive personality so I literally performed a left-handed search of EVERY corridor, killed every hostile, hoarded every item and scrounged every bottlecap. That was not fun, more like work. Plus I'm a big kiter so I abused the hell out of V.A.T.S.. I thoroughly enjoyed the artwork, atmosphere and narrative though! If I ever have time, I'll pick it up again, suppress my natural tendencies and run and gun it.

I'm mainly into survival horror, combined arms and competitive games. So DayZ Mod was the perfect trifecta for me. I haven't made much time for gaming for quite a few years though. It doesn't align with my goals at the moment.

I go to the beach to tan. Sun, surf, sand, beer, breeze, babes.

Indeed life is amazing, so is what you can learn on YouTube!

              • @Scrooge McDuck: Sounds like a great life and plan for the holidays.. yeah the beach is wonderful when it is not scorching hot.

Yeah Fallout is one of those games that just pulls out the obsessive compulsive check everything disorder out of me like many rpg games.

It has probably aged a bit now but it is still quite a classic and I finally managed to grab it for under $3 albeit not the game of the year edition so probably still a fail.

Ah well I wonder what the future will hold for me.

DayZ Mod looks fun I might check that out once I get sick of Battlefield and the likes of it.

                • @AlienC: Did you digest my reply to you here?

It's a lot to take in, but I think you can take a lot from it. :)

  • I try to limit my purchases to think i know won't be disappointing

  • Cat got run over and the second car got rear ended and is a write off.

    • You should keep your cat(s) inside. When I drive home (slowly) in the early morn, I spot many streaking across the road in front of the car. Not all motorists are so careful.

      • My little girls aren't allowed out on the road, at all. However, unfortunately, little Miss Houdini has managed to escape from the fortress that is our front alcove on a few occasions. We've had to haul her back in a few times and cars have travelled very close to where she is. Very scary indeed. To all people keep your pets on your property unless they are on a lead or a designated play area. Letting a cat roam is a bad idea.

        • +2

Whenever I spot one, I slow right down with my high beams on and give a running commentary, in babytalk, of just how naughty they are, until they've quick-walked all the way back home. They can't hear me, of course, but it soothes my concern.

The same goes for all the feral bunnies that live in my street. One was hanging out on the road last night, "There's no grass there bro. Hop away!" The silly duffer was watched by several kangaroos who are much more sensible. They typically stand upright and lock eyes on you, and thump away back to the bushes if you encroach on their tolerance zone.

          • @Scrooge McDuck: We do the same with the kitties, making sure we slow to a crawl until they disappear under a fence.

A number of years ago we were staying at one of the wineries and decided to go for a late afternoon walk; to whet the appetite for dinner. Now when you read about people lost in the bush you think "what an idiot, how did they get in that position". Well we found out a) You don't tell people that you are heading out, b) you don't have any GPS system on you, c) your phone has no signal, d) you don't know where you are going and e) you set out late in the afternoon. We managed to find out way to the nearest town, which was 2 km from the winery, and started to walk back the road to the winery - it was pitch black. On either side we could hear the Kangaroos hopping around us, and grunting, and it was truly terrifying - we figured they could make a mess of us if they wanted to.

  • I would have to say not being paid for two months before Christmas is a big disappointment. I mean sure the business has been struggling but my boss should let me go. Ive only kept on because its hard to find non retail jobs in the area :\

I hope you've been documenting everything. If not, start ASAP!

Excepting my marriage/relationship (we got married in January officially, though we already considered ourselves married, we just didn't feel right doing it until Australia finally had marriage equality) 2018 has been nothing but a shitshow. It feels like all I've been doing is planning for 2019 and waiting for this year to be over.

The drivers get worse, the commentors on the internet get dumber, our own government is trying to compete against america's for stupidity, the popular music gets even worse even though that shouldn't be possible, fewer good films are released, trumptard didn't get impeached yet, the list goes on.. The only arguably good thing is that there's so much great TV now that there's actually too much.

    • Interesting phrasing there. If 'Excepting' is misread as a typo of the more common 'Accepting', your reported attitude to marriage would reverse.

I have to admit that that's how I interpreted it at first, probably due to my own attitude towards marriage.

      • Mine probably aligns with yours. 38 years living in grubby sin and counting. Spent the wedding money on a house deposit - best decision we ever made.

    • If you can forget just how horrible much of the current political situation is - this has been a bumper year for popcorn munching whilst watching Governments imploding. Trumplethinskin - the rolled gold standard on how not to be President, the LNP can't get any traction because they are sliding on their own excrement and the Tories keep whining to the EU about Brexit - like it was the EUs idea? The hilarious point is that the issues they are all experiencing are, largely, of their own making. 2019 does promise to be an interesting year.

  • Prague. Pretty, but boring city

  • No! i live in the best country in the world! and the best state…QLD…north that is.

I couldnt read most of this post because it would make me feel sad and i'd have to say this post. Scrooge are you hiding something?

    • I have an obsessive fixation on developing my musculature to compensate for the fact that I feel like a 5 year old on the inside. Other than that, no. Why do you ask?

      • I like your honesty please continue to entertain my inner child also.

People now saying "happy holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas". 2018 can die already.

    • Do you realise that most people are not Christian?

Happy Hanukkah, have an easy Ramadan fast and may The Force be with you.

      • Lets put this in perspective from what you're saying here. So because most people are not christian, we can disregard the holiday and call it whatever we want.
So why bother calling the others Hanukkah and Ramadan on their set days. Please tell me what you call those instead. Do you realise what you are saying?

        • +1

You're missing the point. The 25th of December is a public holiday for everyone in Australia. As are the 26th of December and the 1st of January.

But most people don't celebrate Christmas as a religious event. So wishing someone "Happy Holidays" simply expresses hope that they enjoy their holidays, without making any probably incorrect assumptions about their religious practices.

          • @Scrooge McDuck: Merry Christmas Scrooge!

          • @Scrooge McDuck: Our local Turkish supermarket is open today. The nice lady behind the counter has a headscarf so, presumably not Christian. So, Merry Christmas, is not appropriate nor is happy holidays, as she is working. Hello and Thank-you seemed to be the best options. I think most people aren’t hung up on the religious elements of the holidays but, I think, we all should learn a few holidays that aren’t Christian - particularly if there is a chance of a good feed to go with it.

              @try2bhelpful:

Nor is "Happy Penalty Rates" if it's a family business.

          • @Scrooge McDuck: I thought merry Christmas is nothing religious, just a culture.
Like Santa Claus, nothing religious about him.

People do celebrate each other cultural holiday, I enjoy doughnuts on Hanukkah, sweet treats on Divalih, and break fast with muslim on ramadhan together, eat pork on chinese new year. Doesn't make me muslim or Christian or jew or hindu or Buddhist. They would say to me happy Divalih or Hanukkah or merry Christmas hohoho.

Although the latter is more often in this country. In another country the other is more often. Which is why, I share the disappointment of the puffdragon, I would prefer Australia has one distinguishable culture than just a Holiday.

            • @[Deactivated]: Where are you from? What do you have against Australia from having Christmas? You seem so open to other countries and cultures to celebrate theirs, but Australia, no.
Australia does have a culture and is an ethnicity unto itself. Somehow in 2018 everyone has forgotten that and the history including yourself. If I wanted to celebrate divalih I'd go to India.

            • @[Deactivated]: I'd be more okay with Christmas as a celebration of consumerism and making kids behave through the use of fictional all seeing eyes if it didn't have the name of a god in it. Hence, something neutral like happy holidays, happy festivus, or happy winter solstice is just better for everyone

    • What annoyed me about 2018…the increased ability for people to be annoyed about and complain about the most trivial of things….

      Case in point.

  • Disappointed by what ebay plus offers.

  • Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal.

    • Cleanliness is next to Duckliness.

  • SD cards cancelled from Amazon.

    • Please make a new Harold and Kumar flick. Your last one was a bit of a disappointment

  • amex offers
