Did Drones in National Parks Policy Change?

I am camping over the holidays. From when I got my drone earlier this year I remember finding that you need a park managers consent to fly drones in national parks.

From what I heard it was hard to contact these managers, harder to get a response, and harder still to get an approval.

Fast forward to now and I found

And in particular I found this fact sheet

It sets out rules and then at the last point suggests you only need a park managers consent if it's formally requested at the entrance OR you intend to go outside the rules/operate commercially.

Is this a change, can we now fly drones sensibly and not get in trouble for it?

  • Everything you need to know is on the link & leaflet you've posted.

Follow everything mentioned in the leaflet & you'll be fine. I suggest printing & keeping a copy of the leaflet with you, in case you come across some dingbat enforcer trying to tell you otherwise.

  • Keep you distance, try not to crash and you'll be fine.

  • Reading those you still need permission from the park manager (ie the covering para in the brochure above point 1).

Agree it is a real pain as they just say no straight away when you finally get onto them. About all you can do is take off outside of the park.

  • Keep clear of the airport.
