Recommendations for front loader washer dryer combo

Hi OzB community
Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good deal on a combo washer and dryer?
If you own one, is there anything I should be worried about? Keen to glean from your positive or negative experiences.

  • I can't recommend a deal, but I have the 9kg/5kg LG and have been very happy.

    • If you don't mind me asking, how long does it take to do a wash/dry with this?

      • Depends on the cycle you choose.

    • Are you happy with the drying result, is it as good as a dedicated dryer?

    • Correlation does not mean causation.

The drying capacity is usually smaller, so you are limited to doing washing at the smaller dryer capacity if you wanted it to run wash + dry cycle in one go. I have a smaller 5.5kg washer dryer over 10 years ago (the washing capacity is 5.5kg, with an even smaller drying capacity). I am disappointed with its drying ability so I bought a dedicated dryer and just use the washer/dryer as a washer only. Things might have gotten better now though.

I am curious how a bigger unit like the 9kg/5kg performs too but if I don't want to gamble it and my next washer will be just a dedicated washer.

AVOID the 2in1 combos at all costs. If you've got the space for a washer and a dryer, get one of each.

I have never seen a combo that does the drying well after a cycle. Even after a long drying cycle, the clothes are still damp-ish.

A separated washer and dryer does much much better and often it works out cheaper than a combo machine.

      This is absolutely correct.
I have used both LG and Bosch 2-in-1 washer/dryer extensively.
Washing is okay, but drying is not as good as a dedicated dryer - but still does the job.

You need to run the drying program more than once if you have a full load and really want all of them to be dry-dry out of the machine.
Otherwise you need to hang your clothes, which beat the purpose of a dryer.

One thing I hate about my Bosch, the noise it makes telling you it has finished the job will drive you nuts if you don't attend to it quickly…

If you have the space, buy 2 separate machines.

Can't this be changed in the settings?

        • Probably can 🤣

  • I have a LG dual washer/dryer. I've used the dryer function maybe a handful of times in 12 years. The dryer just doesn't dry like a regular dryer. Granted that the machine is 12 years old and maybe the technology has changed, but even then I wouldn't buy one again (it was given to me originally). Even using just the dryer function is meh. I found that the door lock clicks in to place and, like any front loader, you have to wait for it to unlock before you can open it. The last time I used the dryer it took ages and it still wasn't drying (school uniform at 7am and the drying was taking too long. I stopped the drying but then had to wait 10 minutes for the door to unlock) A regular dryer allows you to open the door at any time. Get separate units.

  • Bosch ! I've tried a few, these are far and away the best, imo.

  • Thanks everyone!
My wife ended up deciding on a Seiki 7/3.5kg washer dryer combo.
    She loves it!

    • Good luck, washer/dryers are a nightmare. Nightmare to repair, I know from first hand experience.

    • How is it holding up? Any problems? Considering the 10/7kg version. I'm also curious, how much extra drying time does the anti-iron setting require?

      • Just avoid them all together. A dry cycle will generally add on average 2-3 hours to a wash without selecting any other extra features like anti-crease(not anti-iron).
