Hi all,
Would like to take advantage of $12.50 Hoyts tickets via Optus Perks, but do not want to pay their booking fee online.
Does anyone know how it works if I want to buy it at the cinema at the counter? How do I prove to them that I am with Optus?

Just for LUX right? I have never been charged a fee

"Q: Do I need to pay a booking fee?
A: Yes if you book online, there is a booking fee of $1.50 per online transaction for all tickets except HOYTS LUX tickets. There is an online booking fee of $3 per online transaction for HOYTS LUX screenings. There are no additional fees for credit cards. No further concessions or discounts are available with this offer. You have the option of waiving the $1.50 booking fee, including the $3 LUX booking fee, by heading in to a HOYTS cinema and finding the Optus Perks code which will appear on the terminals over and around the ticket Box Office area."
hmmm OK. Charging a fee for online seems crazy. So you can go to the box office and buy perks tickets there??
Nearly all online ticket sales for anything charge you a booking fee as far as I know.
Yes, they do, which I think is absolutely absurd. You go instore and someone else does it for you, who needs to gets paid. All the cinemas with TicketTech need to be slapped for this practice.
"by finding the Optus Perks code which will appear on the terminals over and around the ticket Box Office area"
How does this work in reality?
They never used to charge a booking fee and there were also seperate cheaper kids perks tickets - Optus just keeps going down in my estimation. The booking fee was $1.50 per ticket - adding $6 to the transaction for no reason at all - they don’t do anything
agree - this is shit. Just checked Telstra Thanks - same thing. Collusion.
Just came back from Hoyts Penrith and wanted to see Aquaman. Asked for the Optus perks code as said in the FAQ to waive the booking fee. Was told they don’t have the code. 2 options available: book via Optus and pay booking fee or pay whatever the price they say over the counter.
I provided the Optus FAQ and questioned about the booking fee as well as this so called Optus Perks code. Was only told you need to contact Optus about the code and call Hoyts company about the bookings fees.
Has anyone had some experience with other Hoyts? Glad to hear.
Yea, same issue with them. Also the same issue with AHM 241 date nights as well. Either do it online with the fee, or over the counter no fee. AHM insists we do it online but on occassion, they have done it on site.
Once you have attained the Optus Perks booking fee waiver code in cinema, you will need to access HOYTS through Optus Perks on your mobile. When completing your transaction, you will see the ‘Optus In Cinema Code’ field. Simply enter the code in to the field and press apply. The page will then refresh to included tickets with no booking fee.
AH, yes, I always wondered what it meant. So this code, does it change from cinema to cinema (location to location)? Can we start to compile a list of these codes, crowd sourced? As MELso said, utterly moronic. Can we CALL them on the phone and get the code? Is the code not on display anywhere?
Thought the same thing until i saw it change every 15min
Having to head into the cinema to get a code from Hoyts staff to enable you to book online without a fee is… well… I'm actually struggling to put into words how utterly moronic it is!
The whole point of booking online is to avoid the need to queue at the cinema (which in turn means they need to have more staff on duty to sell tickets and handle cash - or dole out the Optus Perks code now it seems - adding to their costs)…
I can't even use the discount on almost all sessions of Aquaman at my local Hoyts today. I am getting the message - Optus Ticket Allocation Exhausted. Never seen this message before.
I spent 20 mins today at Hoyts trying to find the Optus Perks code. No one knew anything about it. Looked EVERYWHERE. And then… I saw it! On the screen with all the session times - in the top right corner. 6 digit numerical code. It refreshed every 15 mins.
I agree with @MELso that having to go to the movies to book online when there is no one at the counter is stupid. Hoyts also abolished kids ticks. Moronic.
Righto, so that's something like 2FA.
More like 2FU
Super peeved about the new fees. Took the fam to see Wreck It Ralph and ended up purchasing regular tickets at the cinema because it was cheaper!
TLDR:
Look for a 6 digit numerical code on the screen with all the session times, in the top right corner. It refreshes every 15 mins.
- Credit to singingwolfJust used Optus Perks to purchase tickets for a movie tomorrow at Melbourne Central on XTreme Screen. Each costed $16.50 (bought 2) with $3 booking fee. $36.00 total.
such bs, optus perks… more like optus punch in mouth…
My friends and I spent 20 minutes trying to work out how to use Optus Perks code in store only to be met by the "Optus Ticket Allocation Exhausted" message. So much hassle for something that only work sometime. I cannot wait for Village to roll out recliners at their cinemas.
