Where to Buy Compressed Air Cheaply?

Need to clean a laptop so I can donate it to Comupterbank.

Officeworks is selling air for $10 a can. Did some googling and someone said you can get them at dollar stores for like $2. I've been to a couple, and no one has them. Am I going to the wrong dollar stores? (I'm located in the inner western suburbs of Melb)

Please don't recommend a $150 electric duster as an alternative. I am not going to use it enough times to justify the price.

Just fill a car spare tyre with 50psi FOR FREE at local servo, then (back home) attach a bicycle pump flexible hose fitting, and blast away.

Do the above if you have a spare tyre or get a portable air compressor, could be battery-operated or wall outlet version.
Why do you need to clean your laptop if you're going to donate it anyway. Donate the extra money instead.

Website says they require the computers to be in a clean and neat condition before they can accept the donation.

      • Dust shouldn't be an issue. Only if like there's lots of coffee spills or hardened chocolate or something.

        • Meh, it's a nice thing to do. Staff might not be knowledgeable on computers and not end up cleaning it.

If the laptop's old enough for an Ozbargainer to donate, it's probably choking.

  • Just wash it like Andy Dwyer pfft

Use a bicycle pump with a long hose and then make your spouse/children/slaves manually pump it while you direct the nozzle at whatever PC components you want to clean.

  • Insert a bung and polish off those cans of baked beans you got cheap. Shouldn't take too long for pressure to build up.

  • Why do you need clean the PC before giving it away?

      • Computerbank wants free PCs, but can't be bothered to condition them. It would be easier to bin the ewaste.

Maybe. I wanted to donate it because I was sure I wouldn't be able to sell it. It's 4 years old and functions well, but there's a large scratch on the touchpad and a dent on the lid where a snowglobe fell on it. No one would buy that, and I don't know how to replace parts. Just seems like a shame to throw it away.

      • All they need is a used 2HP air compressor which cost as little as $50.
