I have one of these bought last year as far as a starter home theatre kit goes its great and 319 is a great price

    • I'm the same, bought it as a starter surround sound kit a few months ago and would definitely recommend it as a great entry level system, especially for this price. Speakers and nice and compact and the difference is a lot better than standard TV speakers. It also sync's well with all the inputs and TV.

  • As a guy who doesn't know much about Home audio, can some explain how you would set these up and position around the room.

my 2 cents. These are consumer brands rather than specialised audio setup, so there shouldn't be much complexity in setting them up. Get the center channel placed infront of the TV/screen , the front left & right channel satellites on either side of the TV, and the surround behind where you would sit. If you have the option to wall mount the satellites please go for it.
The sub can be placed anywhere, but given it is not a wireless sub, you will end up putting it close to the receiver anyway.

p.s: please ignore me if you already knew this and I had completely misunderstood your question.

      • Perfect! Thanks for the answer. Really appreciate it

5.1 is 2x front, 2 x back one centre (under the TV) and .1 is the sub, the receivers sometimes have a setup mode that tests the volume balance etc but Im not sure if this has it as its pretty cheap.

You need to run Audio cable from the receiver to each of the speakers, it is a fair bit of effort if you don't want to see cables, if you can get them under carpet or you put the cables in the ceiling or walls but that is a problem if renting or not handy.

Some people just go for The Sound Bars these days as they reflect sound in different directions around the room giving best effort surround sound.

Lots of the wireless speaker solutions but they all cost a fair bit like sonos etc..

      • Thanks bud, that was my main thought about running speaker cable

  • haha, they are really small speakers when you see them like here https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/home_theatre_…

I have this kit. I can't actually comment on the speakers, because I've never actually used them! I'm running big front floor standing speakers, and those Polk speakers from Amazon as the rears. I bought this kit as it seemed to be the cheapest way to buy a 4K HDR receiver (this pack includes the HTR-2071 receiver). It doesn't support Dolby Atmos or bluebooth, but other than that it's a really good entry level home theatre system.

And you can easily replace all the speakers over time (that's what I did).

EDIT: Does this feature Atmos? The photo of the receiver says Dolby ATMOS! None of the specs I've seen say it has it. I'm confused!

EDIT 2: No Dolby Atmos. The pic lied! Here's a review of the pack.

    • How are the polks by the way?

      • +1

Pretty good but I honestly don't think using them as rear surround speakers is really putting them to good use. They're bigger and beefier than I was expecting (and 3kg each!).

        • Interesting, makes the cheap shipping even more of a bargain.

Depends what you watch I suspect. Home
and away? Not so important. Movie buff? Much more so.

I find good quality rears important for games too. For times when characters are talking from any point around you while you control the camera.

This would shit on any soundbar at a similar price.

  • I tried the promo code PTGGS20 at checkout and it says:

This code can't be applied to your order

    not sure why… any suggestions?

Make sure that you are actually registered on ebay australia , chat with ebay and they can correct it in minutes

      • thanks a lot

    • Sometimes the stores don't actually have the stock they say they do. I've previously had to pick another store to pick it up from, and it worked.

  • This one or Yamaha ATS 207? They are at same price in TGG

  • Had one of these for about 12 months as a complete set. Sold the amp and upgraded it but kept the speakers as they were wife friendly(small and out of the way). Audio wise they are weak with sub on. Looking to get rid of mine soon as wife has realised we need better sound. They do fine for a basic 5.1 setup. But very tiney sounding of sub is off.

wives love to generate sound, i doubt she will want to compete with quality speakers

  • I currently run the Logitech Z623 2.1 speaker set with my TV. In regards to the comments on the sub does anyone know if i can connect the SUB from the Z623 system to this amp?
