Need Help: Laptop Audio Jack Port Not Working after Installing The Drivers for Audio

Hi

I have strange problem to my laptop.

I bought creative speaker Z213 on last deal and noticed one of the speaker is not working when connected to PC but working fine when a mobile is connected to the speaker.

So to fix the problem i did meddle with the drivers, un-insatlled the old drivers (Intel Generic Audio drivers for MB) and installed the drivers (realtek audio). This might created a conflict and messed the laptop. Now the audio jack is not working but can hear sound from inbuilt laptop speakers. Can't hear sound when headphone or speakers are connected. Noticed they are connected by producing a noise, but can't hear voice or music.

Laptop is MSI GE620dx and windows 8.1 OS.

I tried tweak audio setting, uninstalling driver, SFC check, DISM and all are fine. This didn't solve the problem.

I want to opt for restore point as last resort. Not sure this is the only solution? Do I need to delete the drivers manually and re-install again or should I need to delete the registry part?

Any other possible solutions?

  • Now the audio jack is not working but can hear sound from inbuilt laptop speakers.

Seems like an audio settings issue. Have you selected the correct Output device in Audio Settings, and/or checked "play audio through audio jack of device detected" (or something like that)?

    • I can only see the Speakers as the output device. I don't remember previously it has the option of the Audio Jack option. I don't see Audio jack to select it :(

  • +1

Why haven't you upgraded to Windows 10?

  • Not in any hierarchical order - But an option/guide

1 - Try Windows update and see if a newer driver is detected. If so install it
2 - Check in Device Manager and see if there are driver issues noted (Normally an Exclamation mark/driver issue) or it states the name of the Audio Driver/Realtek
3 - Go to MSI website and obtain drivers (as I assume you already have)
4 - Restart PC and insert the speaker 3.5 mm jack into the PC
5 - Go to open sound settings, normally on RHS task bar and see if there are any issues.
6 - Open Realtek software and see if you can adjust settings.

  • From memory, go to Settings then Sounds. Somewhere you should be able to find checkboxes for inbuilt, and your new external, speakers. Then restart. Good luck
