I just got this email from Borders (http://rgr-static1.tangentlabs.co.uk/email/20110407_au/bau-b…), and it turns out they're closing down a large number of stores on top of the A&R stores that have already closed. It's such a sad day for book stores… there definitely aren't enough of them left around, even if they are overpriced. Buying books online is just not the same :(
Quite a few Borders stores are closing down

Who is going to sell books to a company under administration?
Well it is a problem. BUT I guess it won't be a going concern until it is stocked much better, if even then, unless Westfield or someone subsidises 'em.
I am going to miss my local Borders store. The cheapest dvd's and books I have bought in Australia when used with their discount vouchers. Remember free Penguin books anyone? Nostalgia.
yes, I got six, summer days :)
…. but, don't despair Cheap Steve, one day these will be "the good old days": free scarves, donuts, cokes, ebooks, more scarves … ;)
Yes, Melbourne Storm rugby league club will be scratching their heads over this sudden influx of Broncos supporters in Victoria. Go Ozbargain!
well there are supposedly 9 profitable border stores that the administrators are planning to sell to a new buyer, maybe they will find a new buyer willing to expand into a more profitable way
but the sad thing that ive found when ive talked to friends/co workers about borders is all too many are willing to go to a border store just to read for free and have little intention on making a purchase at all
… yes, sadly, because they charge too much. Even the administrators may not have learnt promising 20-40% off sales at the stores which are closing. They'll end up of course with the 50% offs.
They need to restock the ones they are keeping open. I find the one at Melbourne Central hardly worth going to in recent weeks … now they increasingly have multiple copies of a single title (usually unappealing), on a shelf that would previously have had 2-3 dozen different titles.
