Was reading an old Lonely planet book for India (80's-90's?). Was reading about the Indian "badlands" as I was interested in the area. I read something about an old sushi restaurant. The description is something like: "Out of the Indian badlands appears a Japanese building, at odds with it's surrounding in the desert." Not sure if it said something about the gangsters in that area or similar. Apparently, it seems to be a historic building with old Japanese woods and decor that has been there for a long time. I think that it was in Uttar Pradesh, but am not sure. I am re reading the oldest lonely planet we have again, but unsure if it is the right one.

It is an anomaly.
Indian here.
Badlands/Dacoits is mostly Chambal area in Madhya Pradesh. The portion of Uttar Pradesh that touches Madhya Pradesh also has badlands.
Desert would be Rajastan or North Gujarat.

I think it's Madhya Pradesh. That should help in finding it.
Having visited India a bunch of times, i can safely say i would never eat sushi from there…
Cool story. Thanks for sharing.
