Was thinking of buying an s9 but not sure whether it would be best to wait for a deal around boxing day or if i should even wait for the s10 to come out.

It's only going to be slightly bigger and it doesn't really mean it will be better. Sometimes it's about the user and their experience.
Well the S10 leaks are promising. I would still suggest to wait till S10 comes out and then S9 price may go further down. And he can also decide if he wants S9 or S10
Normally the next iteration of electronics have slight improvements over the predecessor.
Therefore I would recommend to buy the S9 for a heavily discounted price and wait mid next year when the S10 gets released.It is depending if you are after new or second hand.
I have seen the S9 second hand going on Gumtree for around $650 on a good day.
But that is if you are comfortable of purchasing second hand.
There are also Mobile phone resellers like Phonebot etc …. they sell these for pretty cheap and offer a year warranty.I have purchased a Note 8 outright for $650 off Gumtree last week (with JB receipt - 1 week old; 2 year Samsung Warranty - Aussie stock)
My partner has a Note 9 and there is not much difference (although the Note 9 is better, but not a massive difference - as you would expect)Cheers
If your looking for a bargain you wont get one on the s10 as soon as it is released.
As others have said phones are pretty evolutionary and not revolutionary in spite of what the manufacturers tell us the next model really is not much better than previous.
Yes the s9 bargains will get better as it gets older.

like the comments…. it indicates me to hold my horses to buy S9+ as price will fall further.
S10 is gonna big and better, if you can afford than go for S10.
