Did a storm damage my phone line/ADSL service?

A recent storm here in North shore Sydney zapped my NetComm NB9W ADSL2+ modem/router. I will buy a replacement today, which is annoying as NBN is meant to be a few months away.

However, in the meantime, I tried to hook up my old NetComm NB1300 Plus 4, which is an ADSL1 modem/router. I thought this should work, albeit slower. But it can't sync the line.

Is this because it's ADSL1? Or does it mean that the phone line itself, or the ADSL part of it, is damaged? I can make and receive landline calls.

Did you register your certificate file with your ISP. Or do you have the correct login account?

Would that matter with ADSL sync? I thought I'd get that even without correct credentials, but I'm pretty sure I have the correct ones.

  • Do you have dial tone on the line?

  • Sourced another ADSL2+ modem, got it going, so either ADSL1 modems don't work with ADSL2+ or this one is dodgy.

  • Have you checked the SNR within the router menus?

Had a similar thing happen after a storm and SNR was first port of call.
