    Thanks Chibot!

Perfect timing as my free 1 year license expired today.

Heads up that it wouldn't accept the same email address I used for the free license above but got it to work by adding +1 to my Gmail address.

  • noob here, how do i use this VPN, downloaded —> installed and connected to India. I went to NBA and links me to Au still?

    • using the link that was sent to your email, then it will ask you create a password. Download the app then use email & password login. change your location to Australia and ta da, you are connected to oz now

      • He is saying he connected to an INDIAN vpn but still directs him to the AUSTRALIAN nba page. hence not working as he wants to appear like he is browsing from INDIA

  • Uh is this gonna cancel by itself? I know I didn't fill in any payment details but I installed it through play store which does include my payment details..

    • +1

It should, on the website it says it expires 13th of June 2019, so I imagine after that date it will simply stop working.

      • +1

Yeah you're right. Just read it again and they said:
"Non-binding offer No credit card. No questions.
No cancellation required License expires automatically after 1 year."

Is this good for sailing the seven seas?

    • I like that. Very subtle.

If anyone was wondering, this does NOT work with Netflix.

    • Why is that

      • because Netflix detects that a VPN is being used.

    • +3

Thanks. Free Vpn deals seem to be fairly regular, but haven't seen 1 yet that works for US netflix.
Why do people use this for torrents ?
I could understand using it if in USA or other countries where you get sent fines etc for downloading. But as far as I know, this does not happen in Australia does it ?

      • The last time I read about this was when Village Roadshow tried it with people downloading Dallas Buyer's Club but they were unsuccessful. I'm not sure what the current status is, maybe just scare tactics.

        • Did they try it in Australia ? With Dallas buyers club ?
I heard of it happening in USA, but never here yet.

            • @kahn: Thanks for the info. Interesting.
They didn't actually get to stage of sending letters/fines. I'm pretty sure the fines were actually sent out in the US.
I guess people are using VPN now for torrents just in case this ever actually happens and succeeds in court to issue fines.
Could just imagine how much fines they could issue retrospectively (if they legally were allowed to). ie. I used to download about 20 films and 100 tv eps a month. 1 of my mates downloads much much more (he likes to have everything, even if he hasn't got time to watch so much). If they ever succeed (highly unlikely) then they could finw someone thousands for 1 months downloading

              • +6

                @[Deactivated]:

I used to download about 20 films Linux distros and 100 tv eps e-mail attachments a month

                Fixed that for you.

              • +5

@[Deactivated]: The fines/letters were blocked by the judge from ever being sent in Aus. "Speculative invoicing" which is what they do in the US (send you a letter, pay us $x so we won't take you to court) is not allowed here, the demand has to match the cost within reason, as determined by the court. It got too hard/reward wasn't going to justify the cost, so they gave up.

One reason to use a VPN here is because of our draconian metadata retention laws. ISP's, Telcos etc. are required by law to log & retain ALL your data for at least 2 years. And provide it to government agencies at will. It's not a big stretch at all to imagine it being provided to other 5 eyes countries. This kind of thing keeps getting worse with successive governments of both persuasions, most recent evidence is the so called encryption bill that was rammed through parliament.

                • @sav11: 6 eyes by the way. Not official but Singapore is in the gang now.

…and even better they think its on the down. Wonder how much that down turn is actually people moving to vpns and torrent box's. Cant imagine its down to the block much considering its so easy to bypass (just change dns).

Can I use it with Chrome Extension? Doesn't seem to have a login.

        EDIT:

Found, it did ask to create an account. It works with Chrome extension just what I needed.

        Thanks OP.

You can match with other people BEFORE reaching that destination so you will have a bunch of matches already lined up when you get there.

        • Just use FAKE GPS, I've matched with the Eskimos.. however won't be travelling there anytime soon.

  • Installed it today thanks OP.

FYI, the web interface can be changed to English.
But the applications have no option to change the language.

    • +1

Uninstall the applications. After you have changed the web interface, download the installation files again and reinstall.

      • Thanks, that works. However, clicking on the "Licenses" in the Avira app. It shows 'Expiring in one day' even though the Subscriptions & Licenses section in my Avira account still shows '183 days remaining'. Is it the same for you?

        • You're right, I have the same. Guess we'll have to wait till tomorrow and see what happens!

  • My speed test on Netherlands server: 1.6 Mbps Down, 2.4 Mbps Up.

    :(

    USA, Los Angeles: 9.9/4.0
    Canada: 12/2.9
    Japan: 12/5.4
    Hong Kong: 13/4.8

Would love to hear other people's speed tests.

That was an interesting experiment while it lasted but I think I'm removing the condom now.

    • Australia 52Mbps
      Hong Kong 50Mbps

using Optus 4G for the test

lot faster than my current Windscribe ….

      • Hmm. That made me go and do a speed test on my own connection to make sure it isn't me.

I got 70/38 (other people are streaming right now, so not full speed)

    • [no vpn] 44.82/12.79
      Australia 0.25/5.36

I guess that's fast enough to plan the surprise birthday party

  • Anyone from Germany can confirm, if this works for sky go to watch Bundesliga? Vielen Dank :)

  • Is it supposed to only have 500 mbs of "secured data"

    • -1

      Free version comes with 500MB

      • Wait so is this the pro version or the free version? If its the pro version how do i become pro…

        • using the link that was sent to your email, then it will ask you create a password. Download the app then use email & password login

          • +1

@anthony1106: Thanks for your help! Solved the issue and now i've got unlimited

  • Wonder why when VPN is activated and I use speed test it still chooses Australian servers as the closest server. IP has changed though..

  • Not working with Netflix or Hulu. Any tips?

    • +2

If looking for American netflix, go through the different servers. I regularly use this VPN, and I admit sometimes it takes time to find a working server for netflix. Honestly try them all. You will find one. Every couple of weeks it changes, but I always find one or two that work fine

  • +2

Great. Now I can watch ABC iView when overseas. Never found a free VPN with Aust servers that worked before. Just tested and its great. Thanks Op!

  • When I "download" whatever it is they impose on you after you register I open it up and its an anti virus software, not the VPN. Browsing through their links of available products to download again when I select to download the VPN it gives me a F&$King anti virus software. WTH?

  • FYI, in the web interface under subscription it says "Phantom VPN" (not Phantom VPN PRO) and Type is "Trial".

Has anyone installed any other Avira applications other than Phantom VPN?
I already have Opera installed so didn't need that.
Windows 10 already has antivirus so i didn't install their antivirus.
    I'm considering "Privacy Pal" application.

Ok, I got my password and used my email to sign in under the IOS app and it has a button, get pro. Is this 6 month subscription a limited version?.

    Thanks

  • Does anyone else have issues logging into the iOS app?? Tried it on multiple iOS devices and I’m getting an error: “an error has occurred. Please try again later “

  • Does this vpn work in china?

    • China a bit difficult they blocked most VPN.

      • PureVPN works great with Chinese streaming sites.

  • Chibot, the offer ends today. It is said at the top of the link you provided, under the Avira Logo.

  • Been getting this stuff all of a sudden.since I started using Avira…coincidence?

I am a spyware software developer. Your account has been hacked by me in the summer of 2018.

I understand that it is hard to believe, but here is my evidence (I sent you this email from your account).

The hacking was carried out using a hardware vulnerability through which you went online (Cisco router, vulnerability CVE-XXXXXX.

I went around the security system in the router, installed an exploit there. When you went online, my exploit downloaded my malicious code (rootkit) to your device. This is driver software, I constantly updated it, so your antivirus is silent all time.

Since then I have been following you (I can connect to your device via the VNC protocol). That is, I can see absolutely everything that you do, view and download your files and any data to yourself. I also have access to the camera on your device, and I periodically take photos and videos with you.

At the moment, I have harvested a solid dirt… on you… I saved all your email and chats from your messangers. I also saved the entire history of the sites you visit.

I note that it is useless to change the passwords. My malware update passwords from your accounts every times.

I know what you like hard funs (adult sites). Oh, yes .. I'm know your secret life, which you are hiding from everyone. Oh my God, what are your like… I saw THIS … Oh, you dirty naughty person … :)

I took photos and videos of your most passionate funs with adult content, and synchronized them in real time with the image of your camera. Believe it turned out very high quality!

So, to the business! I'm sure you don't want to show these files and visiting history to all your contacts.

Transfer $NNNN to my Bitcoin cryptocurrency wallet:

My system automatically recognizes the translation. As soon as the specified amount is received, all your data will be destroyed from my server, and the rootkit will be automatically removed from your system. Do not worry, I really will delete everything, since I am 'working' with many people who have fallen into your position. You will only have to inform your provider about the vulnerabilities in the router so that other hackers will not use it.

Since opening this letter you have 48 hours. If funds not will be received, after the specified time has elapsed, the disk of your device will be formatted, and from my server will automatically send email and sms to all your contacts with compromising material.

I advise you to remain prudent and not engage in nonsense (all files on my server).

    Good luck!

  • Is there any way to remove Avira app? It seems excessive to me.
