New laptop; cheap light and under $1000 please

I need some timely suggestions from fellow OzBargainers as my laptop's just said sayonara and I'm looking for a replacement before I go away at the end of this month. Would prefer something thin, light and with a good battery life. Doesn't have to have blistering performance or be capable of playing games. Probably looking for something about 13" so that I can carry it easily (not a fan of big laptops or teeny tiny netbooks either) I usually use my laptop on the sofa while I'm watching TV and while I'm out at meetings or conferences.

Has anyone got any better suggestions than a 13" Lenovo Thinkpad Edge (on sale til the end of the week for about 650 bucks):

    over budget but i would go with an asus uj36.

    Nothing better for the money than edge 13", we use them in a corparate enviroment and they work well, very reliable and look nice
