Australian Government Employee Discounts or Partner Programs?

As a new government employee I am looking for corporate partners, which offer government employees discounts?

Similar to Samsung's partner programs.

  • There isn't much, the Microsoft home use program was discontinued a few years ago. There might be a discount on some health insurers but not enough to make it worth choosing them on the basis of the discount alone. This info is for DHS, maybe other departments have something different. Working in government means you trade perks and benefits for job security.

    • Very true, coming from the private sector I can see that public employees do not have as many perks.

      • Other than shorter days, there really isn't any perks that can't get elsewhere

        • Disagree - perhaps depends on your organisation but I think the flexibility (almost impossible to have leave denied and being able to start early and finish early i.e. 2.30pm knock off) is hard to get in private sector. There is no 'convincing' to be done should you need to structure work hours around what works with your private life as long as its reasonable. Yes, pay rises can be small but your job is secure and flexible and in my opinion this is worth a lot.

I heard ATO discounts. May have to pay via giftcards.

  • Federal or State?

  • If you still have a bank transaction account that has monthly fee, go tell them you work for govt and see if gets waived.

You get paid each week no question, 15.4% Super, flexibility and likely access to employee assistance programs. You might get discounted virgin lounge passes at a stretch. No discounts though plenty of time to surf Ozbargain!
