Pricematching from a Previous Sale JB Hi-Fi Had Advertised

So jb recently had a sale on Microsoft surface laptops. Most of them where 15% off.
The one i was interested in was the Microsoft surface 2 128gb i5. Its currently listed at $1498, but about 2 weeks ago it was on sale for $1198, is there any way to price match this? i have a screenshot of the sale. Thanks, any help is appreciated

  • walk in to jb hifi and ask if they'll do it for that price, most of their prices are negotiable.

    • -1

yeah i understand. I just dont want to have to pay anything over the price they had advertised 2 weeks ago.

      • wait and it will be back there again.
        .

      • +2

Then don't and walk away. It's not that hard…

  • +2

    Negotiation is not price matching.

No, they won't do it unless they have the margin

  • +2

The previous promotion may have been microsoft backed.
I think surface is a managed product like apple, miele etc.

  • +1

what did they say when you called jb hifi?

    • +13

Same as most places, ask ozbargain.

      • +3

You mean open a new account and ask on ozbargain

        • And wasting thousands of members time and admin and servers.

          Can just ask jbhifi….

  • Just trying to get some advice.

    • +10

it would help if you say you are asking for a friend

    • +15

And drew a diagram of your issue in MS paint

They usually only price match current advertised prices. They don't legally have to price match, but

    1. You ask and get an approval
    2. You ask and they say no
    3. You don't ask = instant no

Call them? What do you have to lose? We dont know how nice they want to be nor have a say…

  • -4

Walk in, show them the old price, and demand they match it.

If they don't, just look them dead in the eyes and say ……. "ACL".

Watch them fold faster than superman on laundry day.

    • +6

That's not how 'price matching' works….

    • +5

      No…

    • +5

      Terrible advice

Please engage sarcasm meters before entering stupid threads.

      • Unfortunately I think there are people who actually believe they have the right to demand whatever price they want.

Common sense not so common these days.

    • I lolled, clearly kidding.

    • Can you actually do this…? Even if you can't the part:

just look them dead in the eyes and say ……. "ACL".

      is still funny to read….

      • Can you actually do this…?

No. I thought the sarcasm was obvious (particularly because of that line), but apparently not!

        • +1

In these forums, unfortunately there's so much bad advice that sarcasm can so easily come across as truth!

          • @spackbace: Well yeah, some advice that are downvoted to oblivion are true and or not of sarcastic remarks whilst the upvoted ones are usually the funny comments…..and then you have the opposite when people get serious so it's kinda hard to distinguish what's actual sarcasm to what is truth for someone who has no prior knowledge of the subject….

For example I used to think chaining your wallet to yourself seem funny(because people seem to say it in a satire tone) to detract pick pocketers but after being a victim of a few, I have since chained my wallet to myself so if there was any movement from my wallet I would feel it.

  • JB Hifi stores vary going by my recent experience.

I tried to price match the Samsung Note 9 from one JB store vs online retailer mobileciti and they said they couldn't do it.
Then I tried another store and they price matched it, which was $350 off RRP.
I'd rather get Aussie stock with support & 24 month warranty rather than the Grey Import online.

So I would try multiple stores and see if they match.
    It doesn't hurt to try.

    Cheers

      Tried Officeworks?
You can price beat grey imports

      • +1

Yes I definitely tried them first.
But they only had one available and only from an online order 8/512GB Flagship model so i couldn't be bothered to go through the process of price matching/beating and waiting for delivery times… etc

Plus they had only the Black colour and I wanted the Ocean Blue with the Yellow pen.

However I saved $350 off RRP (purchased it for $1450) but I do realise that I could have purchased it cheaper from somewhere else if i was more patient.
I was over waiting and felt like going in the store there and then to buy. Impulse i guess.

        I definitely don't regret it.

        Cheers

If you bought it two weeks ago at $1198, would you be fronting up to JB to pay an additional $300 today given the price is now $1498? If not, why would you expect them to do $1198 today?

    • -4

jesus, just come online to get some advice and have to read this dribble. I just dont feel great about paying 1498 for something when it was on sale for 1198 2 weeks ago. keep sitting behind your keyboard doing sly remarks if thats how you like to live your life. good on ya

    • who bought it 2 weeks ago? If you missed out on that price 2 weeks ago would you be happy paying an extra $300 today?
No, you'd ask for the price that was going 2 weeks ago.

I'd be saying if you can't do it for the lower price, I'll go to whoever has the next sale. Seems reasonable to me.

As Terminal2k has sagely advised, just ask.

Sometimes it might depend on why they were on special, such is that if M$ was doing the discount you’re probably out of luck as doing the same price now would mean that JB loses bucks, whereas if it was JB doing the discount you’ve got more a shot. Obviously the money is going somewhere, so somebody is wearing the discount.

Sometimes it’s worth just asking and being frank. If you’re prepared to buy it there and then, they might not do the same deal but something similar, look I’ve got no idea just a thought.

Thanks everyone, looks like ill just go to a few stores and if they can do something similar id be happy to get it. if not then ill just hope for some boxing day sales

    • Did it work…?

      • It's 15% off again

  • I have found JBHIFI always easy to deal with.
They have price matched a few electronic items over the years, just ask.

  • Unfortunately no. But there should be another deal this coming Christmas/boxing day? Or if not, have a browse around different local stores and price match it to them. From my own experience, they are easy to deal with plus they will give you more discounts when you buy accessories along with it.

  • Grab from the good guys.
Then claim the 120% price difference by showing them Harvey Norman
