Advice on TKL Mechanical Keyboard

Have recently been looking for a TKL mech keyboard.

I'm fresh into the PC space and want a mech keyboard. I've been using a cheap Logitech keyboard for the past bit (ironically still the best keyboard I've used), but am not a fan of the number pad. I game a decent amount and I either have to have it hanging on my mouse pad, or hold my arms in an uncomfortable position to hit that WASD sweetspot.

I'm looking for RGB for the sake of lighting. Needs to be RGB for the sake of build uniformity, if I change the set-up's colour I'm wanting a core part to change as well.

Thanks to good experience with Logitech, and for the sake of not downloading extra software, I was looking at the g pro a fair bit, but seemed expensive as hell. Recently, however, I rediscovered a deal that's still on (link below). I know Gerry's not a favourite around here, but this is a hell of a deal. Comes out to $126~ with shipping.

I've heard many different things when it's come to Logitech's seitches, but coming from a cheap membrane I'm fine with it.

TL;DR - Want a TKL mechanical keyboard, wondering if this is a good deal/idea, and if not what else to go for… though by this point I'm probably more just checking to see whether I've got the right site and to confirm this is a good deal. Not really sure anything could beat it at this price.

Sorry if I've failed formatting yada yada. Thanks for advice.

Since you're in Sydney, maybe check if Mwave, Harvey, or other PC shops have some mech keyboards on display, so you can try out different switch types.
People can give you recommendations but best bet is to feel the switches yourself and go from there .. wait for sale/buy now etc

    • My location isn't accurate unfortunately. Live in a relatively remote location.

Closest to a place to test keyswitches would be eb…and I only know for sure they have some form of razer keyboard.

Buy a switch tester first from somewhere if finding all the keyboards to test is hard for you.

I dislike Logitech's custom switches. Actually picked up one of those at EB on sale and returned it. Now very happy with my Massdrop CTRL. Was quite expensive, but I think it's as much keyboard as I'll ever need for the future.

Kogan used to have a decent TKL board with brown switches for $60-70. You could remove the top shell with Kogan branding and get a decent, unbranded, floating board with genuine cherry switches for a bargain.

this guy has reviewed a few budget options from the AliExpress/Banggood market. this is a good one: https://youtu.be/-35zkfm_L9I

however I want to echo what the others have said and get a switch tester. I spent about 40 hours researching my first mechanical keyboard just reading. then about 5 minutes in a shop feeling all the cherry mainline switches and settling on browns. I bought two ducky ones, for home and for work. a month later, I go to the melbourne meetup and end up feeling 20+ kinds of switches. some other mates at work got different keyboards, one of which was the 100% version of what you linked. compared to the feeling of all the keyboards at the meetup, the logitech one feels like an overpriced membrane.

tldr: don't get the logitech. it is not a bargain. don't settle for it. get a switch tester to help make up your mind.

    • one of which was the 100% version of what you linked

      I don't think a 100% version of that exists.

Logitech G810 would be the 100% version of the G pro Keyboard.

become an eBay plus member & buy a keyboard, if it is not suitable for you, send it back for free
