Advice on Monitor Plz Samsung 4k or LG QHD

I m choosing between this 2 monitors.

LG 31.5 or Samsung 4k. I don't play game alot (dota 2 , overwatch and gw2) are the only games I play atm. Mostly will be used for coding (writing, browsing and Movies). I can get LG monitor with discount HN gift card so the price is about the same. Or should i wait for boxing day ? i have 1070ti card.
Thanks for the advised !

  • Don't play fps or MOBA/RTS games on a 30+ inch screen.

27 inch max with 144 Hz monitor.
Get a second monitor for the programming etc.

expensive (not looking to spend more than 500) for monitor and I don't really trust Kogan.

  • I got that exact Samsung monitor.

I dont game I use it for my home office, its pretty good. The HDMI cable that comes with it seemed crap. I had to buy a good display port cable to get 60hz at 4k on my surface pro. Also worth mentioning, 32" is hard to find a dual arm montior stand for.

Edit: same price? The samsung is like $30 cheaper! (apply promo codes for ebay) Save the gift voucher for something else.

    • can get the HN gift cards with 7% off . that's why :) so it's about the same price.
I m pretty sure i will be doing coding , reading text more than i play game but i like the faster response time.
2k vs 4k will i see huge different on display ? like crystal clear texts etc XD

      • I write alot of script for work, writing emails, reading doco. No idea on the 2k vs 4k thing, but even if I look at the screen real close I cant see the pixels easy.

Go in to HN and see if they have the samsung on the shelf you have have a look it. I am pretty happy with the samsung, seems the ebay price is now even cheaper than when I bought it a few months back.

        • Thanks for all the reply mad! Unfortunately, no stock for Samsung at my local HN. I only saw FHD 32 Samsung which is a terrible resolution. everything is blur IMO.
This 4k Samsung i can't adjust the height of the monitor ? i really like the LG monitor stand. so easy to move around.

          • @triplenet: Nah no height adjustment from the stand that comes with it. Just get an arm, they are cheap enough.

  • Hi triplenet. I bought a BenQ EW3270U 32 recently. I also play Overwatch and MOBAs. I am really liking the 4k, everything (that works) in Windows 10 seems super smooth. This monitor has a HDR button which I find excellent. Gaming or a show in the day, I turn it on. At night it becomes way too bright and I switch to low blue light mode. Super handy.

Downsides are that the light isn't uniform, there are bright spots around the edges which I find annoying occasionally if the'res a full screen of one colour / black. The other is that not all programs work properly with 4k currently. Some appear blurry as they don't upscale quite right. Fullscreen games can sometimes have issues with text too. Overwatch is fine, but Leagues has tiny text in-game which is a little annoying.

Overall I'm happy with the size and don't find it too big.

I got 4K Samsung 27" and the detail is great compared to 1080. 4K would be way better for 32" monitor size than 2K for watching movies, provided you can find 4K content. The LG seems more geared towards fast pace FPS games.

    • Isn't everything tiny? If you scale, doesn't it look blurry. Had the same trouble with a 40"

      • +1

I think the scaling only blurs icons. Or other content still not optimized for 4k. But they will all catch up, 4k will soon become the norm, it’s much easier on the eyes.

    • will i see a very different resolution between 2k and 4k ? I dont think i will watch a lot of 4k movies. probably 2 out of 10 movies. but in terms of viewing , like coding , reading texts etc. Will it has huge different ? I tried looking 32'" FULL HD in the store . It's very blurr. Not sure why people buy 32 inch monitor with FHD only.

The difference between my 27” 4k and 27” 1080 is really noticable when using office related programs and when gaming. If you are not that fussed about gaming, get the 4k, it’s better for viewing detail and less strain on your eyes. The samsung you were watching though, has va panel. IPS are newer tech, brighter panels and have better field of view.

  • Have you considered this?

    Or the IPS version
    https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Monitors/25plus-inch/726…

    1440p @ 32" is about the same pixel density as 1080p @ 24"

I have the LG 31.5, money well spent, no dead pixels, no bleed, its factory 102.3% SRGB / 72 % NTSC calibrated at 6500K no need for fiddling with settings, it comes with a certificate from LG and which calibration tool they used. For the display size no windows scaling required for the size, I see no blurry text, i have a 28" 4k and had a 34" 3440x1440 ultrawide, this monitor is at 2560x1440 at 144hz perfect middle IMO. Also cant beat ~3000:1 static contrast. The only con is if you were looking for a wide gamut monitor which movies now tends to lean towards, you will be a bit disappointed with just SRGB but sRGB is the color space for gaming and design work. For HDR this monitor falls short of the HDR400 category due to only having 350nits brightness though that is plenty bright since you are sitting in front of it on a desk, unlike TVs true HDR1000 requirement of 1000nits due to their large size and viewing distance.

    • hay out of curiously , how do you know there's no bleed or not ? apart from default screen very birght i can't see anything as well

I would personally go the 4k monitor so the Samsung.

2k is nice but 4k is nicer and then 8k and so on.

Your 1070Ti should be more than enough for the games that you are playing and maybe even some new ones at medium to low settings.

But yeah I would say 4k for future proofing.

Remember you can still run 2k on your 4k monitor but not the other way around.

32" is a good size it depends on your use case scenario but for me I sit a bit back so am aiming for 32" to 38" if I could fit larger I would but my desk is a bit small atm unless I do a complete room renovation and buy a bigger desk and move some stuff around.

Honestly ideally I want a 65" 4k BFD Nvidia with G Sync but am just hopelessly wishing now haha lol.. my eye sight is so bad that bigger is better for me unfortunately and I know I am in the minority or the exception but hey who isn't.

So yeah 4k is my vote but good luck to whatever you decide or choose on.

    • Thanks , 32 is good size for me . I went to the store today to check. I can't really see any diffrent with 2k vs 4k in text . probably because i m not looking at the game or movies. anyhow 4k is not on sale atm. I might wait for boxing day. Hopefully that 4k Benq sale will come back. :)

      • Yeah you won't really notice it with normal usage besides the increased screen real estate but in games if you can't tell the difference between 2k and 4k then maybe you might just be sitting a bit far back maybe.

ended up getting the LG one. It looks perfect size to me and good resolution. Thanks you everyone for advise.
By the way, what's the recommended setting for this monitor, the factory setting is very bright. Thanks you all :)

Lucky no dead pixels on it. Did try to do backlight bleed test but as I don't really know how to tell differently. it's probably fine.

  • If it's primarily used for activities other then gaming, odds are you'll benefit much more from a high res screen.

I see that you bought the LG one. Just curious, what's the difference between 4k and what the LG one was saying?

    • +1

the main differences are 4k vs 2k and 60hz vs 144hz . The Monitor stand and bezels size. LG has very thin bezels. Also more newly monitor I guess?

  • I am using 27UK850 lg 4k monitor and happy with everything now my only complain is dual monitor setup is best for coding but can't afford to spend same among for second pair of monitor. I will suggest you to look for good pair of 2k or fhd monitor then 4k and invest in good keyboard. I was using viewsonic 2k 27 inch monitor which cost $299. There is bit of light bleeding problem but not bad at all. It was IPS panel as well. Look at either Msy or centercom and you will find that. And later you can add another monitor for cheap and in my view dual monitor makes programming way easy as you are likely going too use multiple window open at same time.

    • hay thanks for the reply. ended up getting the 144hz one. it looks good in my eyes. I can still clearly see the text with sharp enough in my eyes. will probably use my old monitor as a dual. have g910 which is not a noisy and good typing to me :) thanks for the advised
