Hi, Looking at booking a budget car in Hua Hin. Easy enough to get the rate and to include the LDW but I'm unable to find if there is an option for waiving the excess and if so, at what cost. The alternative is to go with a 3rd party company that offers an all inclusive insurance package, albeit you have to pay upfront and then claim it back. Wondered if any of you have been down this path and can offer your insight
Budget Car Rental - Thailand

Have you try through your hotel? In bangkok and phuket, i remembered just asking the desk to provide me either a scooter (phuket) and car ( bangkok ) which mean no extra fees and it s between the hotel and you which make everything much easier
Get travel insurance. Maybe with TID. Most car hire excesses are included in travel insurance.
READ THE PDS.
Thanks. I have travel insurance and it does cover the excess. I’ve read some stories of the car hire company attempting insist on all manner of extras at time of pick up so I’m just trying to get as much tidied up before arriving
good
you will still likely have to allow them to 'reserve' some money on your credit card to cover the excess
if you damage the car, they take from your cc and then you claim on your insurance and get it back a little later
make sure you read your policy you may need to get a licence translation (IDP).
I would never drive in a place like Thailand, it's crazy on the roads and taxi's etc are cheap enough.
Try Mr Google instead of Ozbargain!
Used to use this company lots years ago but I don't go to Thailand as much anymore. They worked out the cheapest for me at that time.
https://www.fastcarhire.co.uk/i recommend them to a friend once and his Thai wife called an airport and found cars half the price of the above whether they were fully insured he never mentioned that part.
Back from Thailand and thankfully no dramas with the car. The Budget rep tried to upsell the extra insurances but as I had purchased full cover via rentalcover.com I declined all others than the included LDW. I wouldn’t drive in Bangkok but around Hua Hin and out to the resort we stayed at near Pran Buri was no real drama. Thanks for your input
Your chance of having an accident would probably be reasonably high in thailand (too many idiots on scooters) so make sure you go with good coverage and a reputable brand otherwise you may be a target for scam artists.
