[PC Steam] Free - Counter-Strike: Global Offensive CS: GO Goes Battle Royale and Free to Play @ Steam

1570

Just announced this morning.

More info.

Valve just announced Danger Zone, "a fast-paced battle royale game mode built on CS:GO's tactical gameplay where players use their wits, skill, and resources to fight to the finish." Additionally, CS:GO itself is now free to play.

CS:GO players will now be separated into two matchmaking groups: Prime and non-prime. "When you have Prime Status you are matched with other players who also have Prime Status, and Prime users are eligible for Prime-exclusive souvenir items, item drops, and weapon cases."

CS:GO going free-to-play signifies, in part, that Valve is confident in the game's current anticheat solution, delivered through a machine learning system called VACnet.

oh wow, here coems an influx of hackers in CS:Go

    • +16

      But they have mAcHiNE lEaRnInG~~~

      • +2

You joke but MaChine LeArNINg banned words like "Titanfall" and "white man" in the chat box of Battlefield 5 on PC.

even machines are becoming racist. /s

    • +4

Well that's why they'll be separating F2P players. So you can imagine this will be a cheat fest vs the paying players in the Prime match making.

      • +7

        It's actually genius.

People test their cheats on the free to play hack fest, exposing themselves to detection, valves system eventually learns how to spot it (assuming they aren't crap - big assumption), preventing it being as big of a problem for (at least for as long for) the paying customers.

By the same token, people get to test their hacks for free now, which means more hacks possible I guess. So double edged sword :)

      • Yeah smart system. The hackfest provides a reason to pay for Premium.

Plus they can apply a more aggressive auto detection on Premium since it's not a total game ban just suspension to F2P while they appeal the case.
No need to forgive hackers, they can still play the game, only with all the other hackers.

        • Wouldn't the hackers play premium? Otherwise there is no reward for hacking?

  • +1

Is a free to play game considered a deal or did the whole CS:GO become free to play??

    • The whole of CSGO is free to play including matchmaking

    • +6

If you don't have the game you can now play for free but will get matched with non-prime players… If you paid for it already you'll be upgraded to Prime status with exclusive benefits.

      • +1

        Awesome, that's good to know.

      • When you reach a certain matchmaking rank you get upgraded to prime for free. It's to try and seperate out the hackers from the paid players.

  • +7

Friday at the office just got 10x better.

    • Getting all my colleagues to sign up now. haha

  • +2

quote "If you already owned CS:GO, you're a Prime player" - no need to purchase the prime thing if you already own the PAID version

now i know what to do this weekend

    • +2

Thank God was about to rage at another game going free that I paid for recently.. grr company of heroes 2

      • +1

Company of Heroes 2 is temporally free as opposed to going free to play.

        • No, if you claim it during the free period it will stay in your account forever. You "own" it then as much as one can "own" anything on Steam.
It is not a free-to-play weekend.

          • +2

@Lysander: Temporarily (excuse the spelling error) free as in a temporary window to add it to your account for free. I didn't say it was a free to play weekend.

            • @Daniel6092: Still confusing. It is in fact free forever (not temporarily) once you claimed it.Temporarily free sounds like a free-to-play time. Everybody in the office here understood is as such and I believe if such a diverse group as the people here thinks all the same then it is not clear.

              • +1

@Lysander: When I say temporarily it is in the context of it being at the cost of $0 on the Steam store, the game is free until Monday 10am Pacific Time. If you went to grab it on Tuesday it wouldn't be free any longer would it? Obviously once you claim the game to your account it's yours to keep forever but that's besides the point.

                • @Daniel6092: I understand what you say but nevertheless your original comment without your extra explanations (which you have already delivered so no need for more) was still confusing and a bit misleading.

                  • +2

@Lysander: I understood what he meant
                    You just complicated things.

                    • @Hirolol: And as long as you do that is the measuring stick, right?
I hope you forgive us lowly unimportant servants. ;-)

        • thanks mate. Was this posted separately? I already have aoe2hd so don't even know why I'm here, but now I just got company of heroes 2 for free.

          winning :)

  • +1

Players with Prime Status are matched with other Prime Status players and are eligible to receive Prime-exclusive souvenir items, item drops, and weapon cases.
    CS:GO Prime Status Upgrade: $19.50

Why can't they introduce a system like this for Team Fortress 2, there's hackers running wild in that game thanks to the free-to-play nature and Valve does nothing about them, even their VAC system is decades behind. The same could be said for the Left 4 Dead games, despite being paid products.

    • +1

      Upgrade to Team Fotress 3

    • +2

Because TF2 doesn't make the kind of money CS:GO does.

      • Once upon a time it did iirc. Hats was all the rage in those days.

    • -1

Wait for a deal on Overwatch.. pretty much the same game as tf2

      • Hehe you funny

  • OP please edit post with the announcement page

    https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2600-RIP…

    • -1

      Also product tags

      • steam game
      • pc game
      • free to play (new one that would be cool to start using to collate the free to play titles in a product tag category)
  • Guess Valve is confident enough by going free 2 play, their loot boxes and skins must be raking in a fortune.

    • +2

Well with how much dota makes and it not slowing down you can imagine how much CSGO makes.

      • dota is nothing compared to LoL's player base

        • LoL is nothing compared to 王者荣耀's player base

          • @follow: Different country mate. As usual **** is making no sense

        • Huh? That is completely irrelevant.

  • +1

It's about time their BR mode came out, it's been "leaked" for so long now.

  • +1

So last time offline only and this time free for all?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/407456

    • How do you play offline? Bots?

      • +1

Yep, the last free version was to watch gotv and play with bots.

This version is the entire game free.

  • something something Danger Zone

    • Hiiiiiiighwaaaaaay to the…

  • I wonder how Astralis NaVi and Liquid are doing

  • +1

    Is Danger Zone live yet?
I've been sitting in matchmaking for 10 minutes

    • Yeah I gave up after 5 minutes.

  • +7

    Do I need amazon prime?

    • Nothing to do with amazon.

      • Its an unfortunate choice of name.

  • -2

Is this an out-of-season April Fools' joke?

    • +1

True or not that comment is kind of funny and makes me smile.

  • -1

Free to play and in game purchases.

It’s one way to make profit in this gaming industry, look at fornite.

    • yeah but FOrtnite is a crap game built for twelvies

CS:GO has a long history of competitive gaming.

  • +1
