A friend of mine is looking to buy Pajero Exceed new…Dealer offered $61k and said can go lower and asking for a price from him. What should he offer - any thoughts? What accessories he should ask for as well?

Thoughtful response, thanks.
A friend of mine bought one with front bullbar, tow bar and tinting for around 57-58k
thanks - much appreciated
The Pajero is a no-fuss real 4WD which will practically go anywhere and get the job done, so no complaints on reliability or ruggedness.
But it is based on the 12 year old V80 platform which was first introduced in 2006 and most likely would not get replaced with a new model either. So if your friend is after a comfortable and safe family hauler with all the creature comforts, latest technology and active-passive safety then the Pajero should be the last on the list.
There are plenty of other options for that price bracket.
he is decided on the vehicle - his dream types !
Its still very competitive with its independent suspension and a relatively sophisticated monocoque construction. The only downside is that it will be discontinued soon. It still is my dream car too and I am torn deciding between this one and its younger brother Pajero Sport.
Until you look at the rear end of the Sport 🤮
They are so ugly

I've got a 2009 Pajero Exceed. I don't think there's too much difference between that and a more recent version - I know you get a better head unit (mine is stuck in the 90s…). I wouldn't bother getting accessories through the dealer unless you bring your own lube (as they'll charge you your firstborn for that too). Just push for mats, headlight protectors, bonnet protector to be thrown in. A cargo mat would be good too. If he's keen on 4wding try and get one with a factory rear diff locker - it's awesome.
Get front tinting done elsewhere. The rear window is privacy glass and UV protected. Don't worry about the dealer paint or interior protection BS. Spend that on some Bowden's Own products instead and keep it waxed.
I'd get weather shields off eBay unless you can get them thrown in too. Mine came with full coverage rubber mats which are great, but they are pretty expensive new.
I'm not sure how much he wants to mod it, but 2 inch lift can be had fairly cheaply off eBay, same with a bullbar which are both easy DIY installs also light bars etc. Otherwise get it done at MCC or TJM etc.
I've had my Pajero for over a year now and can't recommend it enough. It's been a perfect family car for around town, touring and off road. It's been extremely reliable while mates 4wds have broken down countless times. Apparently the Pajero is NOT being discontinued but may be refreshed with Nissan now that they have been bought out.
