Planning to Buy a 7 Seater (Used Not Less than MY2017) - Suggestions Needed

i have seen couple of kluggers which actually suits my budget (30-35K) on below link.
https://www.landertoyota.com.au/used-car/search/kluger/

I need suggestions if i can find a better vehicle or a better deal in EOY sales.

    Fortuner?

    • -1

i initially shortlisted ISuzu mux and Fortuner , also approached Auto expert Guy John Cadogen, he suggested me not buy any of these instead go for Pajero sport because it got 8 speed transmission and Isuzu / Fortuner are kind of outdated. i like the look of Klugger and it got enough power but as it is EOY sale season so thinking of widening my search .

Lol did you actually listen to that goose?

        • +1

He tries really hard to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Auto eggspurt probably has some shares in Mitsubishi then. He is a tool, only out to make money for himself by fleecing you of hard earned under the pretence if making your new car or chase cheaper.

      • Mate get a MUX. You won’t be disappointed. We’ve had ours for almost 2 years now and it’s great. No engine issues at all. In fact the cars getting even better now. If you have any questions on it let me know and I might be able to answer them or point you in the right direction.

        • i have seen couple of reviews, on low RPMs driver needs to put more effort to turn vehicle. i am sure about the build and Engine Quality, MUX would be good. what about the servicing / Maintenance cost, is it cheaper than other vehicles or just as costly as others.

any idea about the resale, i don't see many on sale, is it because no one wants to sell or no one is willing to buy?

          • +1

@usmani4all: I bought a throttle controller (which a lot of people do) and that removes the lag when accelerating. Not sure about the issue with turning the vehicle.

The service/maintenance cost is the same as other similar cars… except there aren't as many engine issues from what I've seen/heard.

I'm on lots of Isuzu Facebook groups and it is rare to see a MU-X for sale as people love them. Not too sure on the resale (as people normally keep them for a long time) but probably not as good as a Toyota. There are a few D-MAXs for sale though (usually work cars).

If you use Facebook, join one of the groups there and you will find lots of info. Or the Ozisuzu forum. Feel free to ask anymore questions here though.

    Please don't say Klugger.

      Why mate?

      • +1

Toyota Kluger doesn't have two "Gs".

        • Klooger
          Klüger
          Klueger
          Kluga
          Highlander

    Honda Odyssey

    • it is good, but it kind of under power.

      • For 11L/100Km you cant expect more.

        Klugger easily 15L/100km.

        • i think it is 10 L/100 KM

          • @usmani4all: on the book or your experience?

Honda claims a combined cycle average of 7.8L/100km, but i never able to get this figure

          • @usmani4all: We get 6.6km/l urban. It isn't a Kluger.

          • @usmani4all: Friend says his kluger is 12-13l/100 driving easy on pedal

        • For 11L/100Km you cant expect more.

          Klugger easily 15L/100km.

That's terrible. I get 11l/100Km around town in my full size Pajero diesel.

          • @subywagon: diesel? Kluger is petrol

          • +3

@subywagon: Of course diesel will be more economical than a 3.5 V6 petrol…

In other news, the sky is blue

            • @spackbace:

Of course diesel will be more economical than a 3.5 V6 petrol

So what? It's still terrible economy. Might as well go full size suv in diesel then.

              • @subywagon: Full size SUV? A Kluger isn't a full-size?

What are you smoking and can I have some? 😂

                Length Width Height
                Kluger 4890 1925 1730
                Pajero 4900 1875 1900

So because your Paj is 10mm longer, and 170mm taller, yet 50mm thinner, you think it's somehow in a different class to Kluger?

Oh and both have the same rated combined fuel economy figure, with the Kluger rated to be better on country roads, but the Paj diesel better around town.

                • @spackbace:

Oh and both(beta.redbook.com.au) have the same rated combined fuel economy figure

Of course diesel will be more economical than a 3.5 V6 petrol

So which is it then? Normally claimed fuel economy is fairly off. Someone mentioned they get 15L/100km which is shocking if true, especially in this day and age. As I said I average around 11L/100km in town, and that's with full under body protection plates and bull bar. Who cares if it's a V6, I'd go for the more economical option.

The Klugers must be decieving with their size, they seem much smaller when I'm next to them in traffic, maybe my lift kit has something to do with it :P

                • @spackbace: The 170mm height (which is a fair amount anyway) and 10mm length is not confined to a 2D plane, so it does make an overall difference in size even considering the width. You also forgot to mention vehicle weight in your cool table which is around 245kg difference too, with the Pajero Exceed being heavier compared to a Kluger Grande.

And yes, amazingly the Kluger isn't a full sized suv but a Mid-size crossover SUV. While the Pajero is within the Mid-sized suv category. Also the Pajero is within the MC class as a fully fledged off road vehicle. I'm not sure what the Kluger is classed as, I'm assuming MA. Would love to see a Kluger on some tracks though being a "full size suv" 😂

Also of note is the actual space within the cabin, 1069L of space with 2nd row seats up, seats down you've got 1798L compared with the Kluger's 529L and 1117L. Guess that extra 50mm width the Kluger has doesn't help…

So taking all this into consideration not bad even if they did have the same fuel economy.

I don't smoke, so you can keep whatever you're smoking in that glass pipe to yourself 😉

              • @subywagon: Guess you don't add in the additional servicing costs for Diesel and the shorter servicing schedules…
The fact the Diesel cost more than 98RON at the moment too…. not that a Kluger actually requires 98ron….
Only reason u would go a diesel would be if you were gunna buy a 200 series land cruiser.

I hired one for a while while my car was getting repaired and I averaged just over 10l/100 in mixed use. No idea where 15 comes from. Same engine in the Aurion gets low 8s

          • @brendanm: Yep in our Aurion 90% city driving I get around 9.5L/100km, and I'm reasonably aggressive. Although the Aurion is smaller and lighter.

        • Nah Kluger gets me 10-11L/100km premium unleaded and 11-12L/100km unleaded. Mainly urban driving

      • +3

why do you want power? you're basically driving a bus for your family

  • Go for Kia Sorrento…Good mileage and lots of features..

    • i don't think so would be able to get a good deal in used one, would i?

      • Carsales has a few 2017 models <$35k with less than 20,000 on the clock

        • Add about $1500 stamp duty.

Plus they're very likely to be ex-rental

2018 brand new for $4,500 extra before negotiation

  • Kia Carnival if you need 7 seats all the time.

    • it is above my range as well as larger than my Parking space.

  • +4

The 3rd row for 7 seat SUVs are not for adults, it's too cramped.

  • Brand new GX is $40,990 drive away right now.

Makes sense once you add stamp duty to those older ones (and most will be ex-rental). And won't have the lane departure, radar cruise etc

  • +3

If you only use the 7 seats on rare occasions the Mitsubishi Outlander is best bang for buck

  • I have an Outlander which I am pretty happy with, but it's not really a 7 seater as the 3rd row is too small for adults but fine for kids.

    • I'm 6' and have sat in the back of my 2014 outlander. I fit but definitely wouldn't do for anything other than than a short trip

Why the need for an SUV? A demo 2018 Honda Odyssey for $35k would be a much better proposition, and more interior room meaning more comfort for the passengers as well as being dimensionally around the same size outside as the Kluger. Not to mention it'll probably use less fuel too.

    • Or 2 2008 Camry's. Cut the front off one, the back off the other. Weld. Camry limo!

      • It'll be a basically maintenance free version of James May's Salfa Romeaab!

    • Honda Odyssey

These are weak with low clearance. Load it with 4 adults and it'll scrape its fender on every parking stopper and shopping car park out there.

      • So would a lot of other sedans based on my experience. Not that surprising considering the Odyssey is based on a sedan platform.

        • That is a good reason to choose a SUV over a sedan, hatchback or station wagon.

          • @whooah1979: There are compromises on both sides (at least in the large SUV v MPV sector), buying a 7 seat SUV unless you go full size (Like an LC200 or Disco 5) you generally get less interior space (esp. 3rd row seating), less interior comfort and some sort of compromise in ride/handling or both. On the other hand you get extra ride height/off road capability, bigger fuel tank capacity and a more powerful motor in the SUV counterpart generally. I'd rather the MPV if I had to carry a family around town and primarily on sealed roads.

    • let me know if you see an option of Odyssey VTi/ VTi-L for 35K

  • Kia rondo!!
    Love ours, bloody awesome cAr
Buck the stupid city suv trend

  • LDV G10 executive - latest model - $37k

  • Prius V for the fuel economy.

  • I am thinking to import a Alphard or buy a 2009 Elgrand.

    • what about spare parts?

    • well, you can always import but the problem is you won't be able to find insurance for the vehicle and if you are lucky enough to find that , it is very costly.

my friend recently imported Toyota Estima and he struggled with finding insurance, he had to get the one from some third party not directly from any big insurer.

Parts is another concren if you import a vehicle.

    SantaFe?

  • Avoid the herd mentality. Break the mould.

    Get a Mercedes Benz Valente.

You and your family will be eternally grateful.

  • have you looked at the auction I've seen kluggers 2017 going with by 25000 km for around $25,000

    • any specific website?
