  • Prefer the Tofurky ones that Woolworths sell personally… but I'll still get some of these :)

    • The Tofurky are nice and big, but I think the taste is overrated to be honest.

  • +1

I may give them a try.

    • +3

I can’t promise I’ll try, but I’ll try to try

      • +5

I'm not vegetarian but I don't mind trying something different.

        • +2

All good, I was quoting Bart Simpson 🤪. I have a few different Vegie Delights in the freezer and they are ok. Meat sausages generally leave an awful taste in my mouth so these ones could be quite good.

        • The secret to a good veggie sausage is to cook them on the barbie immediately after you cook pork sausages.

        • +2

Honestly mate, if you aren't veggo I wouldn't bother with these. Just eat a meat-free meal. "Meat replacements" are no such thing. They're pretty much all bland as bleep, even the best ones don't hold a candle to a Bunnings snag or a minute steak.

I'm veggo and these are more like something you crave for and just get a couple times a month when you really want a meaty feeling meal. Don't get them if you're not veggo, they'll put you off haha.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: I once bought a pack of mushroom burgers reduced to 50c and froze them. A few months later I nearly chucked them out but at the last moment decided to microwave them. My tastiest burgers for ages, but Coles never stocked them again.

      • +2

Do or do not. There is no try.

  • +1

These taste quite good. Used to buy them a lot for a simple lunch.

    • +5

Do you resell them on eBay?

      • +2

Nah, he just says he does but in reality only bought one pack.

  • The Smoked Chipotle Sausages are foul.

    • +11

Nope just checked the ingredients. They are also vegetarian.

    • +9

It's just a sausage without the meat though.
A sausage is a sausage because of the shape really, and this shape is practical to be put in bread rolls, for example.

      • -4

Sausages are of the shape we known them as because they are originally made from intestines.

    • +1

      Because it's not meat lol!!!!!!

    • +7

A sausage shape is a practical thing. The veggo alternatives like those fake bacon slices are a bit weird though. And it still doesn’t taste like bacon.

But to be honest, I prefer a veggo hot dog over a “real thing” frank. Who knows what shit is in there?

      • Franks contain the animal bits that process the shit

    • +26

Because its an ethical objection, not a taste-based one. The white keys on your piano keyboard are meant to simulate ivory. Do you have an issue with that too?

      • +1

Excuse me, the white keys on my keyboard are ivory thank you very much.

        • has an ivory keyboard, is on ozbargain, don't make me laugh commoner

    • +5

The only poor taste is from real sausages made from left over animal bits and pieces, squished into a shape and sold like its a delicacy. Yuurrkkgghh.

      • +2

Who thinks of sausages as delicacies? They're cheap and convenient bbq food.

        • -3

Who thinks of sausages as delicacies?

Vegans apparently, from that Freudian slip.

    • +3

Just because I don't agree with animals being exploited, doesn't mean I don't think they are delicious?

    • +8

wtf kind of argument is this? The ethical objection is to how animals in agriculture are treated. If you remove that, what’s wrong with simulated meat? Where is the ethical dilemma in this?

    • +5

This makes zero sense. I love the taste of meat, in fact it’s all I used to eat. I’ve even had a guinea pig on a stick. Now there are so many fake meat options, without the guilt of contributing to torture and murder- how can I still I be accused of being unethical? The only thing that’s in poor taste is continuing to support the animal agriculture industry.

      • What does guinea pig taste like?

      • +1

All animals are innocent and do not deserve to be so badly treated by humans. If you buy and consume meat you are responsible as you are paying people to do this to the innocent animals.

    • -4

Many silly people negging for no reason.

Also, healthy foods are whole foods, as much plant based as possible. Clearly this fails under the first category.

    • That would seem to be in poor taste.

Also lol I see what you did there.

  • +2

These are not bad but I still prefer the Quorn sausages to all others.

    • +1

Quorn sausages have egg in them though.:(

      • Ahh yes. I remember this from my vegan days :(

        • -7

          Congratulations on your rehabilitation.

          • -3

@HighAndDry: Okay seriously, I have nothing against vegans - live and let live and all that - but you're not helping your reputation as people utterly devoid of a sense of humour here…

    • +12

I wouldnt call the stuff that goes into sausages 'meat' by any stretch of the imagination.

      • -1

I'm pretty sure vegetarians do call it meat. (Because otherwise they'd be able to eat it)

    • hahah, you know what's in "meat" sausages, these are way healthier

  • +1

Their 'Classic Hot Dogs' are great uncooked. Just slice them up and whack onto a salad Sanga, Wrap etc. I am a 50 year vegetarian and don't like anything that looks, smells or tastes like meat.

    • I prefer the ‘classic’ veggo hot dogs to the real thing. They taste better and I don’t have the worry about what is in them.

They are even better wrapped in bacon. Although come to think about it, that is true of just about every major food group.

      • +1

I stayed with my Israeli friend in the US a few months ago. Talking about breakfast and she says she loves bacon. I'm like "yeah, I like to bake". She looks at me and says "No BACON". I stammer back "but you're jewish". She responds with "yeah, but bacon is sooo good".

As a vegetarian it still baffles me that she would eat something she shouldn't due to "beliefs".(it's her call so no judgement but jewish&bacon!! - that's the main thing people know about Judaism) And her husband and children eat it too. They are Kosher in all other ways. She doesn't tell her family back in Tel Aviv. But bacon..

        • To be fair, "but bacon" is a good reason for a lot of things.

        • +2

My Muslim girlfriend is the same.

          Ordering at a restaurant:
          SMD: Let's have this!
BAE: No, I don't eat pork.
          SMD: Why?
          BAE: I'm Muslim.
SMD: But you ordered Caesar salad yesterday.
          BAE:
SMD: That has bacon in it.
          BAE: I like bacon.
SMD: Uuuhhh, you know that bacon is made from pork?
          BAE: *pretty smile*
SMD: Are you sure you're a Muslim? You don't have to have a religion. Even if you were born into it, but don't really believe in it, then you can call yourself non-religious, like me. ^_^
          BAE: No, I'm Muslim.
          SMD:
BAE: You're so cute! *pretty smile*

I left it at that because she's scorchingly hot. Extramarital sex is perfectly fine with her too. Who am I to judge?

  • -7

This is the most funny part about so called vegetarian or vegan or any sorts. Still wants animal protein and mimic it with vegetables.

    • well it's than than being you

      • well it's than than being you

        What.

        • well it's better than being you. At least there's two birds now

    • -5

Not having a go at them, but it's because being vegetarian is inherently unnatural for humans who're evolved as omnivores (and so can't obtain all our required nutrients from vegetables like say, cows can).

      • +2

I’ve been vegan for years and I’m perfectly healthy. Same as all the vegans I know.

        • I didn't say it's not possible. I said it's not natural, because humans are naturally omnivores. I think it's Lysine (?) that's the hardest to get. Not impossible though - even from naturally occurring foods.

          • @HighAndDry: The vegan diet is typically low in Vitamin B12 (devoid actually), Vitamin D, EPA and DHA.

          • @HighAndDry: Using a computer isn’t natural, but you seem to be doing it anyway to post your comment.

Science and technology helps us lead better and more ethical lives :)

            • @WingedNike: I never said there was anything wrong with it - jeez, only vegetarians/vegans would equate "natural" with "good".

Plus - computers make life more convenient. I'm fairly sure they do not let us lead "better" and certainly not "more ethical" lives.

        • I’ve been vegan for years and I’m perfectly healthy. Same as all the vegans I know.

How do you consume Vitamin B12?

          • +1

@Scrooge McDuck: Pills, they are vegetarian and come from the tree "naturis wayis".

          • +1

@Scrooge McDuck: It’s already added to the soy/almond milk I drink.

Sometimes I take a pill or use a spray, but I don’t really need to. I get regular blood tests done (for an unrelated medical condition) and I’ve never been iron or b12 deficient. Companies put it in soy milk etc which is nice.

          • @Scrooge McDuck: Personally, I like to wash the dirt off my veggies, so I take a supplement instead.

    • This is the most funny part about so called vegetarian or vegan or any sorts. Still wants animal protein and mimic it with vegetables.

Some people theorise that our brains tell us what we need (in which nutrients we are deficient) through food cravings. This product contains added Vitamin B12, of which meat is an excellent source but the vegan diet is completely devoid. It also contains iron and zinc which can be scarce in vegan diets.

      • +1

Plenty of leafy greens, legumes, vegetables etc and you’re fine for iron. B12 is the only supplement we really ever need.

I love snags. I can have delicious snags without animals being killed for it.

        Win win.

  • This product is not available nationwide and still shows as $7 for QLD locations. OP, how are you getting the discounted price? Thanks.

    • An email from Coles. One of those emails that tells you what products you have previously purchased and are now/soon to be on special.

      • What is the current online price for your location?

            • +1

@moocher: Redcliffe or newport are my local stores. The email says my local is Redcliffe. But when I go to Coles omline and set location forr either of those 2 stores it shows regular price. Except for the veggie roast is on special.

Email has been this paragraph attached to it :
