Where to Stay in Bangkok? Need a Car & Driver from Bangkok to Hua Hin.

We have a couple of days in Bangkok at either end of our holiday - wondering what area to stay - not really sightseeing this time - more shopping, especially for fabric - appreciate any hotel suggestions too - 4 or 5 star

Hi, Would like to benefit from your experience - plenty to be found but would like a good reliable one at a fair price

  • I only stayed there a couple of times, Id suggest you try to find a hotel in Sukhumvit near the BTS skytrain as it is good for getting to the major shopping as well as the stalls during the nite and avoiding taxis rip offs. also air conditioned

Also if there on a weekend check out http://www.bangkok.com/shopping-market/popular-markets.htm

Good for shopping and the experience alone.

  • We usually end up in Bangkok twice per year and our favourite hotel is the St Regis Bangkok - I can't help you with fabrics as I have never shopped for that ;) but if you want a rooftop bar suggestion (my favourite is Cru Champagne Bar), amazing restaurant experience (Gaggan or Suhring) or maybe a nightclub? go to Levels first then later skip over to Insanity. Rod Fai Market at Ratchada is a fun casual experience for the evening as well. Whatever you decide, Bangkok is a BIG city, and travelling around even on the efficient BTS can be a bit of a drag - and that is why I will recommend for you - the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. Connected to the BTS and MRT is not too far, its in the right area towards the airport, that BTS line it is on (sukhumvit) gets you to most things within five stops (unless you plan to do some tourist things like go on the river for a cruise to see temples / Asiatique or visit the AMAZING Icon Siam complex).

  • I recommend staying at the Marriott Hua Hin. Really good use of a Marriott category 4 certificate. PM me when you are going. If we are there at the same time we can meet up.

Most uber drivers will agree to drive to Hua Hin for 2000 baht. In Hua Hin you can find many car companies that will drive you back to Bangkok for 1400.

  • In Bangkok exist of a four seasons hotel where is the real four seasons hotel, just the price is the lowest amoung all global four seasons hotel. Anyway, it's worth to experience once of the lowest price four seasons hotel in bangkok. Andwhere else get at least trible of the price.

Nice and spacious rooms, poss approx 3000thb. In the middle of nice, but reasonable restaurants, stroll to Nana BTS.

I would be very surprised if you could get to or from HuaHin under 2,000 THB in a car/taxi. It is not a short distance. Much much further than Pattaya.

    • way back is cheaper. uber drivers usually have nicer cars. I believe you need to pay in cash as the uber app doesn't let them drive out of the city.

      • no uber anymore. grab will be much more expansive then taxi.

        Bus will be cheap.

mini bus, is fast but no big bags and very cramped cost about (400baht) by memory.

taxi was 1800baht each way, driver offered 1500baht if we come again. 2000baht is to much.

If you are considering renting a car or bike, get it in hau hin, it's more quiet.

        • I've been to Hua Hin a few times.

I've been by car, bus, and train. Advantage of train is you cross off one of the tourist sites immediately when you arrive. Seeing the royal platform.

        • I thought that the minivan was about 200 thb, but they have relocated the depot from Victory Monument and not easy to get to. Minivans are very dangerous in Thailand. They run back and forth over long hours, and there are many accidents in minivans - in my opinion mostly due to drivers falling asleep. Also stay away from riding motorbikes in Thailand.
Hilton Hua Hin is in a sensational location. Or for a very clean and cheaper option and great experience may I recommend Bann Lom Le (sometimes called Baan Lom Le)

  • There is a direct bus from Suwanabhumi airport to Hua Hin. Depot is just north of town. Can book online. Proper coach. Have done it from Hua Hin to airport departed 9 a.m. Saturday morning Reached airport at 11.45.a.m. Should allow 3 hrs. It all depends on traffic flow. One brief drop off stop in Cha am before you reach Hua Hin Depot which is close to airport. Very easy to connect to Airport Link train and then Skytrain. Your Bangkok hotel will arrange transport for you to Hua Hin. 2000 Bht seems standard. Big dept stores may stock fabric as do major tailors.

    • there is a bus from DMK airport to victory as well. plenty of transport options there.

  • +1

Just thought I’d say thanks for your input and let you know our experience. We stayed at the Vie Hotel in Bangkok and were very happy with the hotel and the location. The Ratchathewi BTS station is only a few minutes walk and the MBK and Siam large shopping malls are 10minutes walk.
We booked a private car via Mrs Na and after a slow start on email and then moving to WhatsApp we worked things out and everything went well. Cost 2300 baht which seemed reasonable given other posts and we were staying about 30 mins south of Hua Hin
On the way back it looked like Mrs Na was not going to get a car for us but after some “discussion” she came through with Hua Hin to Bangkok 2000 baht

  • Nana hotel in sukhumvit Soi 4.
