The system is 1 year old.

      • -6

The concept is how many years old though?
The DS lite version was where it peaked. Don't really see these anymore.

        • +11

It's a 3DS. Just in 2D. And it is still having games released for it. I think you're confusing it with the DS which is a different system

            • +29

@pennypincher98: Yes. It's like if someone posted a PS4 Pro deal and you saying "Nostalgia…" Because you remember using wireless controllers on your PS3

                • +26

@pennypincher98: It honestly just sounds like you're embarrassed because you mistook this for an original DS. That's fine man. We all make mistakes. Just move on now instead of making yourself look sillier with each new comment

                    • +22

                      @pennypincher98: Can't you realise a PS4 is just like a PS3 which is just like a PS2 which is just like a PS1!!!
It has a disc drive to play games off a disc, controllers, plays games on a tv and a power supply

                    • +1

@pennypincher98: Yeah man, and a Playstation is just like an Atari; nostalgia /s

            • +3

@pennypincher98: Sooooo consoles have pretty much all always looked like a brick, so the the new ones are no good because it's the same old concept???

                • +27

                  @pennypincher98: Dude. Stop.

                  • +4

@Faro: Haha he's just arguing for arguments sake. Some people…

                • @pennypincher98: Well, if you call something a PS and then call the new ones are PSOne, PS2, PS3, PS4…

I'm gonna say you thought this was an original DS, made a mistake, and now you're trying to look like a troll to cover it up.

                • @pennypincher98: Buys an Intel i9 9900K.
                  Remembers the Intel 4004.
                  NOSTALGIA

            • @pennypincher98: If by "idea" you mean a handheld of roughly that size with two screens then yes. That does leave a lot of room though - in this case for a new version of that idea, and an old version - the one you might be trying to say is all versions.

    • +14

How can someone born in 1998 be that nostalgic about anything anyway?

      • Joe Flacco is not elite.

  • +9

I know its not on special, but omg that Pikachu edition's raised nose gets me every time. Such kawaii

    • +9

Got mine for $129 from Amazon. Is my precious.

  • +1

this may be the best edition of the 3DS line up, provided you get at least one IPS screen out of 2.

    • +2

I thought all 2ds xl's came with TN screens?

      • +2

        Correct.

      • oh yeh i got mixed up with 3DS, yes only TN screens for 2DS

  • +1

    Same price as target

  • Anyone know if these come with any games pre-installed?

    • +2

No. But very easy to mod.

    • Has a game called face raiders where using the camera you can shoot yourself flying around, but I only got a few minutes of fun from that.

      • I lost the cards pretty quick too.

    • The games on this system is super cheap.

  • Was switch a complete replacement for the DS?

    • +1

not according to Nintendo and it is still getting releases.

      • +1

I still remember when Nintendo claimed the DS wasn't a replacement for the GBA

        • -3

It wasn't, since you cannot use GBA game cartridge in DS(s)… so no it's not a replacement, it's total different product.

          • +2

@dlovep: The DS plays GBA games.

So does the 3DS and this 2DS. Not emulation. There’s actually GBA hardware inside every 3DS. Need custom fw to use it and the CIA version of the cartridge.

It’s one of the best, mostly unknown features of this console.

            • @PainToad: It seems bizarre that Nintendo went to that trouble and still doesnt release GBA games on the Eshop.

              • @cannedhams:

It seems bizarre that Nintendo went to that trouble

GBA hardware is part of the DS hardware. It was required to have DS backwards compatibility. I’m guessing they didn’t include a GBA slot to keep the thing slim.

still doesnt release GBA games on the Eshop.

They did! But was only (officially) available to ‘ambassadors’.

            • @PainToad: How do you play GBA on 3DS?

              SO emulation then?

              • @Zachary: No! Not emulation. Again, inside every 3DS there is real GBA hardware.

It’s sad so many people don’t know about this awesome feature.

                https://digiex.net/threads/nintendo-3ds-gba-game-injection-g…

                • -1

@PainToad: …still emulation even if it's just for the cartridge slot…..if it's truly native, you should be able to insert an actual GBA cartridge and play from it…..but since there is no such slot on a 3DS system…..you need to emulate it…either through hacking the console itself, with compatible flash carts(either StarGate 3DS or SuperDSTwo+ on DS are the only carts I'm aware that can emulate GBA games to be played on a 3DS console) using physically cartridges or through the local SD card……

So it's no different than using mGBA to play these…..

                  • +2

                    @Zachary:

So it's no different than using mGBA to play these…..

OMG. No offense, but clearly you have zero idea about what you are talking about.

Emulation uses software to interrupt code intended to be run by different hardware. In the case of the 3DS, the exact same hardware is running the code than what is used on the GBA.

As for the lack of cartridge, that makes no difference. Whether the code is loaded from a CIA file on an SD card or from a GBA slot, the data will be identical and feed into identical hardware.

Either your a teenager who doesn't actually understand what emulation is, or you're a troll. Either way, I'm done.

                    • @PainToad: I'm either slow today or confused now…..

                      …well I do have a mind of a kid…..

                  • @Zachary: That's not how emulation works. You are confusing roms with emulators.

                    • @[Deactivated]: So then DosBox is not an emulator? That takes games from the floppy 3.5"/5.25" DOS era games so that they can be played on these newer windows systems….just that you no longer require these floppy diskettes since they're now emulated……

    • Not completely, but it is the future

    • Even if it is, it already has a massive library of games worth playing.

      • As do most other Legacy Consoles.

Damnit I just bought one. No idea why. Have a + from me!

  • +5

Ordered one. Thanks OP. Worth it just for Shovel Knight on the go :)

  • +12

Got my 5 year old an Xbox for xmas… shes been banging on about wanting to 'play video games' over and over.. figured I would be dad of the year.

Then from no where shes become obsessed with Mario. She has never played ANY video game but can somehow now recite every character name from bloody Mario and keeps saying, 'I hope I can play Mario video games at Christmas' DAMMIT!

Anyway TLDR- THANKS OP, bought this, its her Bday end January so Mario can wait until then.

    • +3

Keep an eye on her not letting her visit or register to be an OZbargainer!!

  • Plus 5% cashbacK?

  • Awesome price!

  • Thanks OP. Managed to sneak one of these for under $90 with cashback referral and 8% discount.

  • Got my Minecraft obsessed kid the Creeper Edition for Xmas. It's very 'green'.

  • +8

Ozbargain colours, nice! Great first post Ed.

    • +1

      Thank you :)

  • Very tempting, if I didn't get the Animal Crossing New 3DS for $118, I'd probably jump on this. Good christmas present for young ones - toss in some cheap Nintendo Selects titles like Kirby, Super Mario 3D Land and of course one of my favourites on the system, Picross 3D: Round 2.

You get an adapter with this console!

When will the 3DS SNES go on sale? :(

    • Currently on "Clearance" with Target at $199 for those that still have stock.

  • +3

Onto the Shopback bandwagon people. To victory!

  • +4

Bought one…. Not sure if it's for the kids or me….

  • thanks op - got 1 as Christmas present for the nephew

  • I think this was one of the most impulsive purchases I have ever made.

  • Cheers OP, one more Christmas gift sorted. Also jumped onto ShopBack for the first time after seeing CashRewards had dropped to 5%.

  • +3

Managed to pick up 3ds xl snes edition for like $100 at Target today.

    • not 199? wow how did you manage that?

  • ozbargained, all gone

  • Looks like the deal is over

  • No :( was going to be the perfect Christmas present for the niece but out of stock

  • This isn’t related to the deal but I am wondering why the seller BuyGlobal can sell everything on Amazon and eBay. I literally see this seller on every item I see on Amazon

  • Wow, managed to get it just in time. Combined it with Cashrewards $15 signup and 5% cash back, making it ~$79.

  • Damn waited too long and its gonnne

  • out of stock?

  • wow that was quick. I picked up a DS Lite for 0.99 cents and refurbed it for $20 :)

  • Missed it damn

  • If anyone is looking for a case, I bought this one and it fits pretty sweet, and seems good qual for the price:-

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Transparent-Clear-Crystal-Hard-C…

    • Go with a Hori

  • A shame that I'm retiring my 2ds, otherwise I'll get this just to make some games run smoother.

  • Hey all, I just received my order.
On my machine, the hinge feels very weak. If I move the machine, even very slightly, the whole top screen flaps around.
Also, the D-pad is a bit clicky and doesnt stay in the original position.

    Is this normal?

  • +1

Any cheap games to go with this console? links or guidance would be greatly appreciated?
I read some comments about console being easy to hack but I am not too savvy with stuff like that
Also, the charge cable seems to be of proprietary so how to charge this on the go using a power bank? link?

    • The charge cable connector has been the same back to DS, so is fairly common. Do you have Daiso Japan or DanDa Japan stores where you live? I got a USB to DS cable for $2.80 and can run it off a powerbank.

      • this is exactly what I was looking for, I do have a daiso and some other similar store nearby, I will check in and pick one up.

    • Just received my order and curious on the hackability of the console too. What are the capabilities of a hacked DS and what is required? Also curious on what SD cards are good for the 2DS.

On cheap games @Ace26, I ordered Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest for $20 and DQ7 for $19 from Amazon AU. Also got Ocarina of Time 3D for $24.95 from Amazon but definitely not the cheapest it's been.

      • Sorry for sounding a total noob here, I bought this console for my 5 year old. I haven't played console games in a very long time.
I was looking at eBay and there some 200 in 1 etc game cartridge for like $35, wonder if that would do the job.

  • I missed it again :( :( :(

    It's showing as $220

    • -1

you did not, it didn't get back to $99 today
