I almost purchased the 5000 model from Amazon US (from the comments here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/421462) for $47 but decided that for an extra $33 I would get this model and benefit from:
-More premium model (i assume the 7000 has a 'better' motor than the 5000 series.. but.. y'know what they say about assumption)
-Claims to have reinforced attachments - I press quite hard against my body/head/face while trimming so i welcome the reinforcement
-Lithium Ion battery
-Completely washable
-Local warranty (5 years)

  • That's a lot of attachments. How many of those would actually be necessary? If I wanted to occasionally trim my face and one or two other areas…

    • i generally only use about 3 or 4 of the comb attachments for all of my grooming. plus the nose and narrow trimmer. so about 6 all up.

  • +1

If you're looking for a beard trimmer, it's worth looking into this deal:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058SY1XQ

~$77.65 AUD shipped for a US-made stainless steel Wahl beard trimmer. Usually sells for about $170 locally.

I've owned one of these for about a year and found it excellent.

    • that looks cheap! i looked into these a few weeks ago and i was put off (maybe incorrectly so) by the power button issues.
this philips unit does have 5 years warranty; that's worth something.

    • Pretty sure you listed the wrong one there. THat's a cheapo one.

I had the VS Sassoon pro which has been much better than my SS wahl. It lasts MUCH longer, has never been out of batteries, and is ALWAYS strong and fast, my wahls have been very disappointing.

      • Are you sure you have a US-made Wahl? They are generally regarded as the best beard trimmers.

        • Bought from Shavershop. I have had 3 over the last few years. The ones I buy are generally between 80-$120 as I use them daily. No wahl has lasted me more than a year without having things break like battery life degradation or plastic attachments break. I got given the VS Sassoon as a gift and thought I would just sell it, then my last wahl ran out of batteries (and takes a long time to charge), so I pulled out the VS Sassoon pro and never looked back. I would often have to do up to 4-5 passes on my beard with the wahl too, while 2-3 does it for the VSS.

      • The one I linked to is (or should be) the 9818, which is this model:
        https://www.shavershop.com.au/wahl/stainless-steel-lithium-i…

        • Oh right it is yea, this was one of the first ones I bought. Feels like it's quality but like I said, it didn't last me long. And this exact model would often start losing power and run out very quickly if I didn't charge it after every single use. In the end it would only just last a single trim and start dying on the second day trim. The VSS lasts all week at the very least at full power also cheaper than the wahl - got for $50 at Bing Lee

          • @onlinepred: Hopefully I don't run into any battery issues in the future, but mine is going strong coming up on a year. Battery lasts long enough that I actually forget when I last charged it.

            • @asubtleviolence: Yea the VSS Pro lasted almost 5 months when I trimmed my beard once or twice a week. When it ran out of batteries I realised that I hadn't charged it ever, just used it out of the box.

            • @TheOneWhoKnocks: That's the new model of what I bought yes. If you are interested you can hang out for deals at myer/binglee ebay etc.

  • Great find OP.
    Great first post!

  • Good price, I almost pulled the trigger on the 18in1 kit on Amazon au for 128 last night. I believe that one got larger battery though

  • Is the multigroom or the oneblade a better buy? Seen to both try for the same market.

    • You'll get a much, much closer shave with the one blade. However you will have to replace blades every couple of months, so it's not the best if you don't need a close shave. The one blade trimmer can also get closer than 0.4mm with the comb if that's what you're after.

      • Thanks. A close shave like with a razor, or just a close trim?

        • Definitely more like a razor! It's meant to be a razor substitute with less irritation. A razor gets closer but also removes a layer of skin. The removable comb gives you timming options, so it's very versatile.

  • Anyone know how close the trimmer combs can be set? Do they go to 0.4 or 0.5mm?

  • Just tried to apply PICKNCOLLECT to this item, but it insists that "This code can't be applied to your order". Anyone else seeing this?
