I wonder how youfoods make money with all these constant promos

    • +9

I would imagine they'd be making a decent amount of money at full price, and can afford to offer the discounts to keep people on board / bring new people in. I know quite a few people who are happy to pay full price and hardly ever use promos.

      • +10

fair enough, I've only been ordering youfoodz when they have promo codes happening :D

    • -7

      Meals are 300 calories usually.

    • +6

The promos bring it down to the price they should be, given their portion size. I dare say they make a profit at the promo price.

    • +2

Its portion sizes is pretty small, especially non chicken. For example, the lamb shank, only one small size meat. Normally if u go to a food court, for example the one under Myer Sydney CBD, about $12 for a lame/steak with veggies. And the size of the meat is at least 3 times of the shank size. So I think $6 is a fair price as the delivery is free.
I pick up youfoodz is because it’s convenient for weekdays, 2 minutes microwave and it’s served. Another reason is the portion size is good for me. I am a guy can eat less or more and I don’t want to overeat. Of course the price with discount is another reason. I already made two orders and am willing to order more if they keep providing discount.

    • +3

They are heavily discounting to lift their volume to on-sell the business.

      • Is he selling up? I would be shocked if he did.

      • +1

I’m friends with the people who used to own lite n’ easy back in the 90’s.

The exact same playbook. Heavy marketing, build up customer base, then sell.

        • now that i think about it…how is youfoodz different to lite and easy lol
          other than marketing

i suppose the food tastes fresher and better and healthier

    • +1

I noticed they sell Youfoodz meals at my local Aldi (@ $8.95 a meal), am guessing there's a fair few sales because of that.

    • They’re probably not making any profit but rather trying to increase market share.

    • +16

I think the meals are garbage to be honest. Worth about what I paid.

Meh. This comes up every Youfoodz post:

Have ordered 13+ times from them.

      IMO:

      Taste 8/10
Delivery, convenience and communication via notifications 10/10
Sizing 6/10 (but now offer XL as an option)
      Variety 8/10
      Healthy/Fresh 9/10
Depends on which of these you value most, but for me and wife, they've been a great option and timesaver.

Protip: These can also be halved servings for kids. 1 meal can be /2 for my 4yo and 7yo. The bolognese, wraps, as well as the Schnity w' chips are a favourite with the kids.

      • +1

Agreed! i have tried most of the already made meals both here and in uk and these taste the best by far and i even buy them at full price when i feel like one which i dont do with anything else.

      • Yep. We find we’ve always got a few youfoodz in the fridge. When you run out of time, or misplanned the night, the kids (13 and 10) love being able to make a choice and have a decent meal.

I’d prefer them eating youfoodz to a boring pasta dish.

    • +2

They used to be fantastic, but after recently finding plastic inside my meal and the overall flavour and nutritional value not being what it once was, I'm now looking at other options, even if they cost a bit more.

      • +4

good point, can you comment on my comment below? I also started to notice more additives and weird numbers being added to a lot of the meals

Really recommend you guys check each meal ingredients and saturated fat and sodium (salt) content..Some of them are pretty scary and a couple of them are good but getting harder and harder to find

A good one is Healthy Chicken pot I think or the roast and 3 gravy

  • -2

Got mine today, haven't checked out ingredients yet and how long is the before date etc. If it's full of numbers and additives etc. Then it's a no go, thanks but I'd rather cook then hit the early grave 👍

    • +8

keep an eye on this, when I first ordered there were very few meals with numbers and additives but now it seems pretty common in almost all of them.

I Mean their whole promo pitch was that it was cooked fresh and is healthy

    • Saying these meals have numbers and additives is a vague, baseless claim based on fear and non-science.

  • +4

Interesting to see the XL portions. But that full price of $12.95 is a bit over the top.

May as well eat out and get a decent meal for that price.

    • +2

I agree, but they listened to the feedback (they had a feedback survey via email) and I voted for larger meals and it seems they listened.

I work in a warehouse and there's no cafes around or anything to buy. I take pre-cooked meals from youfoodz for lunch and youfoodz doesn't fill me up. Hopefully these larger meals, 30% more is enough to fill me enough.

      • That's why I always add a small container of pasta or rice with youfoodz.

  • +11

Some of the meals are starting to scare me: In terms of salt or saturated fat in some of them…

Not to mention the random additives or emuslifers. From my understanding of food laws in Australia anything under 1% doesnt even have to be added to the label

    Example 1)

Sounds like you've had a run-in with Tightarse.

        • or a workplace scab…

Wow hahah what a classic Boomer rant.

How did you go from ingredients in Youfoodz to the sexuality of a minority population group? Wild.

      • +3

a truly postmodernist take on early 21st century australia and its head-on collision with internet culture
the deft sidestep of ozbargain's inbuilt censoring and 4 handclap emojis symbolizing each of his 4 grievances in this rant which covers all the hot topics in society today
you might be downvoting this now but 20 years down the line your kids will be analyzing this in their HSC english exams

    • Yeah some meals have nearly 3 times the recommended daily intake of sodium last time I checked. And they are adding a lot of crap to their meals now too, but you can still find some healthy ones but they are getting less and less.

  • anyone tried the XL yet?

  • +1

This seems like normal price now.

It only worths at that price actually

  • To me, the normal portions are fine for me, especially the lunch meals. But they do recommend snacking between the meals.

Also, they make money from their supermarket chains. IGA always had few left.

    • We're supposed to eat small meals and then snack in between.. Sitting down to a mountain of food is bad.

      • Also 1 line in a large packet KitKat is 1 serving……. WHAT!? I usually eat the whole thing lol

        • Yep same hahaha

  • Thanks OP. Haven't had YouFoodz in a while, keen to try some of their new ones.

  • Thnaks OP. Instead of grabbing a whole bunch of frozen meals, I opted heaps of snacks just to try.

    • +10

      The meals aren't frozen dude.

  • XL increased from $10.95 to $11.95

    • Agreed, I looked yesterday or the day before and they were on sale for $10.95 and then today they’re $11.95

  • thanks for sharing

  • +1

Yeah my local IGA is always sold out in the fridge cabinet at full price.

    • Same! Always sold out, there aren’t any other alternatives except for Lasagne or lean cuisine “fast food” style frozen food packs.

      Nothing fresh.

  • I only order them at discounted prices. Seems right for the portion size. Just grabbed 8 meals this one as well and 2 weeks of meal prep sorted!. I noticed “Honey” plugin on my browser too applied the same code.

    Cheers!

    • been hesitant to try Honey plugin

is it just harvesting your data in the background?

      • I have zero idea tbh. I hope thats not the case.

Received sms for SOSORRY delivery tomorrow. Also bought this deal as I feel SOSORRY for taking SOSORRY deal without eligible being SOSORR discount.

  • +1

I’m actually worried to order again. I ordered the “Best of 2018” ones and I must say, if those were the best, that’s not promising at all. The only one I liked was the Fried Chicken and gravy. the pizza was shit and the idea of $10 for two small slices is kind of insane, must prefer to buy a frozen pizza. I didn’t mind the clean chicken, except half the pack was broccoli. Sooooo much broccoli. The spring lasagne was revolting. I got two bites in. :(

    • I nearly tried 75% of the menu. IMO, the ones I really loved were not in the best of 2018 category except for the brownie. The brownie is amazing, doesn't taste like a protein bar at all.

My favourite is the beef lasagne. I usually get 3+ with every order lol.

      • +2

ive been sticking to the lemon pepper chicken, YF fried chicken, carbonara and pearl pastas and recently tried the lamb shanks based on the comments here (it was really good, though not everyone likes the sweetness)

been hesitant on the lasagne cause it seems poor value. I might give it a try if it tastes that good

        Does it freeze well?

      • Sweet! I’m hoping those were just not to my tastebud liking. But seeing as I have the $50 voucher from last week, I’ll give some other a go :)

  • Anyone have any idea which means freeze best?

  • The offer i got is only $20 off - with the same code :( it asked me to sign up as new customer first, so I guess that was my mistake.

    • Definitely the same code? It wasn't XMASGIFT code instead? That one is $20 off.

  • expired!
Put items in basket last night and code worked ok. tried to pay order this morning, noticed cost of some meal had gone down so added extra meal to get to $75

    Apply Discount Code:

This code did not match any active gift card or discount. Was it entered correctly?

Yes, it was entered correctly. I checked the flyer and it does say "expires 6 Dec", apparently expires when 6 Dec kicks in.

  • Confirmed expired. I jumped onto chat, ordered $71 worth and they refunded me $30.

  • Somehow it worked for me.
No issue with putting the code and finalising with payment. :D

    i guess i am lucky?

ordered 8 meals from the discounted list, so $5.2 per meal.
