Velocity Points for Virgin Gift Card

Hi everyone, I am new here. I recently applied for ANZ rewards travel adventures credit card and earned 80000 velocity points. I am planning to spend my points in redeeming an international flight to Hong Kong in earlier next year. I am confuse on how should I spend it to get my return flight.

According to virgin website, to redeem a return flight from Melbourne to Hong Kong requires around 95000-110000 velocity points. The ticket are now on sale at around $470-530.

If I use my velocity points to redeem virgin gift card (8300 points = $50 gift card),
it will cost me 83000 points to get $500 virgin gift card. Can I then use these gift card to book my flight? or are there anything else I need to be aware of?

Regards,

ALex

are there anything else I need to be aware of?

Yes, by the time you receive the giftcards, the flights may not be on sale for that cheap price anymore.

    • Alright thanks mate!

Alex, the points are always more valuable redeeming for business class flights. If in doubt sell them on the classifieds and get cash

    • I get it now, its more valuable to redeem business class. I've read other posts saying that people sell their points and had their account banned. I will consider to redeem for business class. Thanks mate

I don't know how you got the 90k-110k number OP.
Because a return economy reward flight from MEL-HKG is 55600(x2 for business reward) points + $165 taxes.
So you could go on business class for 110k points

Never use points and pay because you get a very bad exchange rate, always get reward flights.

And I agree, classified sell is better than gift cards, however, I've read that they are tracking down these transactions. and banning accounts.

    • Yes its 55600 point + taxes for return flight. I was looking at the points and pay so I can pay with points for the taxes. and yes I guess the exchange rate are bad. Thanks for helping mate.
