[QLD] 2,500 Free Doughnuts from Doughnut Time at Queen Street Mall, Brisbane

520

Apparently Doughnut Time is back under new management, and they're giving away 2,500 doughnuts tomorrow to mark the opening of 2 new Queensland stores. I hope the staff are paid properly this time around.

I hope the management treats it's contract delivery drivers better! The pricks expected ME to WAIT in line for my doughnuts (as part of a delivery order)!

Nevermind I had a business to run and was delivering doughnuts THEIR customers paid for an hour ago and wanted NOW!

I vowed never to eat another one of their doughnut's after I saw their kitchen filled with overseas students. Flour scattered all over the floor, butter melting in the summer sun outside so it'd become soft. Flies blowing in and out of the place like it was the USS Nimitz. No thanks…

There goes my Youfoodz dinner I was about to have!

    • +1

mmmm sun softened butter… the natural way

  • +1

So did someone buy them out, all the stores I knew off closed months ago?

    • +3

Yes new owner bought the naming rights and branding. Not associated in any way to previous owners

      • +1

Why on earth would you want to buy the naming rights to something with such a sht reputation? Hopefully they haven’t bought the $7 price tag attached to the donuts.

        • +1

Donut prices will still be high according to the FAQ, and it sounds like they are proud of this, which they justify by the high quality ingredients and the hand made and fresh nature of each donut.

@Crownanchor: LMAO! I can assure you they are anything but!

          • +4

@Crownanchor: The way the doughnuts are presented is exceptional, but I think the doughnut underneath is pretty uninspiring.

            • @bxpressiv: I agree with both comments above.

Its quite like the high quality ingredients in burgers, where Burger Project and Royal Stacks are not much better than your corner burger shop with lower quality ingredients, maybe we can learn something here, and how Grill'd is a much better taste with the grass fed beef.

You have got to wonder if the business plan of Doughnut Time is to sell a $7 item because $7 is perceived to be a price point that more people buy.

@Crownanchor: I’ve only ever purchased one and honestly, the actual donut tasted no better than a Coles one.

What we really could do with is a Mister Donuts like they have in Japan. These aren’t overly sweet (like everything here), are cheap (double the price to account for our extra costs and they’d still be worth it) and they have a great range (other than just 10 kinds of sweet). Oh well, hopefully owners treat their staff appropriately.

  • Also Burleigh Heads opens on December 1st. Not sure if there will also be free donuts.

    • Free donuts between 10am to 11am at Burleigh tomorrow.

  • nearby what store ?

Those in Townsville are happy for the heads up! :D

  • Is there a time for when they'll start?

    • 11am to 1pm, or while stocks last.

  • A lot of people complaining about the doughnuts but honestly a lot of doughnut places are bad.

Doughnut time had good topping/filling ideas with a lot more toppings/fillings then competitors.

What let them down the most is the dough used to make the doughnut and some of their fillings are too sugary.

Maybe the new owners will improve on it.

My first and last one was from Donut Time East Brisbane. I would describe their dough as sugar let to set in a donut mould.

  • You want a legit awesome doughnut, hit up Byron Bay organic doughnuts at any of the several Byron music festivals each year. I’m sure they appear elsewhere too. Amazing. Go the chocolate ones. Warm, fresh, soft and fluffy, with a melted chocolate centre.

    • +2

Slap anything with an "organic" name and the (profanity) in Byron Bay will eat it up.

      • +1

Pretty much. I couldn’t care less sbout the organic part. They are still junk food but if you’re gonna have some junk food it may as well be bloody delicious junk food.

Doughnut Time was shit. So glad they closed down when everybody found out how shit they were.

  • +3

I'll be surprised if they can stay open longer than 6 months. People try em once for novelty and an insta pic and then quickly realise how crap they are. I'm still gonna pick up a free doughnut tomorrow though

    • +2

      My thoughts exactly.

I'll stick to a good old Krispy Kreme when they are $2 at 7/11. Consistently good, and light/small enough that I don't feel a heart attack coming on after eating one.

I think the only other time I tried doughnut time was when I had a free $10 credit for some reason.

  • Tell me they really count the production limit strictly to 2,500 doughnuts on the dot …..

  • Walked past randomly and grabbed one. It was just frosted? I thought it would be the indulgent ones they used to have! Or was I just unlucky?

    • +1

You were unlucky. A lady I saw there had something that looked like a jam ball style and I got an iced one with mini M&Ms on top,so I guess they had a variety. Still not overly exciting…

      • Was the dough of the doughnut improved from the old recipe?
