Hello friends,
I am newbie/Student in Sydney. I am looking to buy a computer desk from ebay or gumtree but almost all of them offer 'Pick up' only service. For the item of 20-30 AUD hiring the removals for delivery is not an good option :( Can you please suggest me best option here?

Ask the seller if they are able to deliver it for you for an additional fee. Some may not be able to, but I have seen a few ebay listings where the seller has offered to deliver the item for a small fee to cover fuel costs etc. No harm in asking, especially if the seller is close by.
Bamboo is right. Some will deliver it for an extra $10-15.
Otherwise you could do a deal with one of the "movers" on gumtree. They just use their own vans and charge reasonably. I used one of them for my desk and they charged me $20. (approx 10km away) He even paid the person he collected it from for me, and I just paid him what the item cost when he dropped it off.
why not just buy a table from officeworks? you can get some pretty good desks. They come flat packed and you put them together yourself.
Otherwise i'd just put the word out that you're looking for a desk.

a) Buy something close to home… like within 200 metres or so.
b) Hang around in carparks near pubs, building sites, etc. Identify people who own work vans, make sure that the van is empty most of the time, and then make friends with them.
