Stake is an Aussie Fintech which allows to trade more than 3000 stocks and ETFs on the S&P500 and Nasdaq for free. There is no brokerage.

They make their money mainly by charging 70 pips when converting funds between AUD & USD ($0.7 for every $100 converted) but have a few other fees outlined here.

Been using them for over a year now (since their beta days) and reckon their offer unbeatable value as well as great UI and UX

They have (finally) launched their android app and running a one day referral promo to 'celebrate':

        Funds get sent directly to the US via OFX. Can fund up to $10,000. There is a 2% (min $1USD) fee on all card transfers and an additional 0.5% for express funding.

                Wish you were a bit more specific the first time. I ended up doing a bank transfer like you said and didn't get any confirmation. POLI method is not the same as the bank transfer method… I did think it was unusual to get a confirmation that quickly via bank transfer.

      There may be a minimum purchase for the 1st time you buy a stock like the ASX does. $500 for 1st-time share buyer.

        Minimum stock purchase is US$10. You can buy $10 worth of a stock and you get a fraction of that share.

    Just use a referral link from the ozbargain system for Self Wealth, and get 5 free trades, after which each trade is only $10.
    UI is great there as well.

      SelfWealth's free trades expire after a month.

      Stake's free brokerage allows you to jump out of stocks in the future without incurring brokerage costs.

      Also SelfWealth is for Australian shares? While Stake is for selected internationals.

      Selfwealth is for ASX listed stocks only

      Stake is for 3000 stocks and ETFs listed in the US (and the US only at this stage). No ASX

      Also, all trading is conducted in USD and your Australian dollars must be converted to USD before you can trade. They also need to be converted back from USD to AUD before you can cash out.

      The company makes their money from these currency conversions
