Help with Building a Gaming Computer!

Hey guys, I’m a noob when it comes to this. I’ve been longing to build a gaming PC and need guidance on what specific parts I should really get to match my needs.

I’m not that of a heavy gamer, and probably will play games such as PUBG, dying light, dayZ or something similar to this. Then basically just using it for multi tasking tasks.

I would want to use it as a dual screen monitor too, with one of it as a high resolution screen (maybe close to 4k? Or less)

I’ve been looking at reviews and asking some friends. They’re saying different things for my needs such as i5-7600k is sufficient but get i7 for future proof. Then GTX1050/60 is good but 1070 can do more. So I’m quite confused!

I’m in no rush and would want to buy parts piece by piece with discounts.

My budget is around the 2k mark.

Any help/tips/guides would be useful and advance thanks!

  • The thing that most people don't know about building a gaming rig, is that you start with the monitor and then build from the ground up to suit that.

Try to get your hands on a 1440p/165hz/IPS/G-Sync panel such as the Asus PG279Q or the Acer XB271HU monitors.

Look into getting an 8th-gen i5 - such as the i5 8400(or i5 8600k if you're comfortable with overclocking and getting a legit cooler), pair that with a 1070/1070ti/1080 and you will get an amazing build that delivers supreme performance now and into the future. Don't forget an adequate sized SSD(256GB?) as the boot drive with a 2/4 TB HDD as the backup drive.

    • Thanks will have a look. Now I'm looking at i5 8600k or 9600k! But I have missed the sales. And it seems like either 1070/1070ti would be my option too.

  • -1

Get it from techfast, easy and cheap.

    • Is that the pre-built ones? I would want one in the box for some reason.

  • GTX 1050 is only if you are building a SFF prebuilt Dell or something otherwise it will do 720p high settings most games fine.

GTX 1060 is good if all you need is 1080p high settings in all games.

GTX 1070 is good if you going above 1080p otherwise just get the cheapest between the two (I have found 1070's within $50 of 1060's on gumtree which is a good deal if it works).

Yeah if you going higher than 1080p then the top tier cards make more sense unless you only playing static games with not much need for fps otherwise a 1060 is fine.

Cpu wise its up to you how much you want to pay for but the sweet spot is the i5-8400 or i5-7600.

If you multitasking go Ryzen 5 2600 the current best value best performance bang for buck cpu out now only few percentage points behind Intel for gaming but the savings is huge and it does better at productivity stuff and multitasking well multi threading more specifically.

Honestly it just depends if you wanna play some just newly released games at beautiful settings (battlefield v for example will kill your computer if you try ray tracing at 4K max settings).

    Personally I would build a 1080ti i5-8400 32gb machine now if I had $2000 this doesn't even include the 4K monitor.

    • I might look at 1070/1070ti with i5 8600k/9600k - I'm not familiar with Ryzen however, so might look at it as well.
      What monitors do you suggest?

      • Sorry I am still a total noob at picking monitors. Best to just Google or YouTube that.

  • Hey guys, another question:

I'm looking towards buying this towers.

    Mid size
    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/43607/phanteks-enthoo-ev…

    Micro tower
    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/39079/phanteks-enthoo-ev…

For the micro tower, is there any way the stuffs that I would buy won't fit all inside there?

    • The Micro Tower only fits micro and Mini-ATX boards, while the former fits most ATX motherboards.

The Micro tower only takes up to 4 drives, two of which will have to be 2.5" inch drives, while the bigger cousin can take more than double the capacity.

      • Thanks for this. I bought the mATX. I need to look after the motherboard that I will buy then.
