2mm think cardboard/box

I'm looking for somewhere I can get 2mm thick cardboard (or a box) so I can cut it and fold it into a small box for something I'm making.

Where could I get this?

Packing boxes won't work as that cardboard is much thicker (around 5mm?)

I need something thin enough so it's not a big problem to cut/fold, but think enough so it won't get damaged easily, I came up with 2mm by looking at some other boxes I have but unfortunately nothing I can spare for this project.

  • Try aldi fruit boxes or look at supermarket bins

    • That's what I originally thought of, but from what I can remember from every time I have checked in the past, they all use the thicker cardboard (around 5mm) which would be too thick for what I want :(

  • just having a look around me

    What you should look for
Shoe Boxes (especially Adidas, Nike, Converse(Chucks), Puma)
    Back of Spirax Books(very impracticable)
  • I know it's not free, but your local newsies should have cardstock in different weights. Avoid craftstores cuz they can cost 300% more. (for plain cardstock)

  • If you have any old boxes for things like cameras, phones or iPods they'd probably be about right. Same goes for some board game boxes.

  • You're right about what you're saying about packing boxes. What you could use is the inners to either cosmetics or fine chocolate packaging which is roughly the same thickness as you want. The key is: the more profitable the item in the packaging, the more room to move on the packaging. So the world's crappiest cardboard is found on the world's cheapest products. Go for the more expensive ones. Your local (large) supermarket is likely to have more high-end items, and probably fills at night, so it may be worth a visit then. Most supermarkets are happy for you to take as many boxes, or parts thereof as you want, because it mans less work for them.

  • Try your local pharmacy. They are always receiving stock which come in a variety of boxes.
