"Don’t be limited by a power adapter"

Conversely we might say: Don't sacrifice sound quality by using noisy 5V supplies from computers.

    • What if you use a powered usb hub? Would that get rid of the noise problem?

      • then that means you are still using external power…..

    • Don't sacrifice sound quality by using noisy 5V supplies from computers.

I converted my speakers to run on USB power because I was sick of the big power adapter and there was no extra noise or worse sound quality once I did this.

The speakers are not as loud as they used to be but that is the only thing which changed.

If you want to convert your current speakers to USB it is very easy to do.

My two sets of Logitech Z5s would definitely beg to differ on that one! ;)

    • It's not so much sound quality that is affected, but the maximum output the speakers can produce.

It could be don't limit your sound quality ?

  • How do the z5s compare to logitech v20 - not sure if z5 still current?

    • You can still get z5's at tricky dickies (DSE) & LTS, but last time I saw them they were full price @ $99.

I haven't heard the v20, but let me tell you the z5's have very nice sound, quite decent volume & terrific bass for smallish USB powered speakers (IIRC each has a mini down-firing sub), I was very impressed! To test I hooked them up to my HTPC first & I had to check that my main sub was completely powered off at one point, I didn't expect that level of LFE from the little blighters! :o

It didn't hurt that the local Kmart was selling them for $49 at one stage, then the last two sets were late-night markdowns to $25 - they left with me promptly at that price! :)

The only downside, I can't get the remote to work on any PC running Win7 x64…drivers, fiddling with services, nothing works…shame on Logitech for not fixing this actually, they've known about it for years!
