Landscapping in Werrington

So i had a site inspection from one of the handyman to do landscapping job for my backyard (~60sqm).

The guy quote me,

  1. if i want to just replace the whole thing with grass, it will be $4000
  2. if i want to build a pathway using stepping stone and just leave grass on the other side he quote me $13000
  3. if i want to pave the entire backyard, it will be $15000

and also afterwards, he said cash!!!
he said if i want invoice it will be more expensive.

I feel like this guy is trying to fool me, so i said to him ok, send me the actual proper quote first and i will decide which one to go.
and he never send me anything.
so i want to ask you all, if i want to reno my backyard (just a simple one) how much budget should i be preparing?
Im asking this, because i never done this before

    it will be $15000

    $250 sqm. That is fair amount to pay for labouring work. It must be a special one-of-a-kind mosaic art piece.

    not really though, its just a simple design. just paving the whole block and perhaps put 2m x 1m garden bed for planting herbs.
    and yet he quote me $15000 cash!
    is it normal for nowadays to do this by cash?

      $250 sqm in cash is a rip-off.

    Are you young?

    Do the grass yourself. Get some friends over to help. Order top soil & level it to a few cm thick (depending on existing soil & which turf) and the roll the turf out. It will take you the day but worth it.

      Work out what you'd be essentially paying yourself per hour to do the work diy.
      Hire the right equipment if need be, and give it a shot

      The materials aren't that expensive and it's nothing a few YouTube videos can't show you how to do.

        If no digging is required or retaining walls to be constructed. All op will need is a shovel, wheelbarrow and a level.

        Did the same thing you said and quickly went on YouTube for more info. After getting quotes I said no way.

    In what condition is the yard now? If it is in good condition with good soil just lay the grass yourself. Turf from bunnings is about $10 per square metre so it would cost approx $600 plus half a day of your time.
