Tips For Getting Cheap Anytime or Goodlife Gym Memberships

Anyone have any tips on how to secure a gym membership for Anytime or Goodlife at a decent price?

My current membership with Anytime fitness has expired (was paying $11 per week). However, as it was an old membership I signed up for in Adelaide before moving to Melbourne, the Anytime Fitness near my place will not consider matching it.

Goodlife near my place is offering $18 per week. However, I only get access to that branch. They don't offer a cheaper deal for paying a year in advance, which I am more than happy to do.

Only considering the above 2 places as they are near to my place.

  • find a local facebook group that does guest pass swaps and/or transfer of peoples memberships that are moving away/not using them anymore.

    • Good idea, but unfortunately that's not going to work for me. Work reimburses a portion of the membership. But I would need the original contract to have the amount reimbursed.

      • I got a member to transfer their membership to me to my local gym and I had to sign a contract that had the amount.. i claimed my health insurer on it too

        • How do you claim gum membership on health insurance?

      • see if work will let you buy your own gym equipment and re-reimburse. Can then return to place of purchase

  • Casually inform the gym manager that your presence will increase their female memberships twofold so they can watch you work out.

    • Instantly banned from that entire chain of gyms…

Well of course that would happen to you, who'd believe it? RyanMK, on the other hand, is one of the most beautiful men in the cosmos.

        • Fair enough, that is true. I was indeed mistakenly using a normal mortal's standard when assessing RyanMK's chances.

Have you cancelled your Adelaide membership? If not just go to the gym in Melbourne using your Adelaide membership as after a month or two your account will automatically be transferred to the gym you are going to with no changes. This is how it was explained to me a couple of weeks ago.

    • No, I didn't cancel my Adelaide membership. After I moved to Melbourne and started visiting the local Anytime fitness, my gym membership was automatically transferred to the Melbourne branch (as you described).

However, the membership has now expired (I paid a year upfront). And the Melbourne branch have said they are not able to match or come close to what I was previously paying :(

      • I go to a chain gym and my membership has expired and I continue to pay the same amount while I was on contract

I think OP pre-paid rather than locked into a contract. So at the end of the prepaid period, the membership was over as opposed to becoming month to month (or week to week).

Just go surfing and make love nightly. I cannot believe healthy individuals PAY to simulate manual labour.

      and make love nightly.

I think you're far underestimating the costs (and possible costs) of this.

  • Sometimes random goodlife centres have a sale where it can go lower (like $14/week) if you pay a year in advance (sometimes 18months) and includes access at all centres.

Do the googling and the calling then drive to whichever centre you find offers this

  • Ring up Adelaide gym to sign you up again

    • Nah, I've tried. As my membership has been transferred to the Melbourne branch, they can't sign me up again.

  • So far, the Anytime fitness South Melbourne (branch I transferred to) is offering me $700 for 12 months up front, which works out to $13.50 a week.

Goodlife is offering $14.85 per week, locked in for 18 months. However, I am able to visit that branch only (which I don't mind).

I'm leaning towards Goodlife as although it is $72 more expensive per year, I am not paying a lump sum up front. Will still try and see if either is happy to lower it further when I visit in person.
