Vicroads L to Green Ps Drive Test at Bundoora - Advice, Tips, etc

I've booked myself in for a L to Ps Drive Exam in 2 weeks time.

Has anyone here done their VIC Driving Test at the Bundoora centre? What was your experience?

    Advice, Tips

    Follow the road rules.

Make sure you follow the round about rules. Lots of people fail on round abouts and not giving way at give way signs. Perform exaggerated head checks. Make sure that the person performing the test notices you doing checks.

Hope you did your lessons with someone familiar with Bundoora and that you are familiar with the speeds, roundabouts around the area.

There is a roundabout with weird lanes….make sure you stay within the correct lane as you go through it. EXAGGERATED head checks! I did what I thought were exaggerated head checks and got told at the end I needed to perform more noticable head checks. Go figure.

I found talking aloud through my "decision making" seemed to put the tester at ease…(she had a trainee tester in the car also.

I found the second half easier as you were on main roads at "normal" speed in traffic.

    Good luck

    • Thanks for the tip. I will definitely ask my instructor about that roundabout.

If you havent used a paid driving instructor start following them and people doing their P's test to get a rough idea of where they go - also make sure you can 3 point turn and parallel park

    • 3 point shouldn't be too hard, gotta make sure I nail the parallel parking especially the distance from the curb.

Use a driving instructor and get them to give you a mock test so you're familiar with the circuit

Have a lengthy drive a day or two before the test with an instructor in the Bundoora testing circuit - being familiar with the roads will make it infinitely easier.

Make sure your reverse parallel park is up to scratch - f*^king that up has caused many fails.

As a couple of posters have mentioned, EXAGGERATE head checks to the nth degree - pretend you have no peripheral vision and rotate your head like an owl before changing lanes etc. I passed with flying colours and the only note I got was "Utilize head checks more frequently and to a greater degree" despite exaggerating head checks wildly and frequently.

Noted, thanks! I'm planing to do at least two hours there tomorrow. Just getting there is an hours drive…

  • Follow the road rules, get familiar with the roads.

dont overspeed!, dont hit the curb!, Stop at stop sign for 3 seconds and count it out loud!, parallel parking (you can take your time, just make sure to not hit the curb)! im pretty sure the ones i listed are instant fail if you do any of them.

Head check and indicators, drive 5 below the speedlimit, dont look at your phone or even touch it, listen to what the instructor says, and if you didnt catch it the 1st time, ask them. try to relax and just take it steady.

  • I did mine at Bundoora and found it easy because I drove around the area a lot so was experienced and knowledgeable of the roads there. It would be good to go through a practice test with an instructor to get a feel of what it's like, especially with a parallel park.

I know you already booked your test but I would always advise to book outside of school zone times because if you go over the limit in a school zone at all it's an automatic fail. I just drove 5 km under any limit anyway to be safe. Make sure you come to a complete stop at STOP signs otherwise that's also an automatic fail. As others have said, my only area of improvement was to do more head checks so really exaggerate them!

    • I got a 1pm test so that's not too bad. Had I not booked in I would've needed to resit the HPT.
