Current benchmark TV?

Hey
I need new 4K tv but Black Friday sales made me realise I dont know all the TV spec jargon of latest TV tech.

Can somone list the main specs required in a top notch 4k TV or is there a TV out there that all TV's are measured against as the industry benchmark?

Am I right in thinking the current benchmark is an OLED 4k HDR?

There is no such thing as a bench mark TV. It's like you are asking for a bench mark car. Where do you start? Bench mark for lower end TV? Bench mark for Mid-range TV? Bench mark for high end TV?

You should just tell us your budget and we figure out the best TV for your budget.

  • I wanted something upto $2k but can go up to $3k if the extra specs are worth it.

My issue is trying to understand what the "base" specs are these days compared to the "top end" specs.

  • OLED is definitely the newest and latest. It will eventually replace LED but it's still very expensive at the moment. I would say LED is still the base spec but not for long.

4K is pretty much the standard these days. Even though the 4K content is still lacking.

All you have left is decide what size and how fast the TV is.

    • oled is never going to replace led due to burn in. heavy gamers can't use oled, computer monitors can't use oled. microled will do the replacing.

      • We are talking about TVs here not monitors. I agree on the OLED burn in issues on monitors but household TVs are not going to be used in similar ways. They will probably resolve that burn in issue eventually anyway.

        • burn in cannot be resolved, its a limitation of the materials they use. trying to resolve it is like trying to make a CRT as thin as LED. oled are the new plasmas, they will be replaced when microled are available for a similar price.

The OLED burn in issues are really not much to worry about for normal household usage.

            • @DarkOz: wow thats very surprising, different games have different burn in rates and the cod barely has any problems at 5.3k hours. wish i knew this when i bought my tv, i mostly game on my pc anyway. might get an oled when i have more money.
