How much better is OLED black levels?

i bought a q6 in august for $2k, now im seeing cheapest oled being $1.7k-1.8k. i really regret my q6 purchase, i was scared of burn ins and bought in to the color hyper. but then when i used it the black levels are ATROCIOUS, its no better than my u2711 monitor with ccfl backlighting. the local dimming is also completely screwed up, light scenes fade a lot when the other half of screen is dark, the problem is u CANT TURN IT OFF. i only looked at oleds in store where its very bright so it didn't look too impressive. black levels are very important to me, im thinking about dropping another one on oled, is it very impressive next to a q6?

Literally the prime selling point of OLEDS are that their 'backlighting' is on a per-pixel basis. IE perfect black levels.

Go into a store and pay attention to scenes with dark spots on an OLED.

    • Do you have to focus on the dark spots of the image to notice a difference in a well lit environment?

      • you only need to put a lcd tv beside oled to notice the difference in whatever environment

    Difference is black and grey

  • This much.

Yep. The 'local' dimming on the vast majority of LCD's is a complete scam. The resolution of the backlight can be as low as ~3x3. The worst part is that most manufacturers refuse to reveal exactly how many dimming zones they use. All it does is cause weird distracting blooming effects and artifacts. Best turning it off if you can.

In a completely dark room you will be blown away by the black levels of OLED. The blackness is infinitely darker.

What about dynamic ones ingame if any games dimming as a way as to ensure better contrast somehow?

I'm not sure I can parse your comment - but if I'm reading you correctly, black levels are a hardware issue. You can't duplicate the same effect through software.

  • Agree with everyone here. They are amazing.Went in to buy the Ozbargain TV (Hisense)and left with an LG Oled. Probably nine months ago and I still find myself being amazed at the picture.

    • How do you find watching Free tv program on LG OLED?

      • Mate, I'm not one of these guys who sits and studies the picture differences for each channel etc sorry. But for me, the picture is fantastic and the remote is great.
