Health insurance for visitor (visa subclass 600): which one is the best?

Hi everyone,

My mother in law would come in next week. I did research on Ozbargain, I found that Allianz and Bupa people mentioned a lot about them, how your experience when you claim?

Apart from 2 companies above, which one you purchase before and have good experience, in terms of fee and claim?

Thanks

What claim will mother in law be making?

Not claiming anything. I mean for visitors, I should always purchase health insurance, especially my mother in law is 66 years old. Who knows what happen in future? :)

But hope for the best, prepare for the worst, that means I should prepare something can happen and it comes to the time I need to claim.

The local insurance is usually expensive. If the visitor is healthy (yeah i know we cant predict the future) then taking the origin country travel insurance is cheaper.

  • Look at Bupa visitor visa cover. About 100/- per person per month

Have a look at HIF too. I've found them to be one of the cheaper ones but are reasonably generous on what they cover and the limits. My MIL was here for a few months (and a couple of years ago as well) on a 600 visa and I spent quite a lot of time researching it and ended up going with HIF both times.

    • That's the first option I looking at. But unfortunately HIF only cover people under 65 years old. My MIL is 66.

We got health insurance for my Auntie who is here from overseas for 12 months with a 600 visa. She's 80 years old and we went with Allianz at $1349 (cheapest).

We had HCF when our in laws visited. It was the cheapest (less than $25 pw for a couple) and their claiming process was pretty straightforward.

    • My mother in law and her sister visit me, can I declare them as a couple? Sorry if I understand incorrectly.

I can't remember what their policy was. You can try applying for the cover online and add two people to the same cover and see how the prices go. I don't think that you have to be an actual couple to have the joint cover, but I could be wrong.
