Can i ask for a refund from ebay seller if item is faulty ?

Hi fellas,
Just looking for an advise on below:

I recently bought a TP-Link Vr600v AC1600 Modem Router from Wireless1 ebay store.

Immediately after receiving the item i found that it is dropping connection multiple times a day and lodged a return request via ebay within a couple of days.

Issue i was having with the product was that the internet dropping out multiple times a day. The internet light on the router disappearing.

I came to conclusion that the product is faulty, As i put back my my old modem router online and wasn't facing any such issues.

I also tried resetting the device multiple times and faced the same problem after re-configuring it.

Now i have been advised by seller to obtain an Case/RMA number from the tp-link support and then they will replace the product.

I have lodged a request with tp-link support for Case ID / RMA number.

My issue is that if i'd have bought it from one of the physical stores, i could have easily returned it for a refund without any issues.

I am not satisfied in this product, it will also be a waste of time if i get another device with similar issues and end up returning it as well.

Can someone please advise if i can push for a refund as i never had to return anything before on ebay and not familiar with consumer laws.

Thanks for your help.

    • i think the beta firmware is only available for VR600 and not VR600V. can you link to the one you are talking about.

I have returned faulty TP-Link products to Wireless1 before. It was actually pretty simple.

    1. Talk to TP-Link on webchat and obtain RMA number
    2. Print out all the details they gave you and then optionally call the store about the RMA and that you have an RMA number
    3. The store will replace your product pretty much on the spot for you. Or you might get a refund, YMMV.

In my case I actually just went to Parramatta myself and went to their physical showroom to do the exchange. You'll probably have to ship yours back.

As for a refund, if this is eBay and you have eBay Plus, you also get free returns, where your shipping is reimbursed by eBay themselves.

    • Thanks for the info.

I had ebay Plus trial when i purhased this item (still have few months left).

Clicking on the item from view order details page is showing that the item is ebay plus item.

ebay help sayd: To start a return, simply go to your Purchase history and select Return this item, then choose the reason you're returning it.

When i selected return item option i didn't get any such prompt and got a message instead that seller will get back to me within 3 days.

I am also not sure how to go about printing the return label etc as i am unable to find that option anywhere.

      • Hmm. Yeah I'm not sure where you normally go to print a return label.

There's also Paypal Paid returns, which is separate of eBay Plus and is an option that anyone can use even if they bought an item that is not 'Plus'. You could try that if that is easier.

Don't mess around with RMA's etc. Just lodge an INAD case with EBay and get a full refund.

This, it is against the ACL for them to make you go to TP Link first.

  • Thanks for reply everyone, i will talk to seller about refund as soon as i hear from tp-link support.

  • not familiar with consumer laws.

  • Thanks all for taking time to reply to this thread. I have received an rma number and will deal with seller now to obtain a refund.
