Domino's downsized again??

Hey all,

Had Domino's last night for the first time in a few months as my local independent pizza shop is closed for the week,so when i picked up my pizza i thought the box looked smaller then usual then i opened the lid and the first thing i thought was 'is it cold in here? because i'm seeing some serious shrinkage!'

So have they downsized yet again or am i seeing things because i got used to having proper size large pizza's?

  • depends on the store

had some shockers but the one i frequent now is quite generous

'is it cold in here? because i'm seeing some serious shrinkage!'

      That's what she said.

      • Morning glory would help here.

Should take a photo and post them here. Personally I haven't had Domino's for a while but I think the quality might vary quite widely depending on which Domino's franchise, and who is the shop manager on that day. So do include where got the pizza from if you are posting a photo.

  • Yeah I got Dominos last week after a long time and first thing I noticed was how small the box and pizza had become.

  • Wouldn't be surprised if they had shrunk them, everyone else is doing it (Cadbury 250->200g blocks, Chips 250->200g packs), so why not them?
They can still charge the same "low" price as they did back in 2000, but now you get less for the same price…

  • +1

Then they will introduce a new "super family size" at a premium price!

  • Similar experience here. Tried Dominos after 3 months. Although I didn't notice the shrinking of the box, I did notice that they have cut down on the range. Also, the coverage of toppings on the Puff Pizza has shrunk - they used to go out to the edge…now there is a big border with no toppings!

  • biggest waste of money with domino's is that cheesey crust pizza, atleast with the ones from the mt waverley (vic)store, you can barely notice it

  • +1

Perhaps this is the result of ozbargainers using coupons to purchase cheap pizzas?

    • +1

      Dominos got Ozbargained.

    • +3

i can just imagine how critical customers would be if they actually paid full price for domino's,if it werent for the vouchers they wouldnt get any business from me

    • +2

I do wonder whether non-coupon purchasers would get a different treatment. Say a new order comes up on the computer, and next to it you see that the customer paid full price. So you pull out the pizza base from the "normal tray" and put more toppings on it.

I doubt anyone from Domino's can confirm it though.

      • the makers usually have no idea if the order was made using a coupon unless they took the order themselves or they have been told by someone..

when i worked for them over a year ago everyone got the same thing even after a whinge or two..

not sure if its still done the same way now..

      • The issue is the size of the base, not the toppings.

The diameter of the pizzas is really pathetic now.

      • fallen41Ln is right, this is how it is currently done.

The exception is the franchise managers, some of them will actively keep an eye on coupon buyers (I don't know how) and make your pizza lower quality.

My local does great coupon pizzas so I can't test.

        • Noticed ours will give less (yes its possible) with a coupon. If you forget to mention it and hand it over when you collect you get more.

      • My work place gets pizzas from Dominos from time to time at full price, and they don't look any different to pizzas purchased with vouchers. In fact, some of them have even fewer/uneven toppings. I don't know, maybe the makers were rushing the job and put very little toppings when they have bulk orders.

        • With pizza hut it's a different story. Buy a coupon pizza and then buy a full-priced pizza, you'll see with the full-priced pizza the cheese actually does sort of stretch while the coupon pizza has no stretching cheese. Also a significant amount of reduced toppings on the coupon pizza.

  • Shouldnt franchisee offer the same products amongst each other?

    • +1

      they do…

    • They usually do, but I know some stores have some differences. I have been to a few McDonalds stores that don't sell some of the normal menu items. Probably because they are unpopular in the area.

    • +1

Some subways really go out of their way to skimp on filling for example. One local SW is bad at it and all the staff do it, not just the odd one. Some franchisees are real scrooges regardless of brand.

      • Yer i know what you mean,to counter this i ask for heaps of everything but you still have to keep saying bit more..bit more..bit more just to get a normal amount of salad! sometimes they get a little pissed off but i just say with a smile on my face 'i'd rather fill up on salad then junk food'.

Well after 3 emails dominos finally answered my questions,

1.Has the box been downsized? yes it has.
2.Has the diameter of the pizza's been reduced? no it hasn't,however the amount of dough used for deep pan has been reduced.

  • it is pathetic. the price has increased but we have seen a big drop in both quality AND size. I have given up on them. because a local woodfired pizza shop does gourmet pizzas, $11 each or 2 for $20 and they have seafood and many other toppings and are double the size and fresh! free delivery too if you order over $20 (otherwise just $2 surcharge).

  • ive decided to stop using domino's period

strike 1: 80% of pizza topping on the cardboard lid
strike 2: poprock icecream with fizzled out pop rocks
strike 3: dumbass forgot the 1.25 litre drink

worst thing about my local is extras are $1 which arent applied consistantly, which is a better gripe to have

    • Yep same, they offered me a free pizza and i said no thanks.

    • wow you guys have some bad experiences with domino

our local dominoes is not that bad!

    • What ever happened to those things they used to put in the middle of the pizza to stop the lid from touching it?

I haven't seen one for years!

  • Purchased a dominoes a few weeks ago… WTF>>?? Almost small enough to be called a tart not pizza!
Won't be back there in a hurry.
Bad enough they skimp on the topping but shrinking it to almost biscuit size is a joke.
There is a market out there for a decent pizza if anyone wants the business and the $$$.
Sadly there is no non franchise pizza shops around this area and it has a large population too (2285).
Our local dominoes rarely has coupons or specials like a lot of the others do.

I wonder who the genius is at dominoes who comes up repeatedly with the idea to boost profits… ""Lets shrink the pizza!!"" Can't ya see the CEO saying "brilliant, give that man a raise" … LOL

    $10 should buy a decent pizza…

  • and that is why I love APK!
woodfired pizza but only dine in option(Lunch and Dinner)

All south canberrans have one about 20 mins max from their house wherever they live.

  • +1

I don't buy pizza from dominos anymore. Their pizza are tiny vs pizzahut. Not worth the money

    • Try getting your eyes checked.

      Eagle Boys = 12 inchs
      Pizza Hut = 11 inchs
      Domino's = 10 inchs

Now lets rate the pizzas based on toppings and price

      Domino's Value Range ($av $5.95 Eagle Boys Traditional ($7.95)
      Domino's Traditional ($av $5.95) = Pizza Hut Legends ($8.95)
      Domino's Premium ($av $8.90) = Pizza Hut Sensations ($11.95)
      Eagle Boys Gourmet ($av $13.95)
A gourmet pizza joint, crust etc ($20 and is actually filling)

Result: Its either Dominos, Eagle Boys Gourmet or a place like Crust.

av = average, you can often get it cheaper then the average at dominoes

      Use your brain!

I frequent Domino's Bondi and Bondi Junction.

For $6-8 with coupons, I dont see how anyone can complain, even if you get an undertopped one.

That is the price of a crappy frozen McCain pizza at Coles.

  • Thought I would buy another pizza tonight to see how undersized they are.

    Results below:

    http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/9541/img00214201105282037…

    • I already posted on the sizes, what is there to be surprised about?

      • Guess I meant undertopped

        • the amount of toppings look fine to me.

It just looks like it wasn't spread properly.

    • looks like fruit salad over a ham and pineapple pizza with olives lol

    • I don't believe that is from Dominos.

  • Nevermind….the meaning of the post was lost.

I was posting a sarcastic post about how "undertopped" the pizza is to all the complainers when really its about to burst with all the topping on it.
