Bali Travel Insurance - Volcano

Hi, does anyone know of a travel insurance provider that will cover issues that might occur with Mt Agung in Bali?
I have contacted Allianz & Citibank & they both say there is an embargo on any coverage as it is seen as active (since last September) & hence is not classed as unforeseen.

  • If they specifically say that the insurance will not cover volcano related activities, that may not be a terrible thing. They should still cover everything else as normal right? If your flight is delayed or cancelled, your airline should be doing the footwork right? Like when Qantas cancelled my flight out of Syd, they placed us all in hotels.

    • No, they are saying that any delay or cancellation as a result of Mt Agung will not be covered as it is not an unforeseen event.

      • Is that your airline saying that, or insurance company? I am sure your insurance company will not give you anything for e.g. your flight is cancelled due to an eruption. But your airline will

Depends on the airline. A budget one like Tiger will likely just rebook you onto a flight 2 weeks away and give you nothing for accommodation or food in the meantime.

          • @MrHyde: That is true. Qantas was good. In bali though, I'd treat it as an extra long holiday. Really cheap food, possibly really cheap accomodation

            • @Tech5: Not cheap when hundreds of people are looking for accom at short notice

              • +1

@WreckTangle: hundreds of people also can't get in.. so lots of cancelled reservations

        • The insurance company. Whilst it is likely the airline will put you on the next available plane ones they start flying again, they wont cover for your prepaid accom (for example) if it happens just before you are due to leave home.

  • Have a look at this https://www.scti.com.au/campaigns/bali/

    From the text
"Volcanic eruptions have stranded countless travellers in Bali due to flight cancellations. We understand how disruptive a volcanic ash cloud event can be on your travel plans, which is why our TravelCare policy includes comprehensive travel interruption cover.

So that you’re covered for unexpected cancellations, you should also start your insurance as soon as you book your flights and accommodation."

I would still ring them to see if there is any current embargo on Bali volcano due to last eruption.

    • Anyone got more info on this?
