    This or the Meizu Pop?

    • Don't know too much about the Meizu Pop but the airdots have Bluetooth 5.0 whereas Meizu is 4.2? Does it make a difference?

      • +1

        BLE makes a big difference.

    • I have the Meizu Pop and they're decent, very good on bass side.

However after a couple of months the pressure controls have gone to shit. Can't even skip tracks properly and end up activating Google assistant by accident.

There are also dropouts if you go too far from your phone, say 10m or so. I live in a unit, so with all these walls around me I still get a fair bit of dropouts. From reviews I've seen on YouTube, these Xiaomi don't fare that much better in that department.

I also walked around on the street and in the shops and didn't have that many dropouts at all really , so I think it's more the walls and keeping your phone close to you that seals the deal with these.

Overall, for the price the sound quality of the Meizu was far better than I expected for sure. The rest of it is bit hit and miss.

The only thing holding me back is the voice prompts being in Mandarin :\ There's no beeps or anything!

    • +7

I too thought this was annoying but I'm willing to learn Mandarin

      • +20

You'll probably need to soon enough anyway.

Isn't Ozbargain already 90% Chinese? (Judging by the photos coming out of the meetups happening this week!)

          • @dust: Wanna see pics! Where are they?

          • @dust: Like Russel Peters says! Asians be always looking for bargains!

        • Love multi cultural demograph but hate Australia being converted to Chinese shadow. They bought biggest land now they was tried to buy gas wholesale. I hate that and polis are stupid selling Australia to outsiders.

As much as I love Xiaomi, I don't understand how a $50 product can compare to a $200 product.

    • +10

It's like how the xiaomi vac can compare to a $1000 roomba

    • +32

Let me explain in as much detail as possible: The $200 product is sold by Apple.

      • -7

Thanks for the expected reply, but we all know Apple are expensive.

        • +1

Hey, I own the Apple ones so I'm one of the suckers who bought them. I do think the Airpods look better though.

        • +2

He literally answered your question. Airpods are overpriced and underpowered, versus anything else.

          • @Tacooo: How so?

            • -2

@onlinepred: No active noise cancellation (let alone passive cancellation), can't be used on anything but iPhone, not waterproof, lack of codecs.

              • +2

@Tacooo: I'm using Airpods on my Pixel, they work on any android device too. The thing that stopped me looking at many of these cheap chinese ones was the batter life, my airpods last up to 6 hours and then have another >20 hours on tap in the case. Also just putting it out there, just like there are over ear and on ear headphones, there are inner ear canal and in ear, I hate inner ear canal which is why I bought the airpods.

                • +1

@onlinepred: Sorry, they shouldn't be used on Android due to increasingly lossy performance over AAC. https://www.soundguys.com/dont-use-airpods-android-20767/

                  • @Tacooo: I didn't notice at all.

                    • @onlinepred: You won't on AirPods because there's no isolation or cancellation at all on them. You're never truly alone with the music. Also, shitty drivers on them.

                      • +2

@Tacooo: No isolation, that's a good thing for me though, obviously you wouldn't buy them if that was a key requirement. I want to hear the environment while I walk to work and listen to podcasts/audiobooks. Also when I'm doing chores around the house I want to hear my family. I dont know a single scenario when I would want to be isolated. They aren't shitty drivers, the sound significantly better than my broken bragi dash/new pixel buds, and obviously not as good as any of my cans, but they are wireless ear pods.

Everyone sits there and compares x against y, but fails to factor in major details and takes major assumptions. The Airpods are fantastic and worth every penny for what they are. If they don't suit you it's obvious you should look elsewhere.

                • @onlinepred: I am happy with whatever anyone chooses but the airpods don't have aptx so your sound quality won't be as good.

                  • @aimon: If you like to see the little connection for aptx then I'm happy for you to find earbuds/headphones that have that. For my cans when I switch aptx on or off, I can't tell the difference at all. I remember reading an article about this too, aptx is old and barely distinguishable against current bt streaming codecs. The quality of the BT connection and maintaining it without drops, and quality fit in the ear are far more important than aptx. BTW, I can tell the difference on certain high def audio using aptxHD, could tell literally 0 difference on aptx vs aac. Everyone wanted aptx back in the day as all the other bt streaming was terrible, things have changed a lot since.

                    Edit: found link https://www.rtings.com/headphones/learn/sbc-aptx-which-bluet…

                • @onlinepred: I hate the inner ear canal ones too!
In your research, had you come across any airpod alternatives?

                  • +1

@Rorschach: I didn't get to try it out, but many said the Bose doesn't actually go in the ear canal, it's just a directed tip. The only thing is for me it stuck out of the ear quite a bit, and many reported it could get knocked out easily. I got my wife the Airpods, and they are actually really great. I would prefer something that wasn't so open, and ideally I would prefer the pixel buds without the cable and all the issues + terrible case.

It's hard man. There are more options if you don't mind having the cable when it comes to not inner ear canal like jaybirds etc. I think I will end up getting airpods for myself this xmas, I really wish google released a new version of the buds :-(

          • +1

            @Tacooo:

            He literally answered your question.

I never asked a question to begin with.

Airpods are overpriced and underpowered, versus anything else.

I think you're exaggerating, while they may be overpriced compared to other alternatives, I think they are at the top of their game in terms of functionality.

            • -3

@magic8ballgag: They don't even have passive noise cancellation, that's literally earbud basics 101.

        • so what's your argument exactly?

          • +2

@191919: I was simply just asking why people think these can truly be compared to their obvious competitor's choice, instead of the typical 'because they're cheaper!' response.

            • @magic8ballgag: This is what happens when youre in the apple echo chamber too long. Common as it is. If not its a bit of a lazy almost silly question.

              • @Xizor: agree. some people just dont get that apple product cost is just the same as others. its the brand that triple fold the price or maybe quadruple it. they think oh apple $200 of course cant be compared with xxx $50.
they dont know the $200 cost maybe $20 and therefore inferior to that $50

                • +1

@CyberMurning: Bose, Jabra, Google are all more expensive than the airpods. Not sure what you are getting at.

                • @CyberMurning: Pretty sure that’s wrong. As pointed out below, all the other brands’ in-ear completely wireless earbuds are more expensive than AirPods.

    • It's the same as comparing their light bulbs to LIFX. Xiaomi make quality products for a low price point, I think the comparison to Airpods is fair enough considering their track record

      • -3

I guess, but what's stopping them from undercutting Apple by ~$100 instead of ~$150?

        • +1

Their target market isn't people who buy Airpods

          • @apexplosive: Apparently it is, especially since they are being compared against each other.

            • +2

@magic8ballgag: That's because they are almost up there with the $200 produce based on quality and functions

Xiaomi has a policy of having only 5% profit over their cost price, hence the reason it is $150 cheaper, you have to ask why Apple is $150 more, not the otherway around

              • @otter-raptor:

That's because they are almost up there with the $200 produce based on quality and functions

How so? Have you personally compared the two products with an unbiased opinion?

                • +3

@magic8ballgag: Geez mate, you realise people here are trying to give you some info not trying to argue with you right, why this confrontational tone with others in the thread too.

Going by your logic , have you used both the products and decided this is of lower quality , why are you trying to portray so

My opinion was based on using other xiaomi products and apple products if that means anything to you btw

                  • @otter-raptor:

Geez mate, you realise people here are trying to give you some info not trying to argue with you right, why this confrontational tone with others in the thread too.

I'm only defending myself as I was met with confrontation when challenging the typical OzBargain attitude of cheaper = better.

Going by your logic , have you used both the products and decided this is of lower quality , why are you trying to portray so

I've used a wide range of both Apple and Xiaomi products, and I haven't decided on anything yet, but history will show that cost-cutting most often comes with a price (pardon the pun), in which I'm determined to find out.

                    • -1

@magic8ballgag: "I'm only defending myself as I was met with confrontation when challenging the typical OzBargain attitude of cheaper = better."

Well I didn't , so why take the same stance with me then , this will only make people avoid giving you an answer in the future, just my 2 cents

Have fun in discovering the cost cutting and related disadvantages

          Supply vs Demand…

    • +1

Jeez, dare I question the intentions of our great overlord Xiaomi whilst challenging everybody's perfect idea of a bargain!

For the record, I personally don't own any Apple products, but I can still appreciate/rate them, along with questioning the quality of their obvious competitors.

On another note, I own a lot of Xiaomi products and hold more loyalty towards them then I do with the big fruit.

      • -1

How can you appreciate them and question the quality of their competitors? Have you personally compared two products with an unbiased opinion?

        • Not many people would though, anyone who bought a $200+ wireless pods like bose/jabra/airpod, I doubt would look at cheap $50 chinese ones.

        • +1

One is clearly undercutting the other, and as such I'm only trying to inform other members of this site that going for the cheaper alternative isn't a guarantee of a better product.

As I replied to another comment earlier, I've personally tried the AirPods but am curious to comprehend how a $50 competitor's product holds up against them.

          • @magic8ballgag: I’m curious too!

I have apple products and so the AirPods iOS integration is part of the value proposition (as Apple expects)…but is it worth $150 more? Interested to know if the rest of the package is on par or if not, what is lacking.

    • +1

Not sure why Lorindor is being met with so much hostility. I think it might be because he's phrased a question that sounds like he's critiquing both the Xiaomi and the Apple product depending upon how you read it. Therefore he's being attacked by people defending both sides.

His point is quite a valid one. Whilst my initial response was tongue-in-cheek, it's probably the reality. Both products are worth around the $50 price point. Apple sell it for a lot more because they can. No-one is wrong for buying either product, as long as they are happy with what they get.

      • +2

His questions was answered in the first few replies. Apple sells premium priced things. Xiaomi has earned their reputation for selling good quality items at affordable prices. Bottomline is things are often sold at their perceived value instead of actual value. Not anyone's fault he's acting confrontational or is too dense to get it.

  • "Hello, Xiaoai"….

How do you pronounce that ???

    • +2

      "Shall I"

    • "FBI", they're always listening.

      • I think you mean MSS.

    • THat youtube video review gave me aids.

      • +1

Most YouTube videos do that to me these days. I avoid that hole like the plague.

  • I got a similar one, QCY T2 (not pro one), quite satisfied with it.

  • Worth a try for $50, but sold out already it seems?

  • Ordered some QCY t1 5.0 will see how they are have heard that the jump to 5.0 is good for battery life, audio quality and distance. Am getting tired of my Meizu ep51 and the cable etc.

  • Was gonna buy to try but reviews say you can't even adjust the volume, or skip tracks from them.

    Lame.

    • +1

      Same as >95% of earbuds.

      • I see your point but still have the controls on my Meizu Pop

      • As the cheap ones right? Nearly all decent ones have ability to skip tracks, some have assistant to ask for volume, others have swipe up/down for volume.

        • I was more referring to the volume. Skip and such is pretty standard, yeah.

        • There are buttons on the back but I'm not sure if it has skip or volume
Edit:you can tap the airdots and use Google assistant for volume

  • +5

Stop arguing, the damn thing is out of stock! Miss out because have to read all these damn comments!

    • Miss out because have to read all these damn comments!

That's the worst excuse I've ever heard.

  • Let's hope they bring more stock in for Black Friday.

  • +1

Personally would like to see them in black - being Black Friday and all!

  • +1

For those who felt like they missed out: don't stress, you really didn't. The drivers in these earbuds are not up to the same standard as the other Xiaomi audio products coming out right now. These are only good value if you desperately want true wireless earphones.

For everyone else, look into some of the Chi-Fi IEMs, which will all be going on sale in the next few days, and then simply add a bluetooth adaptor that supports your cable pin type.

    Some recommendations (GST inc):

KZ ZSN - $22 @ GearBest: the top rated budget choice right now, using graphene-based drivers.

Tin Audio T2 - $44 @ AliExpress (in 3 days): incredibly popular and probably the best price/performance ratio of any in-ear solution, though this is more reference quality, which audiophiles describe as 'neutral' as opposed to 'warm' or 'fun'.

You can then pair either of these with a BT 4.2 cable that supports aptX and AAC (and even upgrade this down the line), noting that the KZs use a 2-pin 0.75mm B-style plug (the last part is an angled jack), and the T2s use an MMCX connection. Here's a solid option for both at a good price.

Finally if you just want solid wired earbuds, Xiaomi's latest and greatest (and well reviewed) option with graphene drivers is the QTEJ03JY aka the Hybrid Pro v2, for $23 (in 3 days).

All of these come with multiple silicon bud sizes, so you're almost certainly not going to have any issues with fit.

    • +1

You can't really compare those with the airdots since they're not truly wireless although I agree that there are better audio quality earphones for cheaper albiet with connecting wires.

      • Yup, and I said as much. I'm just chucking up some products that produce better audio for more use cases.

True wireless still has some work that needs to be done, as does BT audio in general really, but particularly in finding enough space in the form factor for decent drivers.

  • A big 'thank you' go to all those who posted comments/comparisons vs similar products.

I have Jabra Elite Sport but unfortunately right earbud is louder than the left.

Been waiting for one of these to go on sale…

  • I pre ordered a pair on the 9th November and they arrived Monday. Sound quality is good. On Android Oreo you can change codecs in developer options. They are not as loud as my beats Bluetooth but I like the way they sit in the ear. The charging box is cool and gives 12 hours of charge. Used them today for a phone call seemed to be fine for an hour in my ear. Worth the $50 for me personally.

    • Similar to you, I've got a few pairs from the supplier after pre-order and been testing them for the last few days. Sound quality not bad, connectivity with BT5.0 is decent and no noticeable lag when playing PUBG mobile (better than the other TWS ones I've tried of similar price tag). They fit a little bit loose in my ears but won't fall out fortunately.

The Charge case actually has more juice than I expected, only needed to recharge the case once or twice a week with my usage.

  • Are they also good for phone call with one side on?

  • We need a coupon code from gearbest.

    https://www.gearbest.com/headsets/pp_009395441187.html?wid=1…

    Are they the same?

    https://www.gearbest.com/earphones/pp_009221021584.html?wid=…

Will there be any disadvantage when not connected to BT 5.0 phone?

  • After one month I was told by the seller they have sent it to the wrong address and suggested a refund. Not happy!

    • I received mine with no issues but that really sucks!
