NRL Ticket price hike on game day?!!

Just thought i would share what has just happened..
I want to go to the Manly vs Knights game today. I've been holding off buying tickets based on the weather forecast. I was looking at buying 2 x tickets for the Western Concourse at Brookvale Oval. Throughout the whole week they have been $35 (such a rip off!).. until it turned 12am (game day) and they've hiked the prices up by $5!! It made me so angry! BUT, I've also noticed on Ticketmaster's page, they have 'Ticket price ranges..'. When you click on this link, it says $35.. but of course you cant buy them at that price.

Take a look at the screen shot i took!

Now, i know Ticketmaster are a bit of a rip with their credit card and booking fees, etc.. but will i be able to get the $35 price or cheaper at the gate? Im not sure how much prices differentiate between buying online or at the gate. The seats i would be getting buying online are semi decent too.. im afraid if i buy at the gate that I'll get a shabby seat.

    GWS!!

    • ??

      • Just encouraging you to take up afl with the greater western sydney giants:p

        • Haha.. now i see! =)

  • the southern grandstand may be sold out?

EDIT: Sorry misunderstood what you were saying. They've probably included the booking fees for you in the dropdown.

    • Nah booking fees arent included in that price.. They're on top when you finally checkout.

  • sorta like ticket opportunist

  • I don't consider $35 or $40 is expensive compared to the ripoff price of concerts. The footy lasts longer than a concert too. LOL

The worst part of getting a ticket is not knowing what fans are going to be around you. Last time I went to the footy (afl) was back when the saints played the cats in round 14 , 2009. The atmosphere was fantastic, the food and drink moderately affordable, the seat was just $40 and just on the 50m mark on the wing about 10 rows back…,sadly I was the only cats supporter in a crowd atleast 50 saints fans lol

  • Ok, so this morning i rang Ticketmaster to see if it was a computer glitch. The guy said he had never seen that before and he couldn't do anything about it. I asked if i could buy tickets at full price and then be refunded the difference, but he just replied with i don't think that's possible. He said it was Manly Sea Eagle 's decision to raise prices on game day and nothing could be done (even though its Ticketmaster's website that has the false and misleading information). He also said he would email his events manager.. and then that was the end of the conversation.

I also rang Manly Sea Eagles to see if prices are different at the gate.. but soon found out they also had been raised by $5 per ticket for the Western Concourse. The Manly Sea Eagles Ticketing Manager said the price rise was to encourage pre-game ticket purchases and decreasing waiting lines on game day. Although in saying this, if they are trying to encourage pre-game ticket purchases by raising the price on game day, wouldn't Manly Sea Eagles raise all ticket types, and not just the Western Concourse and Southern Grandstand (was $35.00.. then raised to $40.00). I found General admission ($25.00) and the other grandstands ($55.00) had remained exactly the same price without an increase..

Secondly, if the aim is to reduce queues and lines on game day by pre selling tickets, how exactly does raising the online purchasing price achieve this? Wouldn't it make more sense to raise only the cost of 'at the gate' ticket purchases?

This frustrates me that clubs can do this! Anyone else know of other NRL clubs that do this?

If Nathan Tinkler takes over the Newcastle Knights, he'll be reducing general admission ticket prices to $3.75 each and reserved seating to $5 each. He wants to pack out the stadium!! Awesome idea! I'm a knights fan so i'm all for it.. shame about the result today and all this ticket kerfuffle!

Today i heard back from the Manly Sea Eagles and Ticketmaster. They have agreed to refund me the difference between the pregame price and game day price, which will be $5 per ticket. They agreed to refund the money on the basis that i provided them with the evidence of false advertising on the Ticketmaster website through a screen shot. I have learnt my lesson.. pre purchase tickets before game day! =) Hope this helps someone one day.
