Got in email Kogan just dropped price on this item, RRP $55 from Apple Store.

Now available at $35 from Kogan.

These are useful as only genuine Apple USB-C to Lightning cables can fast charge iPhone 8/X/XS/XR/XS Max/iPad Pro(2017) at faster than 12W using a USB-C PD Fast Charger (Apple or 3rd party) with iOS version newer than 11.3.

Price drop may be due to that there are going to be 3rd party Mfi USB-C to Lightning cables coming up soon. As Apple is hosting a MFi Supplier Responsibility introduction conference in Shenzhen in December, the main topic is going to be around the release of C89/C94 Lightning connector for Mfi USB-C to Lightning fast charging and Lightning to 3.5mm audio applications.

      The best you can do without this cable would be 12W with a Mfi USB-A to Lightning cable.

      For iPhones, refer to this article "iPhone X Charging Speeds Compared: The Fastest and Easiest Ways to Charge Your iPhone", this cable will get you from 0% to 50% within 30min.

      For iPad Pro, the maxed out charging power is 29W vs 12W.

      iPhone - the difference isn't that huge (compared to Apple 12W USB charger)
      iPad Pros - old 10 inch and 12 inch models can benefit from this (with an appropriate charger). New ones now switch to USB-C.

      1m has 2 different versions. Older version: USB 3, newer version: USB 2. It's very hard to find the old version now. It only matters if you have an iPad Pro I reckon.

    My usual warning about this product:

    If you get the 1m ones, chances are you will get the current batch (so they only support USB 2). The older ones used to cost more but they support USB 3. Apple didn't just drop the price for the 1m cables, they also removed the USB 3 data pins (and thus less wires).

    Not sure about the big discount on the 2m ones from Kogan. Apple haven't dropped the price (which would suggest the 2m ones haven't got the cost cutting treatment yet).

      You might have mistaken this with the USB-C to C cable for charging Macbooks and new iPad Pro :P

        No, I am not. It is USB-C to lightning cable 1m I am talking about. The 1m one had a price reduction a few months ago except Apple did cut cost and remove the USB 3 data pins in the USB-C plug (which essentially makes the cable USB 2.0 only). Why do you think people are buying the 2m version of this cable nowadays?

        This is NOT the only product Apple made changes. Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter - you want the newer / latest model (even Macbook Pro 2017 and 2018 come with different version of the 61W charger - both called 61W). 87W probably is in the same boat. There is a reason why Apple stopped the 29W charger. It's not well known, but Apple do revise their accessories (and certain versions are better).

        As for why Apple's USB-C to USB-C cable is USB 2.0 only is because (1) cost and (2) it is much harder to pass USB-C/PD IF certification in USB 3 (e-Marker requirement). For high speed, Apple prefer you to buy the more expensive thunderbolt 3 cable.

          Wrong. Apple NEVER made USB-C to Lightning with a 3.0 variant. The only Lightning to 3.0 speed device is the camera connection kit. Trawl the internet for as long as you like, you’ll never find evidence of USB 3.0 transfer speed from USB-C to Lightning; it’s always been USB 2.0.

            @captainandg: Mate, you are wrong. I have the 1m USB-C to lightning cable (the CORRECT version which has USB 3.0). It has the USB 3.0 data pins on the USB-C side. Please do not forget iPad Pro's supporting USB-PD DO SUPPORT USB 3.0. If you want to use iPad Pro with USB 3.0, the only way is to get the correct cable. The reason I know about this USB 3 and USB 2 is because there was a review on BOTH versions of the cable.

            Why would Apple put in USB 3 data pins on a cable if it cannot support USB 2? Why do you think the 2m cables continue to cost so much (and STILL have the USB 3 data pins)? You said so yourself, Apple HAVE the camera kit which is USB 3. If you ONLY have iPhones, then you cannot benefit from USB 3. However, if you have the older 10 inch/12 inch iPad Pros, The "CORRECT" version of the lightning to USB cable (which supports USB 3) has not just USB-PD benefit, but also faster transfer.

            One down side of having a donglebook (Macbook Pro) is that you are somewhat forced to have a better understanding of USB 3. You really underestimate Apple. They KNOW USB-C/USB 3.0/3.1 gen1/gen2, thunderbolt, USB-PD very well. So well that they know how to cut cost.

    Just be aware that I have ordered some from Kogan, it isn't a plain white cable. It has kogan branding on the usb-c side of the wire.

    I just received the genuine apple 2m lightning cable from them for my iPad Pro, but it only charges until 95%. Then it showed “not charging”. I didn’t get this problem with my 1m lightning cable, so I reckon they are fake products.

      Interesting, do you have photos of the package and the cable, there should be matching serial numbers. If you are based in Melbourne, I can use a MFI tester to extract the serial number embedded in the chip cable to verify if they are genuine.

        This is one of the “Apple Lightning to USB Cable (2m) - (3 Pack)“. They came in a courier bag without package. I checked the serial numbers on the cable at checkcoverage.apple.com but none was valid.

          I would request a refund from Kogan, as the product page clearly has Apple logo and no mention of lack of original packaging.

          I'll order one now just to test if it's genuine or not.

    Received my order today and did some testing, see pictures below:

    Conclusion: Counterfeit cable with genuine Lightning C52 Connector, probably assembled in a counterfeit factory with some grey market Lightning connectors. Functionally it will do the job just fine as iOS devices will read the chip information and recognise it as genuine, but at the end of the day, it is not a genuine cable.

    Does it worth $35?
