  • Anyone know if i list an item during this periodr, and it doesn't sell by 20th,

    1) does the the ad just auto renews over and over until it's finally sold?

    2) when it does eventually sell, will the final value fee be charged since it occurred after this promotional date?

    Thanks.

If you list before the 20th, and the item sells after the 20th, you'll have no final value fees.

However, if you relist/renew after the 20th and sell, you'll be charged fees.

    • 1) It shouldn't auto-relist. You only need to list them before end of 20th (the items don't have to be sold by the 20th). You can list with a longer duration (i.e. 10 days or more).

      2) If you do re-list (say after 10 days), then you will be charged the final value fee (assuming you have some free listing fee offers).

Generally, you wouldn't re-list. You would completely create a new listing say on the weekends to take the $1 FVF deal. Do bear in mind if you accept PayPal, PayPal fees are NOT waived.

      • Generally, you wouldn't re-list

        It auto-relists after 30 days.

        • I didn't neg vote your comment.

I just tried it. Listed an item, then edited the listing to verify. Automatically relist this item up to 9 times is un-ticked. However, that doesn't mean it is the default behaviour for everyone. It is weird this setting is not shown during the preparation of the listing.

Thus, to be sure, re-edit a listing (after it is listed) and ensure it is not ticked. Better safe than sorry.

          • @netsurfer: Yeah, I know you didn't neg me.

For my items, they all relist 3 times automatically.

eBay uses the item ID, so as long as that doesn't change, then you'll be eligible.

. It is weird this setting is not shown during the preparation of the listing.

eBay has had so many revisions over the years, it's a mess.

I think it only shows if you're using the Advanced Listing Tool.

@Scab: I am guessing it might be based on your past listings. I noticed even though I put in a brand new listing, it inherited quite a lot of my last/previous listing's options (i.e. exclusions, return policy) and looks like no auto relist was inherited as well.

Was trying to find where to adjust this settings before or during the listing. Not able to find it yet. Also agree with you with eBay changing things constantly - gets confusing.

              • @netsurfer: Yeah, doesn't show for me either, it always used to show Automatically Relist 3 Times.

Weirdly, all my ads still relist on their own regardless.

        • Never does it to me. I sold maybe 200 things in the last year. I'm not saying you're wrong in your case, I'm saying that it doesn't happen to everyone.

          • @justtoreply: I don't doubt it doesn't happen to everyone, as I said eBay is a convoluted mess.

      • If you relist, or eBay auto-relist after the promotion period, the listing will have new item ID, therefore you WILL be charged if the item is sold. I have been in this mess many times and always need to get it resolved with eBay customers service

    • I had an item sell during the promo period but the buyer didn't pay. I did a Second Chance offer on the same listing and the other buyer accepted it but it was a day after the promo period so a month later I got a $210 fee instead of nothing.
Moral of the story, don't count on it working.

That's when you contact Ebay customer service.

And don't let go of it if they say no.

  • well yes - during the Promotion Period in order to qualify for the promotion
