Old school Milkbar candy!

Nice sunny day here in Melbourne and decided to take the dog for a walk. Walking past a Milkbar could not help myself to splurge on some candy for all the hard walking..

It made me remember these bad boys (Toffee Apple lollies), wish they still made the same type;

It always got to me that a "milk bar" in Vic is a deli store sort of thing. I haven't had those toffee apples in forever!! My fav candy though are mini m&ms or foreros (not sure if they count), actually I haven't had PEZ in forever, now that I'm an adult, I'm allowed to buy it woo woo lol.

    • …no its not.

Memories with themnCobbers or walking around pretending to smoke with fags lollies.

You must be my era then - Wizz Fizzes, Sonny Boys, Liquorice blocks, the cigar big brother of the Fags, Love Hearts. If it wasn't for the Fluoride in the water I wouldn't have teeth.

Fags still exist, but now called Fads. LGBTQI ?

        • That's about when I stopped buying them.

        • Once the LGBTQBBQ gets to it it's not the same

        • Nah it was an anti-smoking thing.

          • @jacross: Not sure why they didn't just dump the line completely. They still look like cigarettes and "fads" makes no sense at all.

            • @try2bhelpful: Because they still wanted to sell them without getting into trouble. Nobody buys fads and goes 'oh hey look at me I'm definitely not smoking a cigarette'. You just have to use your imagination.

…well that's me anyway. I don't know what the kids do.

          • @jacross: Double Entendre !

            • @Peck: Oh definitely but the motivation for changing was the anti-smoking element.

    • Haha yes! Summers were amazing with us 8 year old kids pretending to smoke Fag lollies, very few of which went on to become actual smokers i.e. far below the smoking rate in the general population.

I miss the days they were called lollies.

Absolutely. We don't have candy in Australia, we have lollies and sweets.

Similar to the toffee apples were Pink Panthers. I would kill for one right now :)

I don't have a favourite candy because there's no such thing as candy in Australia.

My favourite old school lollies are carob buds or eucalyptus drops from the canteen, used to be 3 for 5c.

Good old carob buds, no better way to disappoint a child lol

I used to call eucalyptus drops as cough lollies when i order it from the canteen lol

Redskins (not very PC these days), Choo-choo bars, aniseed balls {10 a cent) , sherbet bombs {soft pink fondant with a mouthful of sherbet in the middle) . Happy days when 10 cents bought you a whole bag of lollies.

  • Candy??? You've been watching too much American TV! Lollies, we have lollies in Australia, we have biscuits, not cookies, we decorate our trees and say Merry Christmas!
    Rant over.

  • Zombie chews ans ghost drops!

  • Mates, Sour gums, Jaffas, Chiccos.

But for the most part, just ordered a bag of mixed lollies — "50 cents worth" was more than enough sugar for one day, back in the 70s — these days it would be about "2 bux worth"!
