Amazon have dropped the price of God of War to $29 - presumably in response to the upcoming Big W sale.

Select Amazon AU as the seller to get it for $29.

It's 95 cents more expensive but already on sale unlike the Big W sale which doesn't start until next week.

    Plus 8% cashback

  • Ordered, cheers. Don't forget cashback.

  • +2

But what if they have a higher cashback deal next weekend but the game is sold out from all you early birds? :(

    • +2

All the God of War fans already played/bought the game. No way it can go out of stock. It may further reduce here on black Friday.

      • True, but Amazon doesnt have a lot of stock to begin with
I notice their games run out of stock fairly quickly and you get the '4 left in stock (more on the way)'

      • +1

I havnt played it yet I'm a bigger fan of saving money than anything else.

        • ok. wait for few more years

            • +3

@abuch47: This game will never negatively impact anyone. But you wouldn't know

              • @jno: What are you saying? Everything ages.

                • +1

@abuch47: Everything ages yes but Why do you think people still play retro games or games getting remastered but hey don't let me force you to play one of the best games made

                  • -2

@jno: I stated I didn't want to wait a few years to play GoW. As a long fan of the franchise (except ascension) this price is me but I'll wait till Friday to grab a bargain.

            • -1

@abuch47: That’s BS, no one will force you to play if it gives you negative utility. So you will choose not to play and choose not to buy and you will save both time and money.

              • @cloudy: you don't know till you play it. by then something better may take the shine off it's glimmer.

                • @abuch47: You can say that about everything in life though.

        • +1

You can purchase it, quickly finish it and then sell it. It's not always good to buy games when they are dirt cheap as they would have bad resell value by then.

Or, if you really want to save money, don't play any game or play only free games.

Using a welcome voucher + help from Amazon CSR, I've got mine from Amazon for a lower price than this months ago. If you want to get bargain deals, waiting is not always the best option.

          • -1

@netsurfer: Ive tried that but fortnite and America's army dropped off hard for me. Any other quality freebies?

        • Do what I did in school. Find a group of friends with the same console. Share your games. Make sure everyone takes turns buying games and don't buy the same game.

Save a lot of money that way.

But of course back then it was possible to rent games from Blockbuster or Video Ezy which is even better.

  • I saw 30 mins ago and it was $40.. it juts got updated :D
    Nice find.

Hanging out for GOTY edition release. Still have Red Dead 2, Assassin's Creed Odyssey on the backburner in various states of progress :)
Then Civ 6 just hit the switch too… OMGs :)

    • +13

Someone posted in the other deal I think that they don't have any plans for DLC so there shouldn't be another release.

    • Yeah me too. Likewise with RDR 2, Spiderman and Fallout 76. As not really concerned about being the first few to own it, I am happy to wait out for the GOTY editions, bugs get iron out and everything else sorted.

    • What would a GOTY edition include? There is no DLC and no plans for any.

  • cheers OP! used the $30 credit i received from amazon as an apology

    • What were they sorry for?

      • +4

        Being Canadian

  • This? spyro? or both?

    • +19

      They're fairly similar..

      • Big fan of both IPs. Might wait till black Friday just realised prime autochrges after the first month and I'd like to recoup that $4.55

        • +3

Annoying thing about Spyro is that only the first game is on the disk…
The hell is the point of buying a physical copy, they stuffed this one up so bad imo

          • @Red Pandas: Meaning 2 and 3 are downloadable? How does that work?

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: From what I've read and Youtube vids of people ranting about it, yes only the first game is on the disk and the rest is a big download in a form of a game patch. I dont own the game and dont plan on buying it any time soon. Maybe when its cheap

Its lazy on their part, Im holding out in hope maybe they release them all on disk. Probably not going to happen.

          • +2

@Red Pandas: Crap didn't know about that. What a cash grab.

        • You can cancel the trial and won't be charged. The trial would go for a month anyway. You can also set up a reminder

          • +2

@yummycoot: Didn't realise a month passed me by since rdr2 purchase.

            • @abuch47: ahaha same here mate, I took the trial then too, almost forgot until the reminder from amazon.

Awesome price for arguably the best ps4 game this year

Does anyone know if Amazon will Match BigWs black friday Spider man price can you please post that if it happens thanks

    • Yea waiting for that and a match on Far Cry 5.

    • +4

Amazon’s business model is to never price lead, only price match others so they are seen as competitive and convenient.

They do this until you can be bothered shopping else where as no one else seems cheaper. And then others goes bust. And then they no longer need to price match. And we all pay RRP

  • +2

Waiting for them to price match GTA, Starlink and Spider-Man.

  • Amazing price so soon

    • +2

Amazon run on algorithms, it knows when consumers are fixated on a sale so they match/fix quickly.

  • Ordered. Would like to see what Target & JB will offer. IIRC Didn't Target have the better game prices last Black Friday?

    • +1

From memory JB and Target had better prices than Big W. Even EB had the odd item or so that was cheaper

      • If Target/JB have lower prices for GoW, then I'll take the hit as "convenience" tax. :/

  • Can u price match amazon price at eb, jb or big w so I can pick up?

    • Try jb first. Eb… they might add delivery fee. Big W will have it for $29 next Friday if you can wait but their price match is not that consistent and depends on who serves you.

  • The BigW post said wont add to the pile of shame, I lied. Thanks OP.

  • Thanks OP, bought it. The lowest I can see this ever going is 19 dollars down the track so 29.95 is great now.

  • +2

Amazing game. Especially on a 4K HDR TV. Great combat system, even better storyline.

Worth every $ at $69 release price. Even better at $29!

  • -8

    Here we go again.
Another Sony exclusive drastically drops in price mere months after it comes out.
I mean what is even the point in buying them at release?
Almost tempted at that price, even though I'm not a fan of the direction the series seems to have taken (SMART GAMES FOR SMART GAMERS SUCH AS MYSELF over the over the top gratuitously violent bloodbath of the originals), plus the over the shoulder camera does no favours for me.

    • +3

The key is to not read too many forums ignore the hype and not create fomo effect, i find its a good way to not be part of the sheep and pay $70 on release

    • Most games do drop in value quickly. It's just that this game is famous so you notice it more. I made a huge loss buying AC: Origins and COD: WW II. Those games suffer huge price drop in resell value when the next one in the series is announced / released.

You could get this game for just a bit more months ago (after the $20 Amazon voucher). Had you bought it months ago, played it quickly, then sell it (even to EB or JB), you wouldn't lose much. That's the good thing about Sony exclusives. There is generally a reasonable price drop a month or 2-3 months after the release. You can take advantage of that. Their resell values don't diminish that quickly. I made a profit with Shadow of Colossus. Bought it for $20, played it many times (got all the swords and items), sold it back to EB for more.

Come up. Thanks to BigW and Amazon, more people can enjoy the game. GOW III remastered was free recently on PS Plus. For me, I much rather play GOW (PS4). After about 20 minutes of GOW III, I stopped. The graphics is just too last gen for me and the control for the new GOW makes more sense (never a fan of QTE). I agree with Angry Joe - the first boss battle, that was quite unexpected so early in the game.

      • Best strategy I've found is to buy games on a price protection credit card. Sell the game soon after you finish it on Gumtree/FB marketplace (if you do it within a couple of weeks you'll get a pretty good price - a $69 game you'll usually get about 45-50 back) and then claim back the inevitable price drop 6 months later on the price protection (usually drops by half so you'll get about 35 back). I've effectively paid nothing for AAA games with this or even made a few dollars over the past year

    • I mean what is even the point in buying them at release?

To play it without waiting a few months?

I used to wait for an entire season of Game of Thrones to finish airing before I started watching it. What I found is that I missed out on all the conversations around the office about it and on the internet. I had to avoid people when they started talking about it, because obviously they weren't going to say, HEY SPOILER ALERT GUYS, LEAVE THE ROOM IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE LATEST EPISODE LOL.

When I started watching them the day they aired, I was much more involved in discussion, reactions, and speculation. When I binge watched it later, people were already done talking about the earlier episodes and there was less to talk about and not many to share your experiences with.

Games get cheaper a few months later. But if you want to be part of the conversation and not have to avoid the internet for spoilers, you pay up and play it when it's in fashion.

  • This is great, thanks

  • I'd rather buy it from Big W to support a local business that offered the bargain price in the first place. With gift card it's the same price as Amazon with cashback, but you don't have to wait 3 months to be repaid.

    • I understand this but my nearest big W store is nearly an hours drive away. Buying from Amazon is all about convenience for me and having prime I get the item in a couple of days.

    • Big W also tends to run out of stock very quickly with hot titles like this.

  • Excellent game!

    https://www.gamesmen.com.au/god-of-war
