SIM Only Plan: 30GB $39/Month, 60GB $59/Month, 90GB $79/Month + Unlimited Talk & Text (12 Month Contract) @ Telstra

1390

12 month contract with Telstra - SIM only for new and existing customers
Unlimited local calls / SMS
Option for unlimited data shaped at 1.5Mbps once you've exceeded your allowance on $59 and $79 plans
6 months Apple Music
Sport data free
Telstra Air

15gb+15gb bonus for $39
30gb+30gb bonus for $59 (includes unlimited talk and text to 15 selected countries)
60gb+30gb bonus for $79 (includes unlimited talk and text to 15 selected countries, unlimited talk and text whilst & 2gb when roaming in selected countries)

I'm not sure what happens after 12 months - eg if the bonus data disappears.
The above plan costs also include a $10 per month discount. I'm not sure if this disappears after 12 months

Offer expires 16/11/18 at 1700

More details https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/personal/mobile-…

Cashrewards has a $45 cashback https://www.cashrewards.com.au/telstra

Edit: I've confirmed with online chat (Michael) that the bonus data and $10 per month discount continues until you recontract to a new plan. YMMV

Edit 2: Thanks to Odesi, I asked for the 5Gb Christmas Bonus. They can't give that on live chat, but they gave another 5gb bonus instead. Again, they claimed it would continue for the life of the plan. I lost the 5Gb loyalty bonus when I upgraded my MX plan, but no big deal due to this bonus. Also I had 2 months to run on my 12 month MX Sim only plan, and there was no early termination fee to upgrade to this offer. The 5GB bonus showed up immediately in my account

Edit 3: Apparently these new deals don't allow data sharing. Some people have also managed to get unlimited data (shaped) on the lowest plan for free. YMMV

As with all things done online, please protect yourself and have the chat transcript emailed to you / printed. Often what the rep promises and what happens is quite different

Nice work. This was only for new customers earlier this week. And yes I believe $10 credit is only for 12 months so plan goes up $10 after that.

  • +1

I'm on $49 plan, can I change it to $39 plan (should be the same plan but with $10 credit)

    • If you're not in contract I don't see why not, you could always port out and back in too.

      • -1

        My contract starts last month..

        • You most likely won't be able to without paying a fee

    • If you are on Telstra $49 plan already then you can have a chat with Telstra Sales . They should be able to do something about it. Give a try

    • yeah best option is to try, you might just have to sign a new contract for another 12 months though.

  • +1

ask for 5gb christmas bonus data on live chat for further 5gb

    • I have never had any success with chat - they always just say what's on the website - any tips?

      • +1

try again and see how you go

      • Disconnect the chat and try again with the next rep. It really is luck of the draw with them.

    • +1

Thanks for the heads up. My chat agent said they couldn't give that on live chat, but gave a different named 5gb bonus. Same diff!

  • +3

Is it only for Personal plan? What about Small Business customers? Do they get this price as well?

  • I'm not sure what happens after 12 months - eg if the bonus data disappears.

In past experience with phone plans, it usually disappears.

  • -3

Who needs 90GB on their phones…

    • +3

A few people I work with don't have broadband options. They use their mobile data plans as their home internet.

    • The more the merrier. 90GB will not be enough once 5G is available. Many people may even stop using their NBN.

  • Anybody on contract had any luck re-contracting?

    • Recontracted - had 3 weeks to go before end of 12 months
      20Gb for $39/month
Now 30gb for same with peace of mind data

      • I don't think the Peace of Mind data was available on the lowest plan?
Edit - oh it is for a $10 option

        • Chat said it did. Emailed summary says it does, just double checked

          • @aibargain: "Peace of Mind data
If you have a $49 plan, you may add Peace of Mind data for
$10/mth. You will be charged for Peace of Mind data each
month until you cancel even if you don’t use all your included
            data in a month.

If you have a $69 or $89 plan, your Plan includes Peace of Mind
data at no additional cost but you may switch to Extra Data at
            $10/1GB.

For Peace of Mind Data, if you exceed your included data
allowance, your data speeds are capped at 1.5Mbps until the end
of your bill cycle (not suitable for HD video or high speed
applications, and means that some web pages, video/social media
content and some large files may take longer to load) and slowed
            further during busy periods."

            from T&C https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/personal/mobile-…

Bonus if you have it in writing!

            • @butwhy: There's a line in their system to add Peace of Mind data for nothing I believe it's "$0 Peace of Mind Data". They can add it to the lower tier plans.

      • I can confirm $39 for 30GB and Peace of mind. I just got it as well - existing customer. The plan is called "companion plan"

I didnt ask for the christmas bonus, but did ask if they could give me a 5gb bonus on top as well - no budging.
Might try for the xmas bonus data in a few days.

    • +1

I'm currently in the process from a Sim Only plan with 2 months to run. Early Termination fees are being waved

    • Guessing there’s a queue. I have been on chat hold for half an hour now. Only a few months into a 12 month contract so don’t like my chances.

      • Just a follow up to this, I was able to renew without a termination charge with no effort or arm twisting at all for two numbers. $39 20gb to $39 30gb.

    • Mine runs out in March. No termination charge here. I went from a $49 month plan (with $10 month discount) to a $49/month plan with the $10 discount.

I was informed that the $10 discount runs out at the end of the contract (meaning months 13+ are $49/month as opposed to the discounted $39/month).

  • My dude tells me once the contract term is up the bonus data and credit disappear

    • Set a reminder in your calendar around 15/10/19 to keep an eye out for a OzB deal just like this one. You can renew with a fresh contract with Telstra prior to this contract ending (without penalty).

      • the only penalty it seems is the difference between end of contract and start of new contract. The dude i'm signing up with basically told me i'm forfeiting the last 11 days of my current plan

    • That’s not true. got a similar deal last year discount and extra gigs continue.

    • The rep at JB told me when signing up that the credit and bonus data, although says it's only for 12 months, will stick around for the 'life of the plan' (as long as you don't change plans) unless Telstra push you off it, but it's likely it'll be grandfathered for a few years to come.

Don't sweat it. You are 99% going to retain your bonus data / credits after the 12-month contract is up.

  • Good deal for Telstra, but i'm still waiting for a BYO plan with international roaming (1gb or 2gb a month would do just fine).

    • +3

The $89 BYO plan (down to $79 with this $10 off offer) does include roaming

International roaming - 2GB data roaming and unlimited talk & text in eligible countries.

      And from the CIS: https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/personal/mobile-…

I f you have a $89 plan, it includes unlimited calls and SMS to standard fixed and mobile numbers, and a monthly International Roaming data allowance (in the table above), for use while in:
Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovak Rep, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, UAE, UK, USA, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Vietnam (Eligible Roaming Destinations).

      • Is this lte or 3g roaming data?

        • Whatever deal Telstra has with the carrier in that country - eg you will get LTE/4G in NZ while roaming with Telstra

          • @b3au: Awesome! did not notice that. Thank you!

  • Thanks OP, perfect timing.

  • +1

Can confirm it works, upgraded from 15g $39 to 35g $39. Existing customer still within 12 months of previous BYO plan. Upgraded with no extra charge and asked for the 5g extra data, applied no issues. Also got told and in writing the discounts and data continue until recontract.

    • Can you please post a snap of the chat where the rep says the discounts will continue past the end of contract - might have to use that as evidence in a years’ time! Thanks

  • -1

How do you get the Cashrewards to go through if you’re signing up via live chat? Has anyone been able to do this?
…I prefer to see all the details before signing up, otherwise the process could be to click through from CR, then Buy now, and jump onto live chat after, to see if they'll add the bonus 5GB data…

    • +1

      Cannot get

  • Managed to get $39 35gb data with peace of mind data and re-contracted which expired in 3 weeks.

    • My rep spoke to her supervisor who said he can only apply either the 5GB bonus, or else free peace of mind data, not both. And I was under a companion plan for some reason? All very bizarre.

      • Yeah mine has both included replacing my existing plan, I was really nice to the support lady haha maybe that helped I don't know but just treat them nicely and customer support reps tend to be more nicer (people should do it either way honestly)

    • I tried getting both, and the live chat person had no idea what they were even doing. They said if I wanted peace of mind data I needed to get the $49 plan (which doesn't even exist). Gave up and closed the chat.

  • Good deal for Telstra, thanks OP.

  • +1

i went into live chat at 4.30am and they gave me the xmas 5gb with no hesitation. the whole thing start to finish took literally 6 minutes. chat log saved of course… ive never had any problem with getting these extra bits of data from telstra on the live chat. thanks op for the deal, telstra deals dont come up too often!

  • I’m out of contract with Telstra, 2 mobiles & iPad. Unfortunately, no data share with Telstra on these new plans, so will probably try Optus.

  • Re contracted in August and got $39 a month for 20gb, chatted this morning and managed to get an extra 10gb added to my account. So now $39 a month for 30Gb. Tried getting peace of mind data but no dice.

  • +2

Why don’t you guys go for JBHIFI’s deal? $45 for 50GB isn’t it a better deal?

    • +1

      $1 = 1.11GB for JBHIFI
      $1 = 0.77GB for Telstra
Technically better from the "data" perspective but from a cost perspective, $6 a month over 12 months (minimum) is $72 and that's almost 2 months "worth" of the plan :) Since this is OzBargain, there would be people swinging both ways depending on data consumption I'd guess.

      • Cool thanks for that

    • Probably is better value, although $39 is a nice, psychological low value, especially for people who can't imagine ever getting through 30GB in a month, let alone 50.

Also, JB Hi-Fi deals usually require port-in from another carrier, whereas this deal (I believe) lets you move from Telstra Prepaid to the 12 month contract.

It's a significant difference for those who don't want to risk porting their number to a new carrier and/or the inconvenience of waiting.

(Technically, you should be away from Telstra for a least a month to be qualified for a port-in. In the past they haven't been strict, but some people have reported that now they run scans to check, with the consequence that your bonuses might be jeopardised.)

    • +1

It’s not a better deal if you’ll never get near using 30gb of data - then you’re just paying $6 a month extra for nothing.

      • What about the $200 GC ?

    • What put me off JB is the rigmorale last time i switched through them. I should have gone for it with the gift card but this way i know my phone will have no down time.

  • Just signed up for $49 for 65GB. ($20 discount on the $69 plan and then 5GB xmas bonus)
Went through Billing dpt on live chat

    • How did you get the $20 discount? Sorry if I've missed something obvious.

  • +3

Thanks OP, got to say it's great that Telstra are finally including existing customers in these deals.

  • Wish there was still JBHifi bonus for port in customers

  • Thanks! Was able to recontract $39 for 30gb and peace of mind, confirmed it will last until recontract.

  • +1

Excellent! Just hopped on live chat through the “Disconnections” department. Enquired about the 5GB Christmas Bonus Data and had it added within a few minutes.

    $29/m, POM, 50GB 😁

    • +3

      $29?!?!!

    • Bruh I'm on the same deal, however without the POM. Was this the $39 for 20GB deal back in August at JB Hi Fi?
How'd you get POM? I'd love to know man..

      • No this was from the $39/m, POM, 20GB BYO deal that was offered through Telstra a couple of months back. To get to where I am today required a lot (and I mean a lot) of live chats and calls to the retention centre. Persistence and patience paid off in the end I suppose :)

        • Ahh right, gotcha! - so you were on the Companion Plan from a while ago which had POM.

          https://imgur.com/a/tF0mZri

          Is it this one?
I'm on a similar one, it's the same inclusions but without POM, instead came with the $200 JB Hi-Fi gift card.

          Makes sense now.
I have tried time & time again to get Peace of Mind added on but they won't budge and now I think I found the reason why.
          Cheers for the clarification, Kewok!

Started off with $39 20GB and OzBargain brute-forced my way to $29 50GB. $0.58 per GB. Delicious.

  • If only they had a $29pm plan (with around say 5GB).

    • never mind, discovered Boost are much better value: $30pm gives 12Gb + 23Gb bonus or $40pm gives 22Gb + 23Gb bonus, and you're not locked in.

      • +1

OMG they must have updated their plans recently. $30pm gives you international call as well!

Technically 23GB bonus for first 5 recharge only though,

        • So in actual fact after you use your 5 recharges it's $30 for 12gb

      • Yeah I’m regional NSW and need Telstra retail network for service at some of my worksites. Recently switched from the $39 15GB Telstra to the Boost $30. Boost has data rollover too which is handy for the rare occasion I might need more data. Half price for the first month atm.

  • +1

Just letting you all know that it worked for me too, no dramas. Recontracted, added 20Gb to my monthly data allowance without changing what I currently pay.

  • Moved my wife and mine to this, managed to get 35GB (not that we needed the extra 5GB…).
Tried to use this to get a discount on a new ipad Pro, not a chance :P

  • Is there data sharing/data pooling included?

  • +1

Just signed up from existing telstra number (out of contract)
    $39 for 35gb (15+15+5 bonus)
Have confirmation from them that after 12 months, it will continue as is until recontracted
    i.e. $39 for 35GB

  • How come this deal is better than the $45 deal from JB ?

    • Wondering the same. Deal of JB-Hifi comes done to $25/wk for 50Gb if you fully use the gift-card

    • $45 is for new customers only.
This offer is for new and existing.

At the end of the day, two totally different offers.
Some OzB hunters look for lowest ongoing cost and some look for maximum data.

  • Chat experience was good. Listening to the product disclosure etc over the phone is a pain in the arse.

  • Thanks OP, now I can ditch my crap Optus wireless. Only 2 months into the $49 20GB JBHIFI plan that had the $400 voucher for a new phone, and they re-contracted for free to the $59 with 65GB and POM. Chat (Jhonna) was very helpful even though they were getting smashed and had to wait a while for the chat to start.

  • Can confirm 35gb w/ peace of mind for $39. Had to speak to two different reps though, as the first one said it wasn't possible.

    • +1

Same. Needed to speak to second rep too. Got it done in the end.

    • Yep I've just struck out on round 2 now, ha. First rep wouldn't offer me anything extra, second one has offered the extra 5GB but not PoM as "the order will not complete as the system will not allow it". Third time lucky? Edit: Nope. Told it was possible but was then told I'd have to pay almost $500 to end my current phone plan - first 2 were willing to waive the early termination charge and have me just pay out the ~$240 left on the phone.

  • I managed to get 37GB for $39 but no Peace of Mind.

    EDIT:

Managed to get the 35gb for $39 including Peace of Mind instead with someone else

  • Just recontracted my wife's service she got in the the end of June at JB $49 @25GB + $500 of Galaxy S9. Now $39 for 30GB. Not a bad deal.

  • Thanks to this deal, got my husband's service recontracted - 35GB for $39/month. Couldn't get the Peace of Mind Data, though.

  • Thanks Op! I just got Telstra to switch my $49 plan (with 20GB) to this $39 plan (With 30GB) that I just signed up to last month with no break fee. Win!

  • Was the plan change instant? I spoke with chat at 12:30am ish and I'm yet to get the plan change.

    • Both my plans are connected. Just waited for over 1h for it to transfer.

      • Finally just got the notifications that my plans has changed. Must have been because I ordered online through cash rewards.

    • I'm currently on the 40gigs unlimited for $69 a month so I can now get 90gigs for $79 unlimited???? Yes I'm currently on a 12 month contract with telsta

  • Thanks OP! Connected on the $39 plan with an extra 5gb on top of the 30gb.

  • I get the plan with live chat
but I have not receive a confirmation email from Telstra
Am I suppose to get an email?

  • The CashRewards cashback has doubled to $90 for the $49 Plan.

I re-contracted 2 phones to the $49 BYO plan (15gb+15gb bonus for $39) and received confirmation of $90 for both plans ($180 Total).

    • I'm pretty sure it is initially $90 but will go down to $45. I read it somewhere, I think it was on CR itself.

  • Thanks, OP!

Recontracted from my current $49/month-15GB 12mth plan (with 8 months to go) to the $39/month-30GB + an extra 5GB (a bonus just for me apparently :-) ).
No ETC as you don't need to pay out your contract when moving to another contract.
    Works for me.
There was a long delay (2+hours) in receiving the LiveChat transcript.
It can take a couple days to receive e-mail confirmation as well regarding the order.

    • Been over 3 hours since i finished the chat, still no transcript.. hopefully comes through soon because the last time I cancelled a service through live chat they tried to charge me $650 instead of $300ish for the disconnection, only got it waived because i had proof of what i was quoted, ha. Won't be surprised if they attempt something similar again as I've cancelled my phone plan early to get this plan.
